Pokémon Yellow.

I was about 2-3.
It was awesome.
I don't know how you'd play Pokémon while you were 3 years old, but that's pretty awesome.

Pokémon Red was one of my first.

I'd have to say Runescape was my first taste of RPG but, the game that really got me into them was Oblivion.
I would have forgotten about Runescape if not for your post. I used to play that game all the time, although it was a couple years after I played Pokémon.

If Legend of Zelda counts then that but otherwise its Dragon Warrior.
Apparently I have a shitty memory for RPG's I've played. Dragon Warrior was one of my favourite NES games. Absolutely fantastic. And the music! Holy shit, the music, some of my favourite video game music to this day.

My first RPG was Diablo 2. A great game but there is only one problem with starting with a good RPG, I can't play any RPG that isn't comparable to Diablo 2.
Diablo 2 is probably second to Pokémon for RPG's I've been playing the longest. Lord of Destruction is probably one of the best expansion packs ever made - it expanded the game to unbelievable proportions. Shit, now I want to hop back on my hammerdin, or my auradin, or bowzon, or WW barbarian, or ... I'll stop now.

The RPG that got the biggest 'holy mother of fuck' reaction out of me was probably Diablo. Pokémon's amazing and all, but try not to shit a brick when you open a door and hear 'AHH, FRESH MEAT!'

Baldur's Gate 1.
Followed by Bg2, followed by ToB, followed by Planescape Torment, followed by NWN.
Loved the BG, and Torment was cool. My very first had to have been the NES version of Willow. Still, Minsc and Boo Forever!

This thread somehow manages to make me feel both really old and really young at the same time. What with peeps going on about mega old crappy turn based ones and then other folks citing games that only came out a couple of years ago.

I think my first RPG was Baldurs Gate, a truly fantastic game. I have played every bioware RPG since and loved them all.

My first RPG as well. And I was about 10-11. And while it was good, Red was better.

Thank god I'm not the only old school RPGer around here. Mine was Dragon Warrior on the NES as well.

Mine was Diablo 1. I was scared shitless from it, still loved it.

Good luck finding them, you can count them with 2 hands. Let's hope D3 will do it (who am I kidding, D3 can't possibly beat the expectations).

My first RPG was also one of my two first games: Pokemon Blue. That was a heck of a game. And I won't argue that it's better than the later generations, but I must say that some of the sprites are still awesome. Mewtwo used to look really, really creepy.

Can't recall...I'm positive I played a few before this, but the one that springs to mind from my childhood is Planescape: Torment. No matter how many times I play through it, I can't fucking get enough. The writing is brilliant, characters are likable, and the Planescape universe is incredible.

Jesus, this thread just made me feel old. My first RPG was The Bard's Tale. No, not the 2004 PS2 version but the 1985 PC version. I played it a crazy amount. Nothing like busting out the horn of blasting in a room full of 99 groups of 99 berserkers then finding something to do for 10 minutes as it scrolls all the combat text involved. Ahhh....many great memories.

What do you mean REAL? I understand it in the context of the piss easy Pokemon games, but FF7 was as much an RPG as any. FUCKING GOD DAMN ____ WEAPONS!
