Oddly enough, Borderlands, despite the fact I thoroughly enjoy playing it. When it was advertised, it gave off such an aura of variety that it caught my attention. Irritatingly enough, now that I play the game fairly regularly, all the variety is in the guns. And they're niggly things, like leaf-litter. Occasionally you find a bright, pretty flower, but the rest of it is all shop-food. Dead leaves you trample over.
And the variety is only in the weapons. You get like...three types of each enemy. Bandits? You have gunners, psychos and bruisers. With small variations on each. They all look identical, too. No fun.
And on the note of the weapons, I've got a Scoped Stomper or something, 18 shots in a clip, fires in three-shot bursts. Two bursts to the head will kill practically anything, and even Baron Flynt died in a matter of seconds when he floored me.
Black Ops claims the award for overrated as well. Admittedly, I've not played the story at all yet, but the online play is almost identical to previous games, except for the addition of the flamethrower, which is a lot of fun.
Interestingly, I viewed Fallout: New Vegas as rather underrated. Why? Well, all the forums talking about it complained about its flaws. Nobody ever mentioned any good points. They said it was Fallout 3 with a smaller map and more bugs.
This is easily my favourite game of the year. As for the decade...I don't know. I just prefer the Western feel the latest game has. It has a completely different tone to the third game, so although the gameplay is near-identical, it still feels like a very different game.
