The lack of proper matchmaking. I would love a 6vs6 queue where I could choose my role and go in, play a round and be done with it. Pubbing is only interesting for some amount of time and since most servers are (were) premium BS or Valve servers it was hard to even tell if I progress in my ability as Scout.
I have a solution for you: http://rc.tf2center.com/

It's used for competitive play, though if you're wanting to play 6v6, that's probably not an issue for you. Requires that you have 100+ play hours in order to join, and you need Mumble too. I would have recommended TF2 Lobby, but that seems to be down at the moment and not very well maintained any more.

Be aware: I've not personally used this service, so I can't vouch for how well it works or what the community is like.

ill never stop being amazed by the kind of stuff the TF2 community can come up with

this is why TF2 has the best community of ANY game, atleast in my opinion. its full of resourceful, venturous, funny, helpful, talented and skilled folk

Meh this thread makes me want to reinstall TF2, I usually main medic/healers in games (either that or the Tank role, quite fond of being a bullet sponge) and its true playing a TF2 medic in particular was a lot of fun. That and engie were fairly interesting classes to play and I do miss it a bit...

Anyways list of annoyances that put me off the game at the time.

1) Hats. Yeh I'm one of those that couldn't care less about them so the game's obsession with it made me groan.

2) Crates. Related to the above I guess. All it does is spam the game and try to tempt me to get keys to get a peak to see what it is. I wish I could turn this pseudo skinner effect off, all it did was detract from the core game.

3) People spamming requests to trade and being distracting pests.

4) Snipers. Not really specific to TF2 though, Im just trying to find 5 reasons and only had 3, but yeh, snipers, what pricks! Always killing me when I was just minding my own business not paying attention to them.

5) Lack of snow maps? Running out of steam here tbh so just gonna go with that.

Only in TF2 have I come across both teams calling a cease-fire to build stacks of players, because why the hell not? Or have taunt-kill fights. It's usually one of the two. Local communities can be utterly brilliant, too, often having a good laugh.

The ultimate test of Hoovy skill is the pootis-pow/nomnomnom. I like my troll Heavy loadout better, though. Fists of Steel + Steak = 70% damage resistance to ranged attacks, minicrits and faster run speed. All you need then is decent aim and reactions to punch scouts out of the air.

I rely on the surprise of a fast(er) heavy coming at them with fists flailing. Anyway, I suppose I'd better contribute to the topic, hadn't I?

OT: In no particular order:

1. The ever popular excessive Spy/Sniper count. A team of Pyros will win through sheer weight of numbers and the power of W+M1. A team of Sollies will win through the same manner. Same with Demos, Heavies and even Scouts (I've seen it happen). A team of Spies will not. A team of Snipers will not. We do not need 8 Snipers, now balance the classes out a bit more, you dipsticks. No. We do not need 5 Spies, either. Especially since only one of you can actually play it well.

2. AFK's. If you're not going to play, sod off. Free the slot up for someone who can and wants to do so. Going for a slash is fine, but disappearing for half-an-hour before disconnecting in unacceptable. Get thee gone.

3. Porn sprays. Knock that shit off, seriously.

4. Non-English speakers on mic/kids on mic/mic spammers/screamers. Yes, yes, I know, hit the mute button. I put up with the first one if I'm not on a server that enforces an "English only" rule on mic (which is rare, as I basically only play in one community), but the others can go sit on a cactus. My main problem with the first (before anyone jumps on me) is that English is the predominant language in both the game and on the internet. If you want to play with others who speak your language, go find a more local server to yourself.

Don't even get me started on kids.

5. Bodyshot complainers. Sniping is a game of reactions. You see sniper, he sees you. You fire, he fires. I shot first, I killed you. I'm alive, you're not. Go rage some more. I generally aim high, but if I'm looking to put bodies on the floor in as short a time as possible, I'll go for the bigger target. Don't like it? Tough. Perhaps you should consider why you're staring at a death cam, while I'm busy harassing your team-mates. Or learn to snipe-dodge.

