Looks like competitive Smash players get a lot of hate. These guys simply enjoy playing this way, and there's nothing wrong with that.

But then you realise the true spirit of the game is in the chaos of the stages and randomness of the items.

But in a competetive context, which this is, "cheap", "unfair", "bullshit" etc just don't exist. The type of player that restricts what they incorporate into their play is the type of player that will not get far in any competetive scenario. Even if something is truly infair, as in completely imbalanced, it's still not the players fault for using it because they enjoy trying to get as good as possible within the intended game mechanics, so they're just doing what they enjoy. In that case it's just a poorly designed game.
