In most RPG's it's Confussion. The one where he can't tell friends from enemies.
But the MOST hated is from FFXII, Diseise. When you take a hit, you maximum HP ALSO drops. Can go down to 1hp...

Confusion/Berserk especially in the Shadow Hearts series where they are essentially the same thing. Because they never just attack the wrong target or use some useless item that I've got dozens of. They use my Seventh Key and slaughter the Healer, leaving me to redo the entire boss fight. Cuz bosses are pretty much the only enemies for most of the game that can keep the fight going long enough to do this to you.

Fear and Domination effects literally drove me away from BG II. Most fights were challenging enough without half my party turning against me or being useless.

Persona 4.

Mahamaon and Mamudoon.

Fuck.

Spend hours grinding in a high-level dungeon and get hit by this? Instant Rageface.

Confusion and Stone tie as my most hated. Usually because I never brought the potion the was required to remove it or didn't have enough points for the spell that would cure it.

Petrification. Not only is your guy dead he's also a statue just as a way of giving you the middle finger over it. (especially bad if it requires a special spell to cure).

Paralysis/stone effects tended to irritate me to a great degree back in the SNES PS1 days. cuz they. never. fucking. ever. worked. on. the goddamn. ENEMIES!

I swear it never worked in 100's and 100's of hours of games. Except earthbound.

Death effects are pretty bad, as is Zombie. Still, the worst are those ones that are awkward to cure and mess with your limit breaks (Curse from FFX), experience (Pointless from FFX-2, or max hp (Virus from FFXII).

I'm drawing from my time playing the old FF titles on SNES, and PS1, and in those, confussion effects are the WORST.

An enemy hits me with one and whomever is effected spends the duration of the encounter beating up on everyone but the enemy, sometimes dealing enough damage to one-shot someone. Yes, I know I can hit that player to break it, but I just hate to waste the turn. Either way, SOMEONE on my team is getting hit by me, and when it's an AOE confussion... God, I just want to break the controller as I watch my team spin around like 'tards.

What's most annoying/insulting, however, is if you use attempt to use it on an AI enemy. 50% of the time it does nothing. 49% of the time, even though it's supposed to make the victim attack a random target, they hit one of my guys anyway. I left a 1% margin of error, because I like to believe that some place, at some forgotten time, in all my years of gaming, an enemy did once attack itself or its allies. I need to believe.

Guild Wars' disease. Holy hell that was annoying, you get hit with it, your entire party then shares it, and it'll last the whole damned battle and for a time afterward as the disease retriggers on people that the person hasn't passed it to.
Nah, backfire was by far the most annoying. Cast a spell, half dead. Wonder why your half dead, heal spell, your no longer half dead. Your now dead. Damn you MESMERS!

Number 1: Death Effects. Sure its a low percent/50% chance that an attack will insta-kill BUUUUT... It NEVER works for me and ALWAYS works when the enemy uses it.

Number 2: FUCKING POISON. Sure Death effects are irritating, sure silencing can cripple strategies but this fothermucking Status condition haunts me in every RPG in existence in some form.

Confusion is pretty dang awful, but it varies in severity in different RPGs. In Wild Arms 3, confusion hasn't at all been a damper on my battles. But in FF X... ugh. Zombie status is pretty awful too, especially when you have to fight Yunalesca and that hard as balls three stage fight.

Actually, in some games paralysis is something that's not so terrible. But in Realmz, if your character was paralyzed, the next physical hit KO's the character regardless of armor level, hit points, or dodging percentage. And you won't be able to rez them until combat has ended. Please tell me someone remembers this game. :(