At the end of the day, you're dead, I'm not. You lost. Deal.

1. Quickbuyers, I feel they have ruined the economy by always asking for massive discounts on unusuals and then selling them at massive markups to make a quick buck. I swear it's impossible to find someone on outpost who actually wants to buy an unusual with pure for a fair prices, all the trades ask for at least a 30% discount before they will even consider your hat

2. Being on a team with too many snipers/spies without any support or useful classes. At most there should be 2 snipers and/or 2 spies on a team at any moment and even that can be pushing it at times especially if the team doesn't have a medic. I can't count the times I play medic for a round and decide to play soldier and see that our entire team can't get past the first point all the while we have 4 snipers and no medic.

3. W+M1 Pyros. For those who don't know W+M1 refers to to player's who believe the pyro's only function is to walk forward lighting people on fire and completely ignore what may be his most useful tool, the airblast.

4. Phisher bots, they are just annoying nowadays since everyone knows of the fake links they use I just wish I could bump my trades once on outpost without being added by at least one of them.

5. Mini-Sentries, they are too easy to build, they don't require much investment, and it makes it so engies don't become attached to their sentries and so they won't care about where they place them.

anyways adding to my previous complains, probably pony sprays, im just getting sick of ponies all together being spammed everywhere, and im in the server having a good time, when i see some damn pony spray of a brony that things hes so clever and such. depending on my mood i get more or less pissed about it

pardon my opinion (looking at your avatar i can see you are a fan of the show) but im so incredibly tired of the whole pony thing simply because a lot of bronies never knew when to stop

Ha, then you wouldn't like me. I have a Luna spray that I move around on a regular basis. :p

Though seriously, you shouldn't let something as inoffensive as that bother you. Just ignore them, or disable sprays in the menu if they bother you that much. Not worth getting worked up over.

Unless the brony in question is deliberately calling attention to the spray, and bragging about it. Then you're well within your rights to tell them to stfu.

when that innofensive thing is posted and posted ad nauseum, yes it bothers me, other sprays dont bother me so id hate to disable them because of those people

im within my rights to say when something is bothering me, regardless of the fact the brony in question is bragging or not, as if there was any shortage of references to that show in the world

It doesn't really affect you, though, does it? It's not hindering you playing the game, it's not crashing the server, or grinding play to a halt, it's just a PNG slapped on a wall. Doesn't take more than a tiny amount of effort to ignore it. It actually takes more to complain.

I didn't say you weren't, but perhaps you should stop for a moment and examine why something so inconsequential bothers you so much. You might find that, in the grand scheme of things, it really doesn't matter.

hardly anything matters when you look at it from far away enough, you are one person, among billions, in a tiny blue speck in the vastness of the galaxy, orbiting a star that is just one among billions and billions in the same galaxy, and this galaxy is among billions and billions in the universe, and theres probably an infinite number of parallel universes as well

but i wont stop complaining about things just because under a particular scope it might be meaningless, if it bothers me, its not meaningless to me

look, lets leave it like this, i know where this is going, im already getting pissed, i dont like constant pony references, and i certainly dont like the people who defend them either, arguing its the divine right of others to post any shit they please, but its a sin agaisnt all things right for me to be pissed about it

i dont want to discuss this anymore

You're right, I did, though I have good reason. There are often minors in my house on a regular basis, I don't want to run the risk of them seeing it. Also, TF2 is not the place for a gif of two blokes engaging in what two blokes engage in the bedroom. Not to mention that, though I don't like it, kids do in fact, play the game. Fortunately, the community I play with has rules against this, so it's not often it happens.

All true, but my basic gist was that perhaps you should just chill out a bit, relax, etc. Life's too short to be getting wound up by something as utterly pointless as that. Consider the topic dropped.

I'm completely okay with a full team of half-wit snipers that aim like they have Parkinsons, while the enemy team is full of Asians that have been playing since the beginning. Or every single server I join in the future having unskippable ads. But I am just not okay with demoknights. At all. Why you'd be able to make a class move at the speed of light, (90% of the time) one hit kill you due to either latency or hit boxes, have to ability to resist damage types and make the only class useful against said Demoknight entirely useless by removing afterburn, is completely beyond me.

