That lawyer guy from that anime/ game who I really should know the name of. You know, the guy who shouts "OBJECTION!" all the time.
You're gonna have to narrow that down. There are several people in that game series who shout objection all the time. Are you looking for Phoenix Wright?

i...
i have no idea. blank flank for me :'(
...
......

although, i like acquiring knowledge of all sorts, and spend quite some time searching the intarwebbz and libraries (nothing beats the smell of paper and the reverent silence in libraries, does it?) for stuff that interests me.
so maybe an open book and old-school glasses? i like the idea of a scholar in a rather traditional, "romanticised" way ^^

I'd go with something camping related, like a camp fire. or a tent. I love the outdoors and camping is great.

Or can I have a meta-mark and have Rainbow Dash as my cutie mark since I love going really fast too?

Stylized Asian cherry blossoms- to represent an interest in flowers, and an over obession with Japanese animation.

A crossed set of drumsticks set inside the outline of a snare drum. Because percussion is my life.
What the hell, man, this was the first thing that popped into my mind when I read the first post! What am I supposed to do now? ;_;
What say we make a compromise? I'll change mine to a miniature marimba (my favorite percussion instrument) and you can have the snare drum & sticks.

What say you?

or perhaps a pen with an inkblot.

Drawing, sketching, overall illustration.

I would have either an atom, because I like high energy physics, or the letters "EM" for electromagnetism. I'd definitely like to be a unicorn as well; It would help with multitasking in a lab.

I'm shocked by the lack of haters in the thread. Bronies forever!
Brohoof!
Incidentially, a brohoof cutie mark would be great. People'd have to touch my butt everytime they saw me! No wait, that sounds rather gross.

I'd much rather have two gearwheels or something since we can't go much further into robotics than that.

I'm somewhat similar to orangeapples in that I have a diverse range of interests, few (if any) of which I truly excel at, but I'm actually thinking my cutie mark, rather than being a jack as Mackheath suggested, it would more likely be some inherently positive symbol (perhaps even a Starfleet symbol, given that in addition to being an optimist, at least a third of my personality consists of pure unrefined Star Trek) that is in some way "under construction" (perhaps by way of the top part of the symbol being missing, with a few tetris blocks hovering above it and falling into place), symbolising both that I tend to do a little in a lot of areas (leaving many things unfinished) AND the fact that I'm going into engineering at the same time.

Over-complex, I know, but trying to find a less convoluted symbol that truly represents me has done little more than give me a headache. Again, it's not a jack, because while I have a tendency to achieve decent results in everything instead of excellent results in just that special something, I'm actually NOT a jack-of-all-trades at heart...

EDIT: Funnily enough, I find I have a much easier time figuring out what the cutie marks of ponyfied fictional characters might be:

Hype (from Hype: The Time Quest): A shield in the colours and bearing the symbol of Taskan IV.

Sparkster (Rocket Knight Adventures franchise): A rocket engine with a sword's blade instead of a nosecone.

Boggy B the heavily-armed worm: His signature weapons (the bazooka and the shotgun) crossed, perhaps with a stick of dyamite sitting between them like the axe in this image:

http://www.medieval-life-and-times.info/images/weapons-of-middle-ages.jpg

James T. Kirk: A single warp nacelle flaring as it prepares to make the jump to warp speeds (note that Kirk would be a special case, with the nacelle appearing first as his penchant for space exploration is revealed, and the flary glow around it only appearing later once he grows out of his, "Serious!? I was downright grim!" (Source: The episode "Shore Leave") phase from Starfleet Academy and becomes the man we know from the TV series).

Montgomery Scott: A warp core shaped like a whiskey bottle.

Spock: The Vulcan "IDIC" (Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations) symbol that rather than the triangle being silver and the circle behind it gold as is usual, is instead spit right down the middle, with the silver on one half and the gold on the other.

My first choice would be a computer screen (as that's what I spend the vast majority of my day staring at, between work and home) but since Equestria doesn't have computers, I suppose my second choice would be crosshairs (as I'm a rather good shot).

Quick question... what do you do in biological chemistry?

MSc in Chemical Biology here... which means a lot of protein dynamics, biomimicry, chemistry of biological molecules etc. Though admittedly, my research was in chemical ecology.

Well, I'm a Computer Science major, but I'm not particularly good at it...

Probably gonna go with some kind of symbol for knowledge. Put up a pic later.

Alright, I'll bite. What does it reference too?
A stupid thing by a friend of a webcomic artist that sort of spiralled into a small meme.

The greatest fanpony of all time, basically.
Is that a reference to Sodomuffin? And would the webcomic artist be David Willis by any chance?
Ding ding ding. Correct. You have won: nothing you have won nothing but well done anyway thanks for playing

I would have thought someone would get it earlier, I straight out SAID Sodomuffin earlier in the thread.
I guess not a lot of people read his comics. Which is a shame.

I've been asked like twelve times. I can't figure it out -.-
As it turns out it's really hard to come up with a picture that accurately represents software engineering. I guess it would be a {} or something, I don't know ...
Probably a few lines of code, maybe something like:

10 PRINT "HELLO WORLD"
20 GOTO 10
... eh

Whenever something like this comes up on any forum someone suggests some bit of code, like a hello world or a shebang or something. I just don't like that. Nopony walks around with text written on their flank :p

I'm thinking something that maybe represents my personal style or drive for code, but doesn't actually have anything to do with the code itself. Like, in the show, the school teacher, Cheerilee, has flowers with smiley faces on them, instead of the obvious chalkboard or whatever, and she explains that they represent happy students or something. If I go for something a bit like that, something symbolic, then I can get away from just text. Also, a hello world to me implies some Microsoft code monkey who throws shit together in Visual Basic, and when it works it's considered `good enough'. I'm not that kind of person. That kind of person translates logic into computer code for a living. I design program and subprogram structures. I am an artist, not a monkey. I think mine should reflect that.

And yes, I'm taking this way more seriously than I should, because I am mega nerd master about these things :p I took the whole `what do you see in the mirror of eresed' question way too seriously a few years ago too. Still haven't answered that one.

Been thinking on this for a while and I think I have one but at the same time it lacks something.
It's the best I have though so here it is.

A prism with a gust of wind going into it and a rainbow breeze out of it.
There is a few factors in this one.

1: Color, I love it.
a: It is used in visual arts which are important to me.
b: It represents many concepts and emotions and is important when describing things.

That alone would be fairly typical so to make it my own I was thinking of

2: Wind. Also, something I love.
a: It's wonderful, empowering, and freeing to just stand amidst the winds.
b: Calm breeze. Serenity, peace, all that jazz. Conflict isn't cool.

There is more to it then that but I'll leave you with the basics because not only is the rest a fair stretch, it's just all hard for me to coherently explain.
