Your Most Hated Interpretation of A Character you like?

I'm just... I can't. There are no words to describe how much everyone knows how badly this character was screwed up.

I hated everything about him from his stupid voice (I hate Dave Franco's voice) to his general, unoriginal design (though I'm admittedly a sucker for gaps in the teeth) and the fact that he's even more of a wuss than usual. Then again, I was probably spoiled by Arkham-verse Riddler so all the other ones just sort of... fall flat. Dishonourable mention goes to Robert Englund's version in "The Batman". WAY too Marilyn Manson-ish. "I'M SO GOFFICK" psht, whatever.

I also want to mention Tim Burton's Mad Hatter. I just... couldn't stand him. Granted, I can't stand that entire interpretation in general but at LEAST it had SOME style over... substance, I guess. I just hated Johnny Depp in that movie with a new level of burning passion. I was disappointed in that entire endeavour but the Mad Hatter earns special points for being ESPECIALLY awful, followed closely by the Dormouse. Then Alice.

And then, of course, there's the obligatory "I hate AUs and fan-interpretations because I'm a terrible person and I don't like your OTP because it's stupid" comment. I hate a lot of fan interpretations, really

They also seem to have got 'firm but fair' confused with 'miserable arsehole', just having him treat everyone he meets like shit for no real reason. I know Stannis isn't exactly supposed to be likeable, his lack of charisma is one of his defining traits, but the other one is his strong sense of honour and justice. Having Melisandre need to talk him out of killing Davos is just something that would never happen in the books.
Yeah, I wasn't best pleased with that scene, either. I hope they show us Stannis' huge gratitude to Davos for "reminding him of his duty" in the next series.

He'll be getting some more love among show-watchers now, at least, that they've seen him save the Night's Watch, and made clear that Jon sees him as the true King, too.

I also think that show Cercei is extremely different. I thought she was a far... stronger? more layered, more interesting character in the books. In the show she just seems a lot more petulant, but then a lot of that has to do with the extra plot threads they gave her in the show.
You might be right. Admittedly, I notice it more with characters I like than characters I don't, which might not be fair.

EDIT: Oh! I have another nomination. The New-52 interpretation of Amanda Waller. She's not supposed to be another tiny-waist, huge-bust supermodel! She was compelling and strong enough as she was!

call me a fanboy of the old Dante or don't but the new dante from DMC was just stupid. He was what "cool" is to pre-teen girls. Not to mention how stupid he looked.

Predictable choice, but Donte from DmC.

I've never had such a loved character get raped so hard by the writer's pen. Not in recent memory, anyway.

I've always hated this interpretation of Samus. I knew exactly what was going to happen to the franchise as soon as I saw this. There will never be another great Metroid like Super Metroid now that the focus has shifted.
You can easily make that argument about Other M, but seriously? The Metroid Prime Trilogy just sucks because you see Zero Suit Samus for about 1 minute at the most? Metroid Fusion? Zero Mission? Just because the Zero Suit shows up in those games does not mean they somehow lost their way. I would like to have more of an elaboration on what you stated, if possible.
You are making assumptions there, I didn't say anything sucks, but I don't expect it to hit that high note that is Super Metroid.

However, lost their way is a good way to describe it. The focus for Super Metroid was the design and atmosphere of being alone and mysterious. As the series keeps getting more sequels it feels it's lost all of that. The boring anime Zero Suit design was a good sign that they'd focus more on the character inside among other things, because it looked like something good for sexual advertising, and one thing I've never known Nintendo for is their story writing.

I liked Metroid Prime and Fusion, but they really fucked up in some spots. The scanning in Prime surprised me when I found myself enjoying it, but that's when I first heard her lame predictable story, and the design started to become a pain as you couldn't move around quickly. While the story in Fusion I couldn't care for in the slightest, including I also don't care for having to press through text all the time, when it was better uncovering a story through actions, and I'm not fond for the design and style of Fusion either as it all feels mishmash. The rest are even worse.

The magic in the series is dead, and as long as they keep focusing on so many areas, it won't be the cold mean Metroid that made me love it in the first place.

I apologize if I came off as a bit too angrily inquisitive. I just read your post assuming that you felt the Zero Suit was the only reason you feel as though the series peaked at Super Metroid.

Reading your post, I feel like the Zero Suit isn't your biggest problem, but rather the way the other games handle story and gameplay. I certainly won't argue, as you laid out your issues, and gave your personal reasoning. I agree that the less time I spend in story cutscenes in Metroid, the better.

For me the Zero Suit was never a problem because it was really a non issue in the games outside of Zero Mission when Samus loses her power suit. Maybe it's unnecessarily sexy, but if one is playing Metroid to see the Zero Suit, they are playing it for the wrong reason. I figure no one really does that anyway, at least I hope not anyway.

Remember that time in Dragon Ball Z when a frustrated Goku thought out loud to his Grandpa Gohan how he could 'crush them with his bare hands' after being bullied at school? Remember that time Mai wasn't actually a part of the Red Ribbon Army who worked with Emperor Pilaf, she was actually a somewhat submissive lackey working for Piccolo? Remember how Master Roshi taught Goku that the Kamehameha Wave is the most advanced Air Bending technique? Remember how Bulma got into a laser gunfight with Mai?

