I have a real soft soft for Hovhaness' 46th symphony, it kept me sane on a 24hr flight to New Zealand a few years back.

But can I find the bastard thing anywhere? Nope, not a hope in hell!!

Jeremy Soule counts?

If not, the dude that composed Diablo 2 music.
Yeah, this this!

Jeremy Soule is awesome, if only for the TA soundtrack alone.

And if he doesn't count, I've always had a fondness for Vivaldi.

Didn't Jeremy Soule do the morrowind soundtrack? Truly excellent!

Sadly, I'm not sure I've listened too closely to any one composer to give an unambiguous answer. Considering my father's a huge Baroque/Classical/Romantic/etc. music buff, my listening has been extremely eclectic.

That said, for symphonic music, I'd give props to and Stravinsky (for Petrushka and Rite of Spring), Holst (for The Planets), and Mussorgsky (for Night on Bald Mountain and Pictures at an Exhibition).

For soundtracks, no question: Nobuo Uematsu and Matoi Sakuraba. If I could repeat any day of my life, I'd repeat the day I saw the Dear Friends: Music from Final Fantasy concert... and I'd pay a year's worth of paychecks to watch a Baten Kaitos or Tales series concert.

This should've been a poll
Too many possible answers for a poll. There'd be no way to narrow it down to seven people, and it would discourage multiple answers.

He's done quite a lot, including elder scrolls 3 and 4, as you said.

Nobuo Uematsu, Antonion Vivaldi, and J.S. Bach.

Particularly the last one being a cellist, myself =)

I really like Clint Mansell, I like how his rock days from Pop will eat itself still has influence in his music, like a cross of rock and classical or romantic id say. As for old composers, Bach ftw.

Hans Zimmer; each score he's ever done is pure gold. Dramatic, epic gold. My favourite scores by him are Dead Man's Chest, The Prince of Egypt, Spirit - Stallion of the Cimarron, Gladiator, Angels & Demons and Black Hawk Down.

John Murphy is also excellent; he leans less toward traditional instrumentation and more towards rock/techno. He's don most of Danny Boyle's films, as well as the main themes for snatch and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels.
