You could say I've grown to hate some of the female characters from Sara Douglass' books.

A few of them are basically masochistic and then wonder why their lives end up a complete mess others need to save them from. These gals don't just get captured by the enemy and then spend their time twiddling their thumbs waiting for the hero to save them, they'll go to their evil fortress themselves because they feel fate is forcing them due to... reasons... and then spend their time twiddling their thumbs waiting for the hero to save them whilst bemoaning this harsh cruel world demanding their sacrifice.

This one gal gets raped in one of the books, no romantic rape although there's mind control at work. And she's somewhat traumatized by the event. She feels nobody understands her until one day her rapist is captured, a known manipulative bastard who'll use anyone to his ends. What does she do? She visits him and hooks up with him because she somehow feels she has no other choice and then spends the rest of her time being decidedly unhappy together with her rapist until she's killed viciously as a result of her rapist's manipulations finally getting back to him.

Why the hell is she doing that? Why the hell would you ever hook up with a guy you know has raped you, manipulated you and cares only about himself whilst you feel absolutely nothing for said guy!? Why?

Then there's this other gal who at the end of a first series gets captured, mostly due to going off alone with someone she knows is a traitor and knows is out to capture her. Mistakes happen right? Nope, she does the exact same freaking in a second series in the exact same freaking way (she's even having flashback of the first time). And then she goes on bemoaning her lot in life and how she always has to sacrifice so much. All because she feels fate is somehow forcing her...

They're like two masochistic damsels in distress who lack the mental capacity to realize that the only person who constantly keeps turning their lives into disasters they need to be saved from is themselves.

Catelyn Tully from A Song of Ice and Fire. Her chapters were just so damn boring and it was impossible to care about her- it seemed like all she did was whine and act like an asshole to the characters I actually liked (Jon, Tyrion).
Although she's not as bad as the pricks that got introduced in the fourth book.

I too would like an explanation as to why she falls victim to your hate. I know the character and have seen the first season, and I would just like to know your take on her (which is apparently negative).

Given i never watched the new avatar series, and have heard some...mixed things about it, do you mind explaining a bit? If you have to use a spoiler tag that's fine but I'm a bit curious about just what the hell happened.

Other than hating the utterly stupid love triangle in the show, I honestly thought she was a good, endearing character that I enjoyed.

I don't hate her as much as I hate how events conveniently happened around her while she made one stupid decision after another. For someone 4-5 years older than Aang she is extremely dense, constantly got her ass handed to her despite having mastery of 3 elements and constantly does dumb shit that would make a jaded Aang /facepalm.
Yeah it was part of her character to act impulsively and fuck-up a LOT, but it didn't make her any more likeable. She and most other characters in the show were very one-dimensional, unable to act on a human or logical level and throwing around random emotions. Mako for example, saying he loves Asami but in the last minute he switched back to Korra like a switch.
Angsty teens who can't make up their minds about anything I suppose, am I allowed to hate angsty clueless teens? That's what this show seemed to be about. All the immensely loveable & deep characters from the original series, along with all the subtle pacing, etc got thrown out the window for something that is extremely rushed and forgettable. I don't even remember the names of most characters from Legend of Korra.

All the light-hearted joyous humor was also gone, seriously who can replace Sokka? Bolin + Pabu? Not even close.

And let me explain what happened in exactly 15 minutes in the last episode of the season:

Korra: Boohoo.
Aang: Yo.
Korra: Aang! Sup.
Aang: Gratz on randomly unlocking airbending earlier. It made no sense and I have no idea how that happened, but it conveniently means you can talk to me now.
Korra: Huh? Cool.
Aang: I think you lost the rest your bending somewhere, here have it back.
Korra: Sweet.
Aang: And here's full mastery over the avatar state even though this is your first time connecting with the spiritual side, you'll be able to transition in and out of it at will. Took me a LONG time to master this!
Korra: Neat-o.
Aang: Also here's the ability to energybend...
Korra: Whatever, thanks.
Aang: ...and here's the ability to use energybending to restore people who may have lost their bending.
Korra: Convenient, I know a whole bunch of people who need that!
Aang: Nice. Anything else wrong with the story?
Korra: Nope that's pretty much everything.
Aang: What about the bad guys?
Korra: Oh they killed themselves. I didn't even need to do anything.
*Aang ruffles Korra's hair*
Aang: Good. Try not to make any more oopsies okay? Otherwise I'll have to waste another 30 seconds of my wonderful spirit life fixing everything that was wrong with the plot. Run along now.

Now, I really don't want you to take this the wrong way, but your explanation is pretty poor. Not because I believe you are wrong but because you say a lot of things but never explain them. You say that events conveniently happen around Korra as she constantly makes poor decisions. Can you elaborate on which decisions she made were comparable to decisions Aang made and demonstrate how Korra is worse? Because Aang made some real idiot decisions in his time. Some of his actions were far more moronic than anything Korra ever did.

