Well...I'm not sure about a gym, but how about a Colloseum like in Pokémon Battle Revolution? Personally...I want to have a Colloseum lineup that is NOT easy to defeat with elemental type matchups. Essentially...a Colloseum where all the tiers are composed of trainers with decent movesets and balanced between types.

So...how about a Colloseum where you face a gauntlet of champions?

Kanto Champion Red
Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, Snorlax, Pidgeot, Alakazam

Johto Champion Lyra
Meganium, Typhlosion, Feraligatr, Ampharos, Noctowl, Miltank

Hoenn Champion Brendan
Sceptile, Blaziken, Swampert, Manectric, Swellow, Gardevoir

Sinnoh Champion Lucas
Torterra, Infernape, Empoleon, Luxray, Staraptor, Garchomp

Unova Champion Iris
Serpior, Emboar, Samurott, Zebstrika, Unfezant, Haxorus

Orre Champion Wes
Meganium, Typhlosion, Feraligatr, Espeon, Umbreon, Ho-oh

And, just before the main event...

Pokémon Master Ash
Ash's Pikachu, Lapras, Sceptile, Infernape, Scrafty, Lugia

And now...me. But here's where it gets really tricky. My team will consist of six Legendaries, but the team will differ between challenges. How so? Because my team...

...will depend on yours. *grins evilly* I won't say how...that will be MY secret.

I'd have a lightning pokemon team composed of (I only know generation 1 w/ a few exceptions):
-Zapdos
-Raichu
-Magneton
-Electabuz
-Jolteon
-Zekrom (He's Dragon/electric :p )

My puzzle thingy would be a grid of like tesla coils and several switches throughout them. Using a switch turns on a coil but turns on another and you have to find the correct pattern to get to me while still fighting trainers (I have no idea if this has been done in any generations other than 1 since thats all I've played)
Lt. Surge did this...

One of the oldest puzzles in pokemon, and it is in generation 1 :|
Nah the one in Generation 1 is with the barrels that have two switches inside of them. Trust me I just got done playing Pokemon Red again.

Psychic type gym, of course.
I'd celebrate the glory that is Slowbro. The traps would be a waxed floor that causes the player to fling themselves into trainers if they try to run, they have to walk.
My line-up would be:

Espeon
Gallade
Gardevoir
Alakazam
Reuninculus
Slowbro

It hurt itself in the confusion.

That would easily be the most frustrating gym ever.
I'll assume that people ragequitting is a victory due to a technicality...
Add 100 trainers with 6 level 1 magikarp each before that to really up the ante

I'd be a full-on fire gym with 1 exception. I'd have trapdoors and the such and make it as hard as possible. My team:

Charizard
Typhlosion
Archanine
Magmortar
Houndoom
Venusaur (just to throw them off when using water types to beat me)

I would go Dragon/Steel type. The trap would involve you having to light certain torches to open parts of the upper map up (The upper part would be like the flying gym in SS/HG except you ride a dragon). My line up would be:

Bagon
Lucario (he is steel, i checked)
Lairon
Garchomp
Skarmory
Salamance

I am getting rid of timburr for crocodile dude.

I am getting rid of tympole for jellicent

I am getting rid of pansage for sawsbuck

I am getting rid of blitzle for galvantula

I am keeping Pignite

I am getting Braviary for my 6th

Is that lineup any decent?
Yeah it is. It gives you Fire, Fighting, Normal, Grass, Water, Ghost, Flying, Dark, Ground, Electric, and Bug.

It gives you two more move bases to cover than my team.

Mine only covers, Fire, Fighting, Water, Ground, Dark, Psychic, Flying, Grass, Electric.
I decided to replace Jellicent for Carracosta

Braviary for Sigilyph.

That trades ghost for rock but add psychic.

the co-operation gym:
each puzzle is based on a different pokemon:
1. dusknoir (ice/fire/thunder/shadow punch)
the puzzle will be on ice and you have to slid to certain buttons to change a electric maze so you can light 4 lanterns and dusknoir will sometimes apeare and if you slid into him he punches you back to the start of the puzzle.
2. excadrill (sword dance/ earthquake/ metal claw/ rockslide)
you have to go through a tunnel system were you will wither fall through a hole or get sucked up it if it's above you if it is a dead end you have to fight a trainer who will have a drilbur or diglett
3. glavantula (thunderbolt/ electro ball/ agility/ bugbuzz)
it is a maze were you have to push over torches to burn away spider webs.

after that you will have to take me on in a rotation battle, when you win you get the team work badge which is in the shape of two hands shaking each other, you after wards can go to me to teach the punches to your pokemon.

entering battle phrase 'a perfectly united team can beat any challenge, even magicarps could beat arceus if they were working perfectly with each other'

if I win the battle phrase 'you need to know your foe and plan ahead'

if I lose the battle phrase 'Know you must ask did you win with brains or with muscles'
Sorry. Nice post. I like how every room is based on your pokemon and how your gym is based on thinking ahead. Its very personalised, but i would have thought you would specialise in a type. maybe ghost, knowing you.

