Ignore the fools. I don't even know who they are trying to attract with this. I love all three games they mentioned, and I can't even get Ghostwire. "Cultural Appropriation" or not. Last I checked, Tsushima, nor SIFU invoked bad, racists, or cultural stereotypes.

Socially conscious readerbase and allowing journalists to write something insightful. Take SIFU for example, as Wen mentioned, a Chinese dub was an afterthought rather than "Polish Asian Martial Art game made by Asian for Asians" or how Ghosts of Tsushima use B&W mode to honor Kurosawa rather than seeing the influence of Chanbara films that influenced Hollywood to do their own inspirations in the wake of loosened standards due to the Hayes code.

Given he mentioned Yakuza I get the context, there is things that you don't really see outside of Japan like the Seirei Junchi for example where it's Kiryu and the cast of Yakuza walking through an ever-changing red light district throughout the last 15 years and how much a single setting changes

But ofc journalists are pretentious and only purpose is write good reviews

I would not call any of that insight. A bunch of douch-nozzles trying to come off as "smart" and intellectual is more like it.

Somewhat saddening, but at least they considered and chose to do another dub.

What comes around goes around. Everything comes full circle. Art does not exist in a vacuum. Even though SP's influence is coming from Kurosawa and Chanbara films either way. They did more than enough research and paid proper respect to their sources, and gives proper credit where it is due. If the Japanese love Tsushima so much, and feel no offense nor discomfort, then mission accomplished.

But ofc journalists are pretentious and only purpose is write good reviews
A majority of them can't write a proper review, let alone a good one.

Why is it called 'The Legend of Zelda' anyway? Link is the one that does all the legendary stuff.
I like to think this within the in-game world's context. Yes, there's always a hero that defeats the king of evils, but since both the hero and the villain always appears every couple of centuries or so, they are more of a myth.

Meanwhile, the royal family is always there to carry the bloodline, and I'm guessing every princess is named "Zelda" and always has the ability to lead the other six sages in sealing away the evil. It may not happen with every Zelda, but they must remember their mission and the power given to them. For the people of Hyrule, the hero only appears in story while Princess Zelda is always there for them.

I personally don't care if the character you play as does something really cool in a cutscene that I can't in gameplay. I understand the limitations of what you can and cannot do with a game. I don't need people whining about this anymore, it's not a big deal, and in a good game you should already be doing enough cool stuff anyway.

I personally don't care if the character you play as does something really cool in a cutscene that I can't in gameplay. I understand the limitations of what you can and cannot do with a game. I don't need people whining about this anymore, it's not a big deal, and in a good game you should already be doing enough cool stuff anyway.
I think it's normally an issue when the character does shit in a cutscene that's vastly different then in gameplay. Notably the first Witcher game where Geralt spends the opening cutscene doing all sorts of amazing shit to fight a monster, and yet in-game pretty much gets stopped by knee high obstacles. It's Jarring.

What makes it even more baffling is he actually does do some amazing shit, only during the rhythm-based combat via mouse clicks. So the fact that they bothered to code that into actual gameplay but not a simple hop over trivial obstacles is very facepalm-ish. It was one of the best things they rectified in the sequel.


I also gotta hand it to Naughty Dog for taking action scenes that were usually left to cutscenes and making them fully playable set pieces in the Uncharted games. Also to an extent God of War does this too but it’s mostly in QTE, which…you know what maybe that shit was best left for cutscenes the more I think of it. Worse yet is the button mashing shit like a demi god struggling for about five seconds to open a door or treasure chest when he just got done dropping a stone temple on an ogre’s head.

I watched a mod that made Halo Infinite third person, and a fair few number of commenters were complaining about the movement and how it looks unfinished. The most common complaint however was how it didn't look like the Halo of their childhood (of course lmao).

I can somewhat understand what they mean. Having fast and frenetic movement in shooters isn't inherently bad, but I do think the way it has permeated into almost every single FPS franchise is bothersome. Too much of a good thing and all that. Every shooter these days wants a grappling hook, a slide mechanic, bunnyhopping, whatever. Sometimes I just want to focus on shooting my gun rather than running around like a headless chicken hoping you finish reloading before your opponent catches up to your random spasming.

Such is the way of competition. Competitive FPS games have driven the genre further and further in an arms race to be the most up to date and quick and mechanically challenging as possible.
I'll take that any day over another COD clone or wannabe "modern military" shooter with Regen-Health and two weapon limit for "realism".

Start searching for indie retro style FPS, actual old school FPS, or older FPS from 6th generation and pre-COD4. Or play Crysis Remastered Trilogy.

The "Halo of their childhood" involved trudging for minutes on end at a brisk walk across empty landscapes, because Bungie didn't want gameplay getting in the way of admiring their beautiful level design (especially the skyboxes). Fortunately for the old-school fans, the Destiny series still has plenty of that!

(Seriously, I replayed the MCC recently and the first couple of games had me hammering the Shift key while muttering "why can't I go faster?".)

I find it funny that someone like Grayson (who is a drunken pirate recovering from being hung over) from Bulletstorm, moves faster than Master Chief, and can sprint and slide from long distances. Crysis series Nomad, Psycho (when he had the suit), Alcatraz, and Prophet can also run and sprint from long distances. Alcatraz and Prophet can slide sick too. Even Jack Carver in Far Cry Instincts could move quicker than the Chief, before and after he got the animal powers.

I guess they wanted to give ol' 117 a sense of being a hefty boy in a big metal suit, but then the Arbiter came along (with his far lighter-looking ceremonial armor) and he moved just as slowly as Johnny boy, even though other Elites seemed to be quite a bit more mobile.

Halo just never appealed to me. It has some cool stuff, don't get me wrong, but there's just nothing that got me invested in the series. Keep in mind, I was around when the franchise first started. So I was more than aware and grew up on the impact it had on the industry. Even back then though, I didn't care much for most shooters and only played particular ones.

Between the two, Bulletstorm and Mad World, Bulletstorm has the overall better gameplay and environmental hazard variety. More ways to fuck up mooks. Mad World still has the most distinct design. Pretty much no game can match the black and white style pulled off there.