You also complain about how Korra, who has mastered 3 elements, is an ineffective fighter compared to Aang. Again you seem to be comparing season 3 Aang with season 1 Korra. Korra may be an expert bender, but she has very little combat experience. She knows how to bend, but not how to fight. To make a real world comparison, expert marksmanship is not all you need to be a soldier. It was the same with Aang. Remember, season 1 Aang was so inept at fighting that he was captured by 3 archers. These were not experts at taking down benders, they had not special anti-bender training or equipment. Just 3 random but skilled archers. And he was an expert air bender. All he had to do was bend up a wind shield and their attacks would have been useless, but he was inexperienced and panicked at the first sign of an enemy.

From the comments you did make, all I get is "I hate Korra because she is not Aang." Specifically, season 3 Aang. You say that Aang is wiser. Of course he is, he has had many important life shaping experiences over the course of the first series. He changed. At first he was a foolish boy who ran from his responsibilities, placed innocents in danger for cheap thrills and was more concerned with riding penguins than saving the world. Over time he experienced life and became wise. This is called a character arc.

Korra is likewise going through a character arc. She is not yet as wise or as powerful as season 3 Aang, which is exactly as it should be. She does not yet have the power or wisdom of a fully realized avatar. If she had started at that level, there would be next to no opportunity for character growth.

As for the rest of the characters, I can sum it up as follows:

The core groups are pretty much equal for me. I dislike like Katara more than Mako, Korra is every bit as good as Aang was during season 1 (probably better.) Bolin is not as good as Sokka, but he is certainly a good character. Asami is ok but largely uninteresting. Korra season 1 had much better villains than Aang season 1. Tenzin and his family (except his son) are great and I like Lin Beifong a lot, but Korra lacks any characters as interesting as Zuko and Iroh, which in my opinion was the best thing in all of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Overall, Korra season 1 is significantly better than Aang season 1, but not as good as Aang season 2 or 3.

Korra is a bender who has been trained to fight other benders and conditioned to see people who can't bend as no threat. Her opponents are non-benders who have trained extensively and exclusively in how to fight benders utilizing methods she has never had the opportunity to come across.

For me it's Cersei Lannister from A Song of Ice and Fire. God damn I have never wanted to reach into a book and strangle someone before. Also her son Joffrey, he is a horrible git and that's putting it mildly.

Joffrey is the only time I have ever wanted to see a 13 year old get decapitated. That says it all.

No, he wasn't. He bitched and moaned about everything, never went out to hunt or gather supplies, was a severe asshole to everyone, tried to kill Lee on purpose, and his behavior even led to his own death.

Bitching, acting like an asshole for no real reason, trying to blatantly kill others in the group, and refusing to really work with others, sounds like a selfish asshole - who doesn't care about anyone else; not even his daughter. It sounds more like he was just using her 'leader' position as leverage to get what he wanted or more of what everyone else had to ration out and/or wait for; not someone who is truly trying to survive and keep their loved one safe. I can understand someone being a bit rough and hardened, especially in that world, but this was not that.

Part of me feels like they really over-did it with the character of Larry. He was an asshole right up until he died. Nothing made him more relatable or even remotely likeable to me....I wanted him to live for Lilly's sake, but I was happy when he died. There I said it.

I've never seen any good reason to see the show (FYI I really hate the designs, they're just too childish and bubbly for what I've gathered is supposed to be a serious story, it's about the same for One Piece). So please give me another reason to stay as far away as I can

Wait wait wait, don't get the wrong idea. Compared to most cartoons/anime Legend of Korra isn't by any means bad. Yeah the main character is a bit of a tool but overall it's still alright.

More importantly, you absolutely absolutely HAVE to see the series before this called Avatar: The Legend of Aang (also called Avatar: The Last Airbender) because it's quite possibly one of the best cartoons in existence. I would put it over stuff like One Piece (huge fan btw) any day...but that's just my opinion
Sorry it doesn't have any gore/swearing/serious themes because it's mostly a light-hearted cartoon but I it still approaches perfection in terms of characters, story, action scenes, etc. And it's only got ~60 total episodes as opposed to anime which have HUNDREDS + fillers.

yeah, I've tried to watch it once before and while I enjoy light-hearted anime, this just didn't feel like it was any good to me, it was like Americans trying to get the feel for anime but failing, just like what Teen Titans is - its style may be similar but the acting and the story do not flow for me

Glad you reminded me, as Peter and Quagmire definitly go on my list as well. Peter for the way he treats his daughter and most people around him, and Quagmire for being a collosal hippocrit (all the things he runs Brian down for are things he's done to an EVEN WORSE SCALE. The man kept sex slaves for god's sake...).

but Peter and Quagmire were played lightheartedly and in most cases tried to make up for the bad that they've done, even if it doesn't always go right, but Lois, she understands what she does is bad, in some cases lives in denial (for instance her brother being a murderer)and has had numerous affairs and at one point harbored murderous thoughts just because Stewie got a little clingy, yeah, she's as far from a saint as a demon could be

The entire cast of Sonic the Hedgehog side characters. I know, Tails, knucles and Shadow are, at the very least, fun and well designed characters, but damn... Everyone else just looks like a bunch of technicollor fan characters shoehorned into the story for the sake of WE MUST SELL MORE ACTION FIGURES! It's not that having a diverse cast is anything bad, look at the old 90s sonic cartoons (the good gritty one, not the ren and stimpy knockoff), but everyone else is just so uninteresting gleeful and dull that they just sort of combine into this irritable mess of squeaky voiced blob.