I know Valve really wanted to try and keep the classes balanced, but damn did they really cock it up with the Demoknight.

For what it's worth, I've been playing TF2 since 2007-8 and played both the PS3 and PC versions, so I think I know what I'm talking about at this point. Doesn't make my views any more valid, but take what I say for what it's worth.

I guess you think Uber-Chain is something other than a glorified dance routine that completely defeats the purpose of a class that heals teamates.

4. Engineers building and upgrading in spawn before moving up (assuming they do move up). The battle's over there, numbnuts! The team might as well be short a player for all the help you're being. I'd rather see a level 1 sentry on the front lines than a level 3 one at spawn. Remember, all it takes is one backstab or headshot while carrying a building to sabotage all that work.
Yeah, I should have put this on my list too. I can kinda get the idea behind building/upgrading stuff at spawn and then moving up, but I can't get the logic behind building your sentry and dispenser at the last point and then waiting around there the entire round. This happens so often on Badwater.
I have to disagree with this, moving from the PS3 version and finding I could move sentries like that proved to be a godsend. There's no logic in building a sentry at the frontline after the round's started, it's pretty much guaranteed to be insta-killed by two soldiers unless you're just behind the lines and even then, you always have the case of the one guy who takes the long way around so he can get the jump on you. It always made sense to me to build the sentry away from the place where below Lv.3 it's pointless and then hightail it up to the current contested point/cart, drop it and force them back.

Also, I'm guessing you've never instantly lost a round in dustbowl because a spy decloaked on the second point immiediately after the first one was captured and there was no one around to stop him.

Anyhoo:

I could really say anything after 2010, the game steadily grew more irritating for me as I would be demanded by a second medic to Uber-Chain as opposed to, you know, actually heal the fucking team and back them up. Generally I hated the items becuause there would be this new gimmick I'd be expected to get to grips with rather than focusing on actual teamwork.

Why the fuck would I even need the airblast if I use the Backburner and play AmbushPyro? Why the fuck would I want to charge in with a claymore and shield when I played Demoman for traplaying?

Not to mention items like the Tomislav that would break the game until they were patched. I eventually got sick of how the simple but deep Teamwork based FPS I loved slowly turned into MTG with guns.

You know airblast exists, right? One simple puff knocks the wind out of their sails, and you can happily wail on them with the flamethrower while they either frantically back-pedal, or just puff them back as they try to close. Shotgun also works wonders. Heavies chew them up with no issues, Scouts can meatshot them in between sword swings, Sollies will knock them all over the place, a few stickies/pipes fucks them up good and proper and sentries will still annihilate them. Hell, a good headshot from a Sniper is all it takes.

A Demoknight's strength lies in the surprise of the charge and the tap+swing combo of the shield and sword, take that away from them and they're helpless. Very easily countered "class".

Oh, I know of those things but thanks anyways. I would just love to have such a function in the client. In addition to watching competitive matches through the client. Like in CS:GO. The client of that game (and DOTA2) just shows how lackluster the TF2 client actually is.
Oh ok, fair does. Didn't know that CS:GO did that. I should probably play it more. ^^

Well, the problem I have with that type of strategy is that I play on servers that have a lot of aggressive Spies that will back-stab you to death as soon as you pick your sentry up and start moving it around. The issue is mitigated if you have an adequate spy-checker accompanying you (on rare occasions, pyros actually assist you when they see you are moving yer shit), but usually you are on your own. I prefer building sentries close enough to the frontline that I don't have to carry it a lot, but also far away enough that it won't get immediately blown up either.

Ninjamedic said:

I was mostly referring to payload maps and 'symmetric' control point maps. Attack/defence Dustbowl is one of those maps where people absolutely should keep an eye on the second point too. I've lost a ton of games on that map because people forget what the objective of the map is and don't guard the last point.