...Yeah, I don't remember any of that stuff in the main series either.

No problem mate. I made it short to not sound like I'm ranting too much, but I made a mistake, and now see it would only bring about curiosity.

Though I have to say I really don't like the Zero Suit design itself. I probably should've gone into more detail but I find it difficult. It's not the sexy side that really bothers me, it's the design being your average looking anime character when I've seen her look better before. I just mentioned sexy because it was literally advertised everywhere with her in certain poses, and it was obvious they were trying to commercialise it, and I'm usually fine with that, but I really don't like how they went about it for Samus.

As you know, the original prize in the series for completing it quickly was uncovering the mysterious warrior underneath, and a lot underneath if you know what I mean ;-). Well that's gone now, as well as the various looks she had in each original game, and that was one part of the series that made it really unique to me. As well as I preferred those previous depictions, I mean check this out.

These left a lot to my imagination and suited that concept it originally built itself around. And you have to admit she looks a lot more interesting here than that cliche' woopsy wearing the blue cat women suit.

You're free to challenge my opinion any time, but I don't think the best place is in this thread.

There will never be a time I don't hate Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and what it did to Raiden and all of Metal Gear Solid's lore with every waking fiber of my being.

...That being said it looks fun as hell.

I can't really say I have a most-hated, rage-inducing one that I can think of, but for the benefit of all Hellblazer fans, I must point out that everyone's favorite blonde badass in a trenchcoat would probably EAT Darth Keanu for breakfast.

For me, Akane Tsunemori in Psycho-Pass 2.

In the first season, she started out as a timid, rather inexperienced but strong-willed rookie, who as the series progressed becomes a very strong, determined, intelligent police woman. The second season has the opportunity to expand on her character and give us something new.

In the second season, however, they make Akane too dependent to Kougami. She lights cigarettes around her apartment, the same brand that Kougami uses, to get the smell on her clothes, because it helps her concentrate. Aside from this being a really stupid trait added for her, Akane was never that dependent on Kougami. They were partners, they had a close but professional relationship, and they were similar to each other in terms of deduction and investigative skills, but Akane was able to act and think on her own. Sure, she fucked up trying to prevent him from killing Makishima, but this is a character who saw her best friend killed right in front of her and came right back ready for action. There's a scene later on where she's being consoled by a ghostly image of Kougami. This makes her seem like a teenage girl who can't get over an ex-boyfriend, and does a disservice to her character, who has become a strong, smart, and respectable female lead. It feels like Psycho-Pass fanfiction. It's like they wanted to incorporate Kougami in the season somehow despite what happened to please fans, because apparently Akane couldn't carry a 11-episode season herself.

Also, by the end of the second season, nothing new is added to her character. The end of the first episode of this season hypes up that she's gonna face this great challenge that's gonna make her question who she is, but she just goes through the exact same thing as the first season, in which she faces another cunning serial killer, two in fact. No, three even. She has another loved one taken from her, and like the first season, she overcomes it while still retaining her dignity and ideals. We've seen all this before, and nothing changed about her. She's the same person at the end of this as she was at the end of the first season. It's the same thing, except done way shittier.

Speaking of Psycho-Pass, while this wasn't a character I loved, nor did she even have much screen time in the first season but bares mentioned, but Mika Shimotsuki from the same series.

So in the first season, you have this character, who simply started out with a minor role, who in the short time you see her is seen to be level-headed and maybe some level of intelligence, who has her dear friend killed and blames herself for letting it happen. At the end of the season, she becomes an inspector working under Akane.

Now, you can do many things with this character. She's been set up, and it's up to the new writer to actually begin her story.

So here's what they did:

They turned her into a whiny, irresponsible, crude, stupid little brat. She constantly bitches and complains about Akane's every action, despite Akane always being in the right, and even tries to have her inspector status revoked, just for the audience to have someone to boo. She is shown to be incompetent at her job, and never takes responsibility. The most intelligence she shown in the season is when she's investigating Togane, but even that was to simply spite Akane.

Now, all this could've been forgiven. I forgave it early on, because I was hoping in time she develop into something worthwhile. But no, as the series progressed, she just got worse and worse. By the end of the season, she becomes a pathetic, unlikable, wreak of a human being, the fool for the audience to point and laugh at. It's the first time I ever felt like a writer humiliated a character, one that wasn't even his to begin with. This character was born at the end of the first season, and here you had the opportunity to craft her into someone compelling. Instead, you've made her the laughing stock of Psycho-Pass, with little to no redeeming quality. I feel like I've just watched a little girl, left at an orphanage, who is now adopted by her new father, only to be beaten and abused for the rest of her life.

I think the fact that it originally wasn't Ubutaka's character is what pisses me off about this whole thing. If it was Ubutaka's character then I would've hated the character herself, instead of what they did with that character. It just comes across as disrespectful to another man's creation.

Also, The Sybil System from the same series in this same season. I would go on about that, but I have a splitting headache right now, probably my brain trying to repress the memory of this season again.

