Whats that one thing that will instantly get you interested in a game? The thing which makes you buy games just for having them?

Mine is a good zombie enemy. Flood in halo, zerg in starcraft, scourge in WoW. I love me some zombie menace :D.
Zombies are the most overrated nerdy thing in the nerdverse and I'm sick of zombie fanboys. Not saying you are one, and to each their own, but I just can't stand them.

OT: Space. I have always been fascinated with the universe and all it's infinite mysteries, so any game that has any amount of space exploration always really interests me.
It's hard to describe, but I enjoy the potential of a inhuman, in-moral, near unstoppable force with the sole objective of ending life on a planet. Yes, I'm a weird person, and I'm also saddened whenever the apocalyptic force is stopped.

Scary dungeons. The reason I never finished Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, and a few other unnamed. I have to gather a lot of courage to get through scary dungeons.

Or difficulty. I'm a pussy.
I've never played those games, but this for me too. I'm terrible at scary dungeons. Much more so in first-person games.

fast paced.

Don't care what genre, if it's a slow game I'm probably not going to be able to get into it.

AC was neither good nor stealth, and they punish you more than say, Splinter Cell.

i consider it stealth because the key is to stay hidden if you don't want to run in a slash your way through guards with no point to it at all. the aspect of hiding in a crowd of people to get to where you want to be. and holding on a roof edge and waiting for a guard to walk up before you take him out quietly so you can sneak up on the guard not looking and taking him out with a hidden blade. having a open world also works well so there's more than one way to complete an objective. to me that's stealth.

I like progressing through the game to make my character stronger, whether it be through multiplayer unlocks or RPG elements.

A hybrid (I think I spelt that wrong) consisting of 1st-person elements, and blend it with another genre.

The reason why I love Sanctum, King's Field, and Penumbra.

Sonic. I know that most of his games either sucked or aren't on consoles I own, but I at least like to play the games and form my own opinions. And, hell, all the ones I've played so far were pretty good. Aside from that, I just like to see either new ground being trodden in gaming, or old ground being put together well (e.g. Mario Galaxy or Super Meat Boy.)

I'd have to say, a dark, deppressing atmosphere. I loved Bioshock, and Stalker. But sometimes I'll get games like Myst or Amnesia, just because they have this really cool world that sorta creeps you out, but I never finish them.
I have to agree with Myst and Amnesia, an ominous atmosphere really grabs me.

Monster raising/collecting. It's a big reason why Pokemon and Shin Megami Tensei are my two favorite RPG franchises. Related to that, I also am inclined to buy a game that has well designed creatures and monsters even if I can't collect/train them. I love creatures of all kinds and trying to figure out how they function and interact with each other and with the game's world. They can be interpretations of mythology, the weird biology of another world, supernatural horrors, or just plain adorable pets. I love them all.

I also like RPG elements that allow me to choose what my character specializes in, whether it's via skill trees or some other method.

Fun co-op makes me way more likely to buy a game as well, since there's a couple people I play games with regularly and we all prefer co-op over pvp.

Pretty backrounds/environments... that gets me a lot.
Even if I game is utter crap, I can appreciate the environments if they're nice enough.

Anything based on or heavily influenced by ancient mythologies: Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Chinese, Japanese, Norse, Medieval Europe, Native American, etc. You name it, I'm there.
