Ugh... I think his shows are entertaining but I wouldn't want to use them as proper reviews. I looked into POP:SoT because of his review, it was alright but the sequels sucked. I also bought the Orange Box based on his review. Good buy. Other then that, I take his opinions as more satire then review. Also, no one seems to realize that his reviews are given by a persona and not the actual person.

Why do people think Halo 3 should have a standalone plot? It's Halo 3. The third game in the trilogy. It's pretty obvious that it's gonna be picking up plot points from the previous two games.

Honestly, that's like watching Return of the Jedi and complaining that it didn't spend 20 minutes recapping everything that happened in the Empire Strikes Back.
Umm... Contradicting yourself much? Seriously, Return of the Jedi continues the overall story, but ALSO works great as a standalone title. Aparently, Halo 3 doesn't...

Anyway, he is not bashing the series, just that one installment/title/episode (choose what fits your state of fanboyism).
Now, I haven't played Halo 2 or 3, but I can't say I saw anything that great in Halo 1, so I haven't bothered with it.

As for Yahtzee's reviews, I find them hilarious, extremely entertaining and HIS PERSONAL OPINION! I don't let anyone tell me what to wear, eat or think, so I don't let anyone tell me what to like either. On the other hand, the games he's reviewed that I've actually played, he's been scarily right on my own opinion, except as others mentioned, Mirror's Edge. Great fun!
I disagree if people came into Star Wars at VI they'd be confused. Who's this guy they're rescuing, who's that ghosty guy, what's the deal with the weird talking muppet, WHAT IN GOD'S NAME ARE THOSE TEDDY BEARS! Oh wait...that's everyone's reaction to the ewoks =P

Please, stop making Yahtzee threads, like someone recently said, you're preaching to the converted. Talk about him on other sites, it will bring more people here.
Yes but do we want them here? Isnt our land polluted enough, were low on oxygen as it is.

Well I tend to take all reviews with a grain of salt as it is, but I don't really watch his reviews for an actual opinion, I watch them for the humor. I liked his older reviews anyway. The ones where he used actual songs for the intro and conclusion, that one aspect alone was part of the uniqueness and charm for me. (I know he can't do that anymore with the whole copyright issue, but that's just how I feel)

A few of his opinions are obviously biased being a PC gamer and all. But what are you gonna do? There were a couple things I felt that he was bashing just for the sake of bashing. The Darkness review was a little harsh, but I guess that's to be expected when reviewing a demo. I myself was very pleased with the final product. His opinion of Thief III was a little disappointing, but that's the beauty about having an opinion, I guess. I'm not gonna bash the guy for for disagreeing with me.

For the most part most of his comments are very true, ex: The Mako in Mass Effect handling like a fat man on a unicycle... genius.

... Flame on!!

I've learned never to disagree with him, for fear of people here attacking me with the intensity of ten suns.

I completely disagreed with him about The Wither, i thought that was a great game. But he has been pretty much bang on about everything else

So you mean you have to play the previus games to appreciate halo 3? How that's about as bad as MGS4.

Saints row 2. I knew no one could say anything about that game except for the minigames

Even with all the flaws he mentioned in Too Human, I still got enjoyment out of mercilessly beating the crap out of wave after wave of enemies. It's great when you can recognize how badly designed a game is and yet still get some enjoyment out of it.

EDIT: I'm seeing a lot of Halo rants. Sure, he's only REVIEWED two Halo games on this site, but who;s to say he hasn't played the others? (If he;s said so himself that he didn;t I'll graciously accept defeat)
In Halo 3, he said he hadn't played the other two Halo games, and I highlky doubt he played either since.
All righty then. Defeat admitted.

yeah! Where the hell did those bears come from?!? Cute though. Anyway, the point I was trying to make is that SW VI stands on it's own two feet storywise. Yes there are a few questions at the beginning, but nothing that would ruin the experience for first time viewers as the main plot of the film stands on it's own (in the usual OLD SW "Damn-this-is-entertaining-but-no-way-in-hell-we-can-take-it-seriously" kind of way).

He is payed to badmouth games. You can see from the popularity of certain reviews, that when he injects actual real venom into his comments on games then the viewing figures are a lot higher than say, if he praises a game.

As such, well hes taken to bad mouthing everything in sight regardless of likes or dislikes, which is showing. Meanwhile he invests the paycheck elsewhere.

Of course, this is my opinion alone. Please don't be offended.
He gets his best ratings on bad-mouthing games which have received widespread good reviews and yet are not enjoyed by gamers that much - Biosh*$k and GTA4 for example.
Except he said he really liked Bioshock?

I only disagreed with him on Mirror's edge. That was a fun game, flawed, but not the terrible game he painted.
A lot of his reviews are based upon his experience with the game, and it seems that he sucked at it from what he said about not being able to make jumps and climb over things...

I just found it easy to correct yourself if you jumped too early or too late, and that you can always use the reaction speed thing to look down and wait until your foot is right on the ledge to actually jump.

And some of his problems with the game are things I liked, such as the shortness, (refreshing, but not too much to get old) and I don't think he ever played the time trials.

That said, yeah. He's usually about 60-80% truthful about games.

I would hazard a guess and suggest that he is refering to 'so little' in terms of variety. From what I can remember, its pretty much all 'run and gun', with a few vehicle sections to break things up. The variety of locations is pretty varied, but gameplay? I don't want to get too deep here or the fanboys will come hunting for blood, but I can see why someone with a cynical point of view could see it as pretty shallow.

EDIT: And Indigo_Dingo gets there first by 1 minute :)
Just to add to that point a little, is it so wrong that he should expect a $60 game to have the same amount of content as other $60 games? He shouldn't have to pay over $150 just to get a single game's worth of enjoyment.

I tried the Sonic Game, and the controls were so awkward I couldn't even get past the tutorial. I haven't actually played most of the games he reviews.

After seeing the Painkiller review, I bought it and was glad to discover that he was more right than my own right hand. He's also influenced me to buy other games, such as Condemned, Saints Row 2 and Fallout 3.

Thank you for again aserting my belief that the people who hate Halo are the obnoxious people who randomly tell people who liked Halo that it sucks when their opinion is really unneeded but they continue to speak anyway for the sake of upsetting people and for the sake of bascially being assholes. An act I find to be on the same level of whoring.
And gee, only your eighth post and you've already flamed someone how cute.

Welcome to the Escapist.

(P.S to differentiate myself from being a fanboy I would like to point out that if you don't like Halo 3 I respect that, the road goes both ways. If I look down on you obnoxiously HATING Halo then I cannot obnoxiously force you to like Halo. I understand that. But having seen some of your prior posts I am going to assume you are in fact a PS3 fanboy and therefore this statement was less based on personal opinion and more on the desire to defend your system and the games therein by bashing everyone else)
