For total playtime? I have about 250 on just one of my Pokemon Black cartridges. It's the game I use to store bred, hacked, and general storage Pokemon on so I can trade them to other copies of Black, White, Black/White 2 etc. The more I think about it, I have quite the financial and time investment in just that one generation of Pokemon games. I wouldn't have it any other way of course. :D

I am sure the number is a lot smaller if we are talking about one games main story line. It's usually side quests and post game content that keep me playing one game for a while.

I hit the bug in Oblivion that supposedly occurs 200+ hours in that causes animations to freeze up. I think I put in around 240 saved hours into a single playthrough. I'm not sure why exactly I think it was more addictive than enjoyable.

I don't know the exact length of time I played it, but I already know the answer is Tales of Vesperia, no contest.

I had a campaign on Medieval 2 Total War that was around 350 hours. I play the total war games really slowly though.

It would either be Pokemon Red (the only game that I raise my Pokemon level to their highest which was 82) or Dragon Quest 9 mainly due to their weekly downloadable extra content which lasted a year.

My 100% run of Final Fantasy X HD remaster clocks in at about 126 hours. I think that's just over my first run of Persona 3 FES.

Edit: Oh shoot, forgot about pokemon games and all the breeding I did to make competitive teams. I'm going to go ahead and not count those since they just dwarf the more legitimate games so much in my opinion. That is, with pokemon breeding, I'm not playing in order to overcome something in the game itself, just other players.

Going with only single player games, and not including games where I artificially inflated the hours myself, I would have to say Kingdoms of Amalur. I have spent a little over 200 hours completing all of the story and side quests, and I just got the expansion, so I will have to add time to that as well.

If we want to talk any video game, Left 4 Dead 2, I have a bit over 2k hours on record (probably 300-400 on idle). If we count table tops, I had a game of 2nd edition that went on for over 3 years of saturdays (with the occasional sunday). I really have no idea how many hours that was but going by an average of 16 hours, 52 weeks a year, and 3 years, it hits a bit over 2.4k with very little idle time.

I think the longest I've spent on one character is over 300 hours on Oblivion, but otherwise I have no idea and can't be bothered to check.

I had a game of Rome Total war going back in the day that was probably the longest but since I'm not even sure if I have that save file anymore I don't know how long it took.

The longest games for me tend to be around 45-50 hours, and those are almost always JRPG's(which is about how long it takes me to be ready to take on the final dungeon and boss with a reasonable expectation of winning).

Not to mention that I'm usually ready to be done with a game long before I reach the 40 hour point, unless it has a particular gripping world or storyline.

I haven't played skyrim yet but it's hard to imagine myself playing the same game for 150 hours over and over again.

Guild Wars 2, ~3700 hours. As for the character with the most hours: my main mesmer with 947 hours. Have had too much spare time over the past years.

Runners up:

FFXII: ~1000 hours, longest single story run 220 hours.
Rome: Total War: probably somewhere close to FFXII
Skyrim: ~800 hours (quite a feat for a game I hate almost as much as I love it)

In Mass Effect, I have a save file that has around 200 hours saved on it.

Each of the main Pokemon games, I tend to clock in around 200 hours a piece.

527 hours on a game of X3 reunion. I spent a very large part of one of my high school summers playing that campaign, and I've gone back to it once every few months to log on more time ever since.

You know, I just realized I've been working on that file for the better part of 7 years now.

In the first game? In a single playthrough?

My god man, the main storyline takes about 10-20 hours tops. Everything else is driving the mako to the same 3 rooms over and over again. How the hell are you still sane?

In a single playthrough? The original Legend of Zelda re-released on the GBA. 300+ hours. No external maps used throughout as well as no prior knowledge of any tips, tricks, and/or strategies beforehand... To put this in perspective, I was close to turning 12 when I first bought and started playing this game and I was about to turn 13 when I finally did beat it for the first time...

In overall playtime? Outside of Pokemon (Emerald with over 600 hours before that game was stolen form me), that title goes to Tales of Symphonia with about 262 hours in one of my New Game+ playthroughs... Most of that time was served increasing my overall grade because I was already OP less than an hour into the game that time...

Good thing WoW doesn't count, because the hours would be silly.....

Off the top of my head, a couple games come to mind: FF VI and Star Ocean: Till the end of time. At least 150 hours on each, prolly closer to 200 for Star Ocean since I wanted to craft all their weapons and that damn 100 story building would piss me of by breaking my bonus chains. FF VI, I will always remember your little patch of forest full of instant-kill brontosaurus and meteor flinging t-rex. All in the name of Economizer and leveling up.

Legend of Dragoon was a long one too, easily over 100 hours spent on that. Ditto for secret of Evermore. FFXII surprised me by going over 100 as well, damn those stupid hunts and none-cooperating weather. As you can see, rpg's are my jam.

But for sheer overall hours in one campaign? Terraria....according to Steam, over 800 hours...oh wow, did I really spend that much time mining? Yes, yes I did. That's what happens when your girl looks at your square block of a house made of stone and stone wall and laughs at it. Now I need to mine all those sky islands and ake all those furniture..and wait what, there are new ones after that patch? In the dungeon you say? and new ore you say? Wait, and new PINK ore you say? Palladium ore was prolly the worst thing to happen to me....that and those blue furniture from the sky island, they're so pretty with the yellow accents and glass windows and banners....and those doors are so cute and inviting....
