The seventh generation of video games is finally nearing a close, and a helluva one it was indeed. Looking back on the state of gaming on the eve of Xbox 360's launch and comparing it now to its current state, it's astonishing how much the industry has changed over the last 7 or so years... For better and for worse.
And so, it was with this frame of mind I thought it would be a nice idea to compose a list of what is, in my opinion, the finest games of this generation. Simple as. Here is my list, in order of preference:

1) The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
2) The Orange Box
3) Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
4) LittleBigPlanet
5) Demon's Souls
6) Dark Souls
7) Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
8) Gears of War
9) Portal 2
10) Red Dead Redemption

So there you have it. What does your list look like, bruv?

Honourable Mentions: Grand Theft Auto IV, inFamous, Flower, Limbo, Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, Telltale's The Walking Dead, BioShock Infinite, Minecraft and Left 4 Dead.

Ones to Watch: The Last Guardian, Dark Souls II, The Last of Us, Grand Theft Auto V, Beyond: Two Souls and Metro: Last Light.

I always have trouble with an entire generation. It's been like 10 years or something ridiculous! Fuck it, i'll try.

I have to mention BlazBlue CSEX... I mean. HAZAMA BABY! HE AIN'T THE FIGHTING KIND OF GUY, SON!

[sub][sub]I fucking love that line[/sub][/sub]

Using the loophole of a re-release, I can mention Persona 4, the greatest game ever made.

Batman: AC was AWESOME, Bioshock Infinite is a given... Ummm.

Katawa Shoujo because that is the damn best Visual Novel I have read to date. THE FEELS! THE HANAKO FEELS!!

Fuck it, that'll do.

Hmm.... This is surprisingly hard. The following are the only games I can think of that are actually worthy of being on such a list. They're not in any particular order since it would be too difficult to rank them.

1. Skyrim
2. Dragon Age: Origins
3. Fallout: New Vegas
4. Mass Effect
5. Witcher 2
6. Oblivion (only with mods)

And that's the best I can do.

Valkyria Chronicles (most interesting game this gen)
Portal 1 (might actually be most interesting)
Fallout 3 (most interesting world to explore this gen)
Saints Row 2 (most WTFs this gen & 2nd most fun co-op)
Borderlands 2 (most fun co-op...& most guns ever)
Just Cause 2 (most map...and ways to traverse it)
Child of Eden (most trippy)
Rock Band (most fun with a group)
Batman AA (most fun comic book game I've played...ever)
Modern Warfare 3 (I can understand people avoiding it because they already have a couple of COD games or other MFPSs, but that one was my favorite)

In no particular order:

Orange Box
Valkyria Chronicles
Batman Arkham Asylum
BioShock
Mass Effect series (I count it as one game)
Elite Beat Agents

And I'm gonna have to stop here. There have been plenty of great games, but if asked what name the greatest at the drop of a hat, these are the ones that come to mind.

Trials Evolution
The Witcher
Orcs Must Die
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Mass Effect
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed
FallOut 3
League of Legends
Bloodline Champions
Street Fighter IV

No, I did not just list the first 10 games that came to my mind. How dare you accuse me of such a thing!?
I'll never be able to decide on a top 10; plus, the time it would take for me to go through the years and try and remember what I played... yeah, that'd be more effort than it's worth. You don't care what my list is anyways :p Have a good day, you beautiful person, you.

I haven't really played that many games from this generation, so I'll only try and list about 8 of them:
1. Saints Row 2 (Just amazing game all around. Even though I love SR:TT to death, I just kind of love this more.)
2. Team Fortress 2 (This was the game to get me into First Person Shooters.)
3. Portal (Just a generally good experience all around, and had a fun, yet challenging, time playing it.)
4. BioShock Infinite (I don't think I can say anything about this game that hasn't already been said.)
5. Cave Story (Just a fun game all around.)
6. Minecraft (Because while I did eventually get bored of playing the regular game, I can still get enjoyment out of the many custom game modes and mods.)
7. Super Mario Galaxy (So many fond memories of the game, plus it feels very polished and not just a rushed sequel *Cough*SuperMarioGalaxy2*Cough*.)
8. Garry's Mod (If I were to say the game that generated the most stupid fun for me out of all games this generation, this would be it.)

Difficult to list them in order, however;

1; Minecraft
2; Portal 2
3; Skyrim (modded)
4; Fallout 3
5; Civilization V
6; Bioshock
7; Halo 3
8; Borderlands
9; Castle Crashers
10; Amnesia

Special mention; DayZ. I never anticipated how immersive it would be. Though it's not normally my sort of game, I can see the monumental leap it has taken in realism and gameplay which many large game companies fail to do.

1) Fallout 3 - I did everything there ever was to do, three times.
2) Saints Row 2 - I had no idea this was a GTA clone when I got it for my birthday, the rest is history.
3) Minecraft - That'sssss a nice third ssssssspot you have there.
4) Civ 4 - Because I still had that when Civ 5 came out. Civ 5 could probably take it's place.
5) Bioshock 2 It's a real joy to play, the story wasn't quite there, but the game was.
6) Assassin's Creed 2 - The other ones not so much, but I liked 2.
7) Mabinogi - While I've stopped playing because the setting got old after 2 years, still the best MMO imo
8) Mass Effect 2 - Where the combat was the combatiest and the choices where the choiciest.
9) Dark Souls - Learning to make combos and defeat the cheaper bosses was actually rewarding.
10) Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced 2 - Eh, this would've been pushed out by Xcom... but it's the same tactical rpg I enjoy.

Special mention goes to Xcom: Enemy Unknown, who probably would've slipped into the number three slot and force everything down one, but I haven't gotten to play it yet.
