Remake FFVI on the DS or 3DS. After that take a good look at the first 6 or 7 games and go back to what made them so great.

Wait, are you telling me 14 was as good as, say 1? I mean if you see things that way then we are going to have a hard time talking about this subject. I loved the earlier games but just because the first games were great doesn't give Square Enix the right to give us shit.

If a game goes to hell don't keep dragging its ass back out the grave. Thats how I see it.
If Square had stopped making final fantasy after the first bad game then we would only have two. The series like all others will have good games and bad games.
I agree with you. They should have stopped after 2. :D

No, unfortunately there have been WAY to many fuck ups for me to forgive them. Especially lately. Thats the point I was trying to make. They keep making bad games, so now theres no grace left. Which is sad because the original was really fun. Eight is sort of fun but other than that... No mas.
Final fantasy two

And what about the people that liked IX, X, XI, XII and XIII?
Yes there are plenty of Final Fantasies that are truly terrible but there are just as many that have a mixed response from the fan base.
I'd rather not think about them... Haha, jk. I just said what I'd do to the franchise.

Come to think about it, if I was given total control of square enix I would continue to churn out this kind of bullshit cuz thats apparently what people like nowadays. Because video games are a business not an art. I don't care what that guy on extra credits says. Games are opinion based, some people actually thought Homefront was good. (I like FPSs but that game was bad.)

Try to blame X-2 and up on Enix dropping the ball and go back to the roots. And by roots, I mean underground, buried. I'd announce X was the last true FF and that the series has become nothing more than a cash cow milked dry and let the series die peacefully. Then continue doing what Square and Enix did better by themselves than they ever did merged: make awesome original RPGs that even haters will cherish for eternity.

Bring in side quests that don't all get done by the completion of the story. I liked FFX because of the hidden Aeons, Dark Aeons, The Monster Arena, finding the celestial weapons, Blitzball Side Quest, Weapon Customizations, Omega Ruins and hidden bosses. It adds another 75 hours of game play for those who wish to carry on further than just defeating the Big Bad story Boss. And if you can defeat the monster arena, then the final story boss in terms of difficulty would be a fly on the windshield that was your party.

In depth customizations would be back in too, as you get a hell of a lot more game options than just; Level 42, Equipped: Ice Sword and Gold Armour.

Make it into a real godamned RPG. First things first, fire Tetsuya Nomura. He can not draw a human being with clothing that a human being would be caught wearing. If anyone suggest even a single anime trope, they will get thrown out of the window of the floor that they suggested it on.

I have often criticized the series after Tactics to have characters that nobody could identify with, or would want to. I speak of course of Cloud, Squall, TIDUS, Vann, Yuna, Lightning, and so on. That means remove all the whining, angsty pre teens and make the main character fully customizable by the player. This is an RPG, people! let us ****ing role play! The main character and entire game is a return to form, hell it's a remake of the first game. instead of turn based combat, it will be an action game with RPG equipment and stats elements reminiscent of Kingdom Hearts (about the only good thing that came out of that series if you ask me). random battles will be kicked out of the equation entirely. enemies will spawn on an open world, not divided by loading screens of any kind. the entire game, there will be six characters. they are a Fighter, a Black Mage, White Mage, Thief, Monk, and Red Mage. You will pick a single character and that will be your main character, the one that will make all primary decisions. This isn't to say that you can't control the others, you can change to them at any time, but your main character will appear in the front of the group in all cutscenes. Although, you can only have 3 people in combat, unable to change your party unless out of combat.

As with most competent RPGs, you will be able to change your appearance, but still keeping with the feel of the class that you're representing, similar to the designs in final fantasy XI. Also, color changing can be put in there too. You can interact with everyone in the world, buy property similar to fable 2, but you can only buy one house, or even build your own place anywhere in the world. you can form bonds with other npc's, but not by Fable's horrid interaction system. it will be a sort of mini dating sim, where the women aren't easily swayed by a bouquet of flowers when you first lay eyes on each other, and won't marry you as soon as you give them fifty roses, a box of chocolates, and a diamond earring. They will act like actual human beings and not the anime tentacle targets in final fantasies 7,8,9,10,10-2,12,13.

Combat like I said will be similar to the KH series. Jump button, light attack, ranged/heavy attack, and block. spells and special abilities will be performed using a shoulder button and a face button, making spellcasting much simpler. Perhaps a sprint button will be placed on the other trigger. The bumper buttons/L1 and R1, will be used to switch your control of each character. in the pause menu (which can be used in and outside of combat) you can change the character's battle tactics (a la Final Fantasy Tactics) and customize your spell/ability layout.

The plot will basically be the original final fantasy, with minor changes if necessary. The main warriors of light will have no personality, and it will be up to the player to decide who these people are. Multiplayer should only be a possibility, with drop in and out co-op, similar to Dead Rising 2.

Although, the more I think about this, the more I know that it's not even going to come close to happening. did you see the sales figures for final fantasy 13, one of the worst RPG's- no, I hesitate to call it an RPG. It's a "watch these unlikeable, unrelateable asshats talk to each other about crap you don't care about" game. yes, it's officially an anime now.

Id say get creative. Find out what worked with past games & what didnt like battle systems, leveling up systems, story content etc & work with that. Id love to see a FF7 & & remake with kick arse graphics of PS3 but made like FF12.
I would also love to see the modern FF's made into 16 bit graphics because I love the old school SNES games.

Id also like to see the old successful games like Chrono-trigger & Secret of Mana series get some decent sequels, if not remakes. But not to the point of over kill like FF.

Reduce the focus on cinematics, spend more of the budget on more essential areas.

Simplify the combat. ATB, maybe some action prompts (similar to Mario RPGs) and combination attacks between characters (like Chrono Trigger)

More emphasis on the environment--Not quite "open world", but certainly some minor exploration and a layout that looks less linear.

Simpler leveling system--allow players to choose between stats to add points into (don't really like the auto points in most FFs); don't have a system that looks like it needs a map.

Customization--Simpler doesn't mean you have to get rid of player options. Maybe something similar to materia that works better with pre-set classes? Different stat options for leveling characters. Different party members having clear advantages, none of them being clearly "best".

World map with pleanty of places to explore with the unlockable airship and chocobo. No random encounters. Minimize required grinding, focusing on strategies of the bosses instead.

So, basically, FF13, FF7, and Chrono Trigger thrown into a blender, and a few tricks borrowed from some non-Square RPGs.

Keep doing what they're doing now except stop trying to make MMOs. I was pretty happy with FFXIII, personally.
TG! I thought I was the only one! I did get stuck and stop playing though, but really, this was the return of FF from the dark days of X, X-2, XI and XII *shrudders*, those last two especially, with XII they went right off the tracks.

What would I change? Well I'd make the start make more sense, be shorter, have a more instantly gripping story hook that doesn't involve weird demons or whatever, bring back the evil corporations, or monarch's, or something big and powerful, that doesn't require an act of god to destroy. And maybe change a little bit of the battle system, it was slightly automatic.

If I was them I'd go back and look at why final fantasy 7 was so successful and go from there.

They are doing the right things with Dragon Quest, they really are. They need to take that richness in gameplay and put it in ff games rather than making a movie with interactive parts...

They need to seperate the genre into medieval/steampunk and cyberpunk. They have two totally different genres stuffed into one series of games. I want moogles chocobos and black and white mages but thier futuristic and serious style is also great.
