While it still technically works, Killing Floor just loooves to mess with my desktop settings. It changes my resolution, it moves all of the icons all over the place, and it generally makes near irreversible changes. Of course, that was when I still used my CTR monitor before I transitioned over to the beautiful HDMI-capable 16:9 monitor I got for Christmas.

Amnesia: The dark decent

Its what finished off my hard drive, had problems with it before, vowed never to install it again as a memorial to my 3 years I lost.

i'll preface all of this by saying im on a mac.
Splinter cell conviction never launched. after two weeks of not being able to play it, i got a refund.
L4D2 constantly refuses to launch, saying the "server are too busy." the only way for me to fix it, according to steam support, is to reinstall the whole game. i had to uninstall it a few days ago (for the 4th time), and i'm too lazy to reinstall it.

Bioshock.

I love the game, but I can never get the volume to work right the first time. Bioshock 2 works fine though.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
All of my games work, but renegade ops gives me problems, as long as I just go into the game it runs fine but if I mess around in the menu too much then it crashes the game, I hope sega fixes that.

All of mine work or I've found a way to make them work. In fact I have yet to find any program that flat out won't work no matter what you do.

Titan Quest works, but the expansion pack Immortal Throne has inexplicably stopped working. It'll start, but the menus have no text on the buttons and all the 3d objects have their textures replaced with blue and yellow squares.

From what I can tell, it thinks I don't have enough video memory... I have sixteen times the required. So derp?

Even better, it works fine on my Windows 7 laptop, so I know it's not a Windows 7 issue.

Vampire - the masquerade - bloodlines.

They really should not sell games that are incompatible with windows 7.

The first Deus Ex. Screwed up with some modding. Now it doesn't work at all, even if I redownload it.
Delete the game, then go to the game file (steam/steamapps/common/game name) and delete ALL the files inside. Then go to the game's .ini file (My Documents/My Games/other file) and wipe that out too. Then try reinstalling again.

EDIT: Oh, the first Deus Ex? You can probably ignore the .ini file bit, then.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat is poorly optimized that it takes up 98% of my CPU when it is running and caused my laptop to overheat twice already, despite the fact I surpass all of the minimum requirements. I'm never playing it again lest I damage my PC further

Return to Castle Wolfenstein. I loved that game and picked it up on sale over the holidays. I start up the game and it immediately crashes. If I recall, there were some solutions to get around it, but they involved tinkering with drivers which I am too scared to do. I've had bad luck with that before.

Myst and Riven.

Bought them on this huge sale steam had in order to promote the new sale of these old classics.

I didn't realize they weren't updated to at least work with newer computers. Apparently they only work with Quicktime version 1 (or something silly like that)and there's a host of other problems besides the video that keeps me from being able to play it.

Needless to say, I was very sad. At least they were cheap.

Act of War Direct Action.

It supposedly can be made to work for Win 7 but I can't get any workaround to work on my Vista machine.

Do you have games you bought on Steam that never worked or do not work anymore for unexplained reason?

I have the Sims 3 with the infamous initialization error at start-up despite being able to play it on the same computer a month ago.

Rage which Steam just refuses the

Oblivion, which is partially my fault due to the many mods I threw on it, yet even after deleting the oblivion directory and re installing fresh it doesn't want to work.
Initially I thought this was about games we have on Steam that we don't bother playing anymore, or never bothered playing.

OT: The only games I really remember that refused to work were Deus Ex: Invisible War, and some older titles. More recently it's been Gothic, though I found out that it wasn't an issue with Windows 7, as would be expected, but Gothic likes to crash when things such as the in-game Steam overlay try working along side it. Easily fixed by disabled the interface though.

I eventually resolved the Deus Ex problem as well, I think it was a startup parameter that needed to be entered in, which was apparently even an issue on the retail discs. Sadly I never got to see how bad the game was, as people claim, because by the time I fixed it I ironically lost interest in playing.

I don't have any terminal games on Steam (as of yet, knock on wood), so I don't have a "Steam Graveyard" as you define it. I'm sure there will be many more headaches to come though, as I only have 12 games installed out of my library of 94.

I had a persistent problems with Half-Life: Opposing Force. It would always freeze at the moment when you open the lab door and see Freeman enter the vortex. I looked online, and found forums full of people with the same problem, despairing that Valve would ever address it. Some of the messages were about a year old.

Eventually, disabling Steam's chat protocol got it to work again.

No one likely cares, but I'm surprised there's issues like this around without a fix. I have over 200 games purchased via steam and I have no problems with any of them that haven't been fixed within a day.