Speaking of which, I've garnered a genuine dislike of pretty much all Anime that follow the "moe blob", insert prety much everything made in the 2ks. I love anime like Fist of the North Star, Hellsing, Dragon Ball, Grave of the Fireflies, chihiro, etc, where are all the cool characters, interesting worlds and set pieces, likeable villains? Nowadays it's all about highschool drama and slice of life and whatever, and that's just so, yeesh. Even the new Saint Seiya Anime fell for this crap, it's pretty much pokemon meets high school melodrama. Come the hell on! I wanted to watch saint seiya with the bloody battles and ellaborate armors, they gave us these boring looking armors and bastardized the whole dynamic with this stupid element dynamic that you see on card games. Just... no.

I actually liked both Lori and Michonne. I have no idea why. I'm in total agreement with your appraisal of Lori's actions and Michonne's dimensionality (it's a word), but I still like them.

I don't hate any characters, I like every character (except for the ones you're supposed to hate, like Joffery, Cercei, Dolores Umbridge, et al). Give me any character you hate because of terrible writing and there's a good chance that I'll like them. I think my parents dropped me too many times as a baby.

Most hated - Garrosh 'F***ing' Hellscream, from world of warcraft series.

I cannot begin to discribe how much I hate this character, from the very beginning when he appeared in the story of the game, he started of as this whiny little *****.

Garrosh is the son of famed orc warrior Grom Hellscream, who was Thralls best friend, and who sacrificed himself to kill the demon mannaroth, and free the orcs from the blood curse that inflicted there race.

Groms legacy should have ended there, with that noble sacrifice, but instead the developers decides to carry on his legacy with his son, the then uncorrupted brown skinned orc Garrosh, who according to lore, when the orcs first were manipulated by the burning legion, Garrosh was so weak and sickly a character, he was constantly being nursed by Thralls own grandsmother, Greatmother Geyah, and who spent most of his life crying into a fire because of the dishonor Groms demon meddling brought upon the orcs.

When Thrall found him, and told him about how his father saved the orcs with his sacrifice, this instantly sparked Garrosh into full on chest pounding warhammer orc mode, and from then on, this character has done every dick move and asshole tactic you can think of.

- He first off mocks and questions Thralls leadership as warchief as being weak, despite the fact when you first meet Garrosh in nagrand, he is doing NOTHING to help save his own clansmen from the ogres that constantly attack.
- He backmouths Saurfang, a far more exprience, wiser and older warrior then him, about valor, when Saurfang tries to show him some level of wisdom.
- He arranges for his troops to backstab the alliance at the frozen front when the fight was brought to the lich king, which resulted in both sides dying, and being raised as undead.
- He gets called a 'hero' in northrend, when he did nothing to show for it, all he did was stand in the front entrance of icecrown citadel, well characters like Saurfang and Varian worked there way into the citadel.
- On return from northrend, he see's a sinking alliance ship and drowning human sailors, and takes the moment to jump them and kill them, even when they are waving a flag of peace.
- He kills Cairne Bloodhoof, the leader of the tauren, since Cairne was the only one with the balls to stand up to Garrosh and what he was doing. Garrosh takes the offer of help from Cairnes arch rival Magatha, and after she poisons the blade, Garrosh kills Cairne.
- He regards all other none orc races in the horde as scum, including calling this right to vol'jins face.
- He becomes warchief, given to him by Thrall, in one of dumbest moves in the franchise, because he does nothing but bring strife to the horde and make all the other horde races hate Garrosh for it.
- He kills one of his own generals who uses a mana bomb on a night elf school, claiming it was dishonorable, only for him to repeat the act with a superweapon, stealing the focusing iris from the blue dragonflight, turning it into a mana bomb, and using it to destroy Theramore, attempting to kill Jaina Proudmoore, Thralls once friend, despite her attempts to try and make peace with the horde.
- He searches across pandaria for items of power he can use in his war against the alliance, from kidnapping to stealing to murder, he uses every dirty tactic to try and obtain more power, and spits in the facs of every other none orc.

He is a **** in every aspect you can imagine. He's made Groms noble sacrifice meaningless, because he's not only done all this, but he's alienated the orcs from the rest of the horde, convincing them that orcish rule is all that matters.

However, he is set to be a final boss in the last patch of mists of pandaria, and I am going to enjoy every single killing blow I make against him.

Oh yes, I am a horde player to, have loved orcs in warcraft since I began playing. And yet all thuis crap has caused me to regret playing as an orc. THATS how much I hate Garrosh.
