It was fun when it was actually giving you platforming challenges, unfortunately most of the game was just walk around and collect all the crap lying around.Nah. Disagree. Odyssey was a blast.

It did indeed.Odyssey kind of sucked too.
So true. For anybody interested in an exhaustively thorough exploration of the games faults and successes, I recommend watching Joseph Anderson's review of the game:It did indeed.
I haven't touched Wonder since finishing it, but there was at least a sense of competent platforming gameplay. Odyssey's level design felt like it came out of a Ratchet and Clank game. Which is no slight against R&C, but that's primarily walking around and shooting. And that's what Odyssey felt like; just walking around with the occasional simple jumping challenge. For all the praise this game was getting post-release for its supposed deep platforming controls, it really didn't mean much since the level design required only the bare minimum of competence.
Both Galaxy and Galaxy 2 were superior platformers. Even 3D World had more creative level design. But people were collective creaming themselves over Odyssey's bland cardboard serving.
I know that guy. Odyssey (I do like it more than Galaxy 2 though) I just found okay, but still an enjoyable will 3D Mario game. I have no problem agreeing Wonder and 3D World are better and greater games. So true. I think it's fair to give indies more a of "break" since they're working on such a smaller scale. As someone whose an indie dev myself and working on my own project, indies do tend to get more of a break compared to AAA/bigger budget studios. Which isn't good. False positives are just as bad, if not worse, than false negatives.
What do you mean by insistent? I'm curious.I think it's fair to give indies more a of "break" since they're working on such a smaller scale.
But yes sometimes it goes a bit too far where people take on certain games as a cause and are rather... insistent. Annoyingly insistent.
UE4 wasn't exactly rock-solid right out of the box, either. It'd be nice if Epic was better at optimizing their engines before releasing them, but it's not like we've never seen this kind of problem eventually be ironed out."Wake up boys, a new engine the vast majority of gamers/consumers who don't know much or give a shit about we fuck ass youtubers have to strawman in order to say it's bad!"

Have you played Outer Wilds? It's amazing. It's so great because you explore. I mean really explore not like those dull open world AAA games but it's mystery and doesn't hold your hand. It's a life changing experience. Don't worry if your eyes hurt from the constant darkness, you find first person navigation around physics to be literally nauseating, or you don't have the schedule that allows you to remember what the heck was going and where anything is because the world literally dies every 22 minutes- you will just love it so much that this stuff that you think is annoying is actually good! What do you mean by insistent? I'm curious.
Oh I see what you mean. It's that audience bias of "well these are game tropes/standards, and if you deviate from this path, you're a failure."Have you played Outer Wilds? It's amazing. OMG Undertale is so great- don't be dissuaded by the 1983 graphics and art or that combat is dull as dirt, it's all so META and like a game about game which is super cool, not like games that are about whatever you know? I once played it without doing anything in it which made a skeleton my friend and I cried, that's how spiritual this game is. Call of Duty won't do that!
....
This is the kind of vibe certain fanboys of certain games give off- it's like if you don't love these things you're a dumb asshole.
(I picked one game I couldn't get into and one game I actually did like to illustrate that this "insistence" isn't about my opinion of the games themselves more about certain fans of certain games)
You mean "How many games can we reuse Morrigan's sprites in" Capcom?

Both of you have your points, though MS is so much worse. You can at least ignore the shitty and insistant fan boys and tell them to fuck off. It's what I do.Oh I see what you mean. It's that audience bias of "well these are game tropes/standards, and if you deviate from this path, you're a failure."
Ok yeah sure, buddy. Giant tech corps like microsoft can net in a profit of $88.1 billion just last year, yet don't even increase the wages of their employees. Standard, normalized practice that's absolutely dogshit. And the dumbass motherfuckers who are just sheep, and just accept whatever it is that's thrown at them, don't question it! The same mentality in which people don't question bad/homogenized game design.
That's because games like God of War I, Devil May Cry 3-5, Bayonetta, and Metal Gear Rising especially, made parrying really popular. Then you have those that don't understand why they work, and implement parrying poorly or throw in there for the sake of it. Most of the Japanese or Southeast Asian developers tend to get this right, while most of the Western devs fail or do a less than stellar job. Thankfully, I've seen more hits than misses. At least with the games I play any way.Like "why is almost every 3d action game a stupid ass simon says parry fest? Did these devs even bother to think about how to approach 3d melee combat within the abilities of the player, instead of just a one trick pony mechanic?"
Even then, MG Rising and Devil May Cry have way more options given to you to fuck enemies up. Parries aren't a one size fits all situation in those games. Royal Guard be damned. Both of you have your points, though MS is so much worse. You can at least ignore the shitty and insistant fan boys and tell them to fuck off. It's what I do.

Damn straight. That said, parrying ain't going away anytime soon. Fallen City Brawl has a block-parry mechanic that works surprisingly well. Phantom Blade 0's parrying works like MGR's and will be coming out later this year.Even then, MG Rising and Devil May Cry have way more options given to you to fuck enemies up. If you're a furry, I'm not gonna judge. Not the first time, someone has made furry versions of Morrigan or other Darkstalkers characters.I hate you for posting this.
