I think it's contextual. If there's plausible reason for it, then sure, but if you're just throwing it in there to be M rated, or "controversial" then no.
Pretty much exactly what I was going to say. Sex and nudity has existed in other media for years, but there's a difference between nudity for the sake of passion (a la Titanic) and nudity for the sake of "ZOMG TITS!!11!!" (any Friday the 13th)

I think this should actually be a non-issue. Nudity and sex, gratuitous and otherwise, is completely accepted in all other forms of media. Yet any time that it comes up in a game, the news media pretty much freaks out.

It's a total double standard, and I'm completely sick of it.

There really is a place for it. If it's done tastefully, fine, but if you're throwing busty naked chicks at every corner, no. Unless you're Japanese, I guess.

I think I've gotta side with the folks who said that as long as it remains tasteful and well done and its not just a set of tits flopping all about the screen, then thats fine. Sex is also a natural part of life, and while children don't need to be subjected to that sort of thing until they're truly ready, a game with an adult rating can most certainly show a little skin. Its not like seeing a couple of people involved in relations in a video game is going to cause WW III, although some days, it seems we're only stopping just short of it.

In short(er), and without the A.D.D., yes, there is a place for nudity and intercourse in video games just like there is within every other medium.

I think nudity and sex can be done in a tasteful way whether its in games or movies, games like Rapelay which has been discussed in other sections of the forum is the worst way to depict sex and or nudity.

I think Mass Effect did it in a very tasteful way making it apart of the story based on your interactions with certain crew members.

Nudity can be art when done the right way, the human body, whether real or computer generated is nothing to be ashamed of.

My favorite game of all time, The Witcher, is definitely in the category of "Games for Adults" and has a bit of nudity in it. It's not gratuitous, and you could go most of the game without seeing any, but it's there and it serves a purpose and it's not shoved in your face, so I am totally fine with it.

I do, however, have a problem with an industry (or a country, for that matter) that thinks it's bad to show boobies in a game, but it's perfectly okay to let a 6th grader pretend to hack someone up with a machete. What would happen if we took out every instance of violence and blood in a game and replaced it with bare breasts? Hmmm...

I believe that video games are just coming to terms with the fact they are almost reality and are mainly there for entertainment and interactive story telling.

Much like the movie industry's beginnings there was no nudity and not to much violence. soon came the action movies and then the nudity in some regards. but at the same time there were the extremes being kids movies and porn.

So what I'm trying to say here is that I believe the video game world will soon be reaching that maturity stage where every one will realize that nudity does not make the game instantly a sex game so the mums of the world will hate it and the porn addicts will drool over it but it will just add to the story telling of the game just perhaps to show the love between two characters as an example.

So I say in the future there will be more and more nudity but hopefully all to help the story telling of the game. and of corse there will still be games where no matter what there will never be and games that its mainly based around

If there is a reason for the nudity then sure.
As people said, the sex scene in mass effect fit the plot and the game.
By the same token graphic sex scenes fit sex games and should be allowed.
It is only when they put it in for no reason other than controversy or when it does not fit the plot that I have a problem with it.
It's just like movies, I don't want to see boobs all over my screen for absolutely no other reason than they could, but if said boobs have a reason to be there then so be it.

Believe it or not - false. Although there was a modicum of self-censorship, early cinema was often extremely raunchy and also very violent, especially during the Depression era. It was in 1934 that the moral crackdown finally gained momentum in Hollywood, and the Hays code was enforced which effectively banned nudity from the big screen. In some ways the Depression-era films have still yet to be topped by mainstream Hollywood even today in terms of sheer raunch.

(Other countries didn't have these puritanical restrictions though, and a lot of European films were happy to show explicit sex and violence from then right up until the present day.)

Personally I think nudity and sex in computer games should be at least as common as violence is. I think evening the balance between them wouldn't hurt.

My own personal beliefs and morals are blechapdgfnrjatns;dfgn dfg.

If the game says you're too young, deal with it.
If you're not, then you should enjoy seeing some bouncy, virtual tehts.

I remember seeing a video on this somewhere where the person talking about it stated something that totally changed my outlook on the subject. It was about how a form of art has to accept nudity before it can mature. That is my opinion.