Man... Psycho-Pass 2 sucks.

Fighting games generally have to commit all sorts of logical fallacies to keep the characters balanced. Hence people being able to beat Majin Buu with Raditz in the DBZ games.

There aren't that many franchises I'm attached enough to cry foul at a new interpretation except for a certain Star Wars EU novel which I shall not deign to mention. All you need to know is that Jaina Solo, the most traditionally heroic of the Solo children who at this point has endured five years of brutal warfare, had romance and seen friends and family die and is 29 years old now was suddenly temporarily reverted to a mental state closer to the average typical teenage girl, as though she'd been spoiled by her parents and never had to lift a finger before. This was done solely to make the people she was visiting look better and the Jedi in general look stupid. Fortunately, it was just for one book.
Reveleation isnt it? I used to think the world of Karen Traviss and her Mandalorians. Three years later, reading her Halo and other Star Wars books, or rather book (get it because they're all the same?), I realized just how bad of a writer she is. Not to mention shes not the nicest person in the world.

Anders in Dragon Age 2. I liked him in Origins' Awakening expansion, but the character changed writer in DA2 and they changed him from being this sarcastic mage that was fine as long as the templars didn't bother him, to this templar hating mage terrorist with virtually no sense of humour and an annoying "hey, wanna bang?" No. "Anders rivalry +9000" moment that pissed me off.

Hmmmmm...honestly, it's tough to think of any.

I guess I'll say Harry Dresden from the (thankfully) short-lived Dresden Files TV show. He was way too on-the-nose snarky without showing that his pigheaded tendencies are a major character flaw of his, rather than something simply to hang comic relief on. Also, the version of Bob on that same show.

The only other one I can think of is Ultimate X-Men's version of Mr. Sinister. Sure, an update to his admittedly ridiculous look would have been appreciated, but they totally lobotomized my favourite mad scientist in the Marvel universe. For shame.

I think I'm somewhere between Donte (from DmC) and what they did to Alex Mercer in Prototype 2, the former because of him supposedly becoming "cool", and the latter because it makes very little sense in regards to the first game, even less if one reads the comic that's supposed to explain why it went as it did. The reasoning used just strikes me as very out of character, especially if looking at the profiles/things written in the game guide. There are ways they could've done it and made it seem in character, but what they did really didn't work for me. :/

I could be mistaken about this, but isn't Darwin (from the X-Men) essentially God-Tier when it comes to his mutant abilities? I haven't read the comics but a review of First Class mentions how he can literally adapt to survive in any situation and ended up traveling through Space...I think...again, I could be wrong. The point though is that he was severely de-powered in the movie for the sole-purpose of his character being the sacrificial lamb that teaches the rest of the team to work together and also hate the main bad guy enough to team up against him.

"Adapt to this"
*explodie-ball down throat...Darwin adapts*
"That all you got?"
*punch*

Yeah, the changes could be frustrating, though I personally didn't mind. I think I'm forgiving of the changes they made, because I've seen several interviews with Jim about why they made the changes they did. And the amount of Development Meddling that took place by the people in charge, totally gutted that show. Still, I personally liked the Harry, and especially the Bob version. xD Funny fact, those 2 actors, have the opposite accents of their characters. The actor for Harry actually has an English accent, and Bob's actor is American. Apparently in a deleted scene, they did a take with their accents reversed for lulz. xD

Urgh, I second that. Tyrantlestia is nothing but the product of paranoia. You know guys, not every wise and benevolent ruler has to secretly be a monster! It's possible to be genuinely kind and decent!

My own choice... well, it's not entirely an accurate answer, but Stannis Baratheon, from the show, Game of Thrones. Let me say to start that I love how Stephen Dillane plays him: he holds himself perfectly. My issues are entirely with the script, and the large changes they've made to his character.

In the books, he doesn't believe in any gods. He's an atheist. The show, on the other hand, has him demanding of others, "How can you deny [Melisandre's] god is real?", and calling non-believers "infidels". Now, the show may leave a few hints that he's not really into it, but book-Stannis would never say those things. Book-Stannis shoots down the religious fanatics in his ranks.
Hear hear! Honestly, while I also love the casting for Stannis Baratheon in the show (Stephen Dillane is perfect), I can't stand how the showmakers write him. He was pretty excellent in Season 2, but from there it's just been a downhill spiral into complete inaccuracy. I think it's fairly obvious that the writers just don't like Stannis very much, considering the lengths they go to to assassinate his character. Stannis isn't a fanatic, he's not Melisandre's puppet, he doesn't burn innocent people. They completely forget about his just nature, his honesty, his humor, and his dedication to saving the realm in favor of making a cheap villain character out of him.

It makes it very difficult for my friends, who don't read the books, to understand why Stannis is my favorite character.

Well for me it has to be the juggernaut in X-men the last stand.
http://thewolfmancometh.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/x-men3-the-last-stand-juggernaut-vinnie-jones.jpg
The second they referred to him as a mutant i felt a sense of dread that could only be compared to venom not referring to himself as "We" rather than "Me" at all in spider-man 3.
Meh it's the little things that count in geeky comic franchises.