A bug gym. My team:

Yanmega, Durant, flygon (it's bug-like) and venomoth.

''The speedy, skittering bug trainer!''

A gym based on hitting first and knowing what gives you the advantage, whether in status conditions or in stat lowering!

The whole gym consists of bug catchers and maniacs using status harming and stat changing moves. (mostly confusion in terms of status conditions, since you already have one because of the gyms design)

The gym has 3 rooms, one paralysis, one burn, and one poison. In each room, all of your party is either of these conditions, like in generation 5, poison does not affect you while you walk.

Healing items have been disabled, and the whole gym is a maze of thorns through which you must navigate with alot of dead ends and trainers. At the end of each room you must perform a reactions test in which you have to run forward at the right moment to grab a venonat. The venonat is dropped into a slot and the gate to the next room opens.

The rooms order poison-->burn--paralysis

I am fought without status conditions, but that doesn't mean i won't throw them at you myself!

Team and movesets:

Yanmega: Hypnosis, bug buzz, air slash and double team
Durant: iron head, x scissor, thunder wave and aerial ace
Flygon: toxic, dragonbreath, double team and earth power
venomoth: sleep powder, bug buzz, energy ball and psychic

Badge: Chitinbadge

Before battle:
''Wha? Who're you? ... ... ... ... Don't talk much do you? I guess you're just wierd. But hey i'm Jack. We should battle. GO, YANMEGA!!!''

During battle, after first hit:
''I think faster than you-''

During battle, last pokemon:
''This one can really shift! You'll see-''

After winning:
''You'd better get training! Fast!''

After losing:
That was intense! Despite me hitting first, you still managed to beat my bugs! A quick bow to you, trainer! You earned: The CHITINBADGE!

Good choices. I'm going to train a Braviary, but that will be post main game. Sigilyph is a very sturdy and well rounded Pokemon.

My Sigilyph is at level 37 at the moment and it stats are:

HP:109
Atk:51
Def:71
Sp.Atk:92
Sp.Def:70
Speed:80

The attack stat isn't so good, but I use mostly for its special attacks and that is through the roof. I know each Pokemon will be different, but when training Sigilyph, I rarely saw it gain only one point in any of its stats, it usually gains 2 or 3 points per stat. It even survived some powerful rock slides since I have been training it.

Things are looking up, I'm on my way to the 7th gym and by the time I get there, I'm sure to have a team that out levels the leader's highest level member(level 39), Emboar will sweep anyway.

Id go for a mix of dark, steel and ghost types for my gym, with the gym itself being a kind haunted house/mansion type place were you must find keys and such to open doors to get to yours truly.

team would be:
Cofigrigus lvl 45
golurk lvl 44
shandalure lvl 45
bisharp lvl 45
gengar lvl 44
Darkrai lvl 66 (the leader of the team)

Badge: the Spectrebadge (in the shape of a kind of dark grey scream mask)

other trainers you encounter within the gym are:

paranormal investigator: team is: Haunter lvl 40, litwick lvl 37
paranormal investigator: team is: lampent lvl 40
paranormal investigator: team is: litwick lvl 38, houndour lvl 38, spiritomb lvl 39

I would have 2 weedles.

My puzzle would be pressing a button to open a door. It's an optional puzzle, though.

It'll either be a Half-Steel type, with steel door puzzles (the type where each button opens one door but closes another one):

Scizor
Lucario
Magneton
Aggron
Empoleon
Metagross

OR a Half-fighting type, where there will be a tournament instead of a puzzle (you can't beat one trainer at a time, while returning to the Pokemon center. You have to beat at total of four randomly selected from sixteen, "depending on how they each fare in the tournament"):

Heracross
Lucario
Poliwrath
Gallade
Blaziken

Then again, i DO have a sort of dream team of double-types that all compliment each other (and i personally like the Pokemon). I suppose a double-type gym would be my kind of gym. It would be early though, with no actual puzzle (beyond the part where you can walk behind one of the trainers, if you don't want the EXP.) and two or three gym trainers, each of whom must either have two or three Pokemon with double types that compliment each other (or a single Pokemon with a complimenting double type, like Wooper/Qaugsire with Ground to nullify it's Water weakness to electricity):

Charizzard
Weavile
Magneton
Kingdra
Gallade
Rhyperior

Awesome dude.

But maybe have the Magickarp at level 1 (eggs) and with only splash. Speaking of moves, what would be Gayarados's most powerful lineup of moves? (To Bulbapedia!) Considering it's at level 100, it could survive the recharge turn of moves like Hyperbeam (along with insta-KO'ing anything below lv 50, which is the max level we have seen a trainer needing to be to complete the Gyms). Finally, will its stats me maxed to 255 as well?

a lava gym! it would be in a active volcano only having one island, you would have to figure out how to use the backdoor I would only use a Charizard
