While I don't have a "waifu" in the strictest sense of the word, I do have a female character that I do very much enjoy learning about.

if I could weaponize the cuteness contained within this picture, you would all bow before me.
also:
Waifu? No. I loathe everything that word represents.

Favorite female cartoon character?
[img]http://images5.fanpop.com/image/photos/27200000/Oban-Molly-Eva-ending-credits-oban-star-racers-27222456-640-480.jpg?1357679156918
YOU! YES YOU! You, sir, have won the internet for not only referencing Oban Star-Racers, but selecting Eva as your favorite female character. For this, I applaud your actions and only wish that I could properly honor your decison with a large medal made out of silicon and circuitry.

No I do not have a Waifu, because I don't want to date a two dimensional being. I can appreciate characters, but I don't want to fucking cuddle them.
HA! That is too funny.

Chie Satonaka is best waifu.

Yukiko, Rise, and Naoto are fine and all, but none beat Chie. I mean, c'mon, who doesn't love a girl with a craving for lots of meat?

...

I meant, like... steak. Steak meat. Yeah.

I think it's funny how seriously people are taking this thread just because of the term used. :D (Even if they are overreacting on purpose.)

I don't have one, 'cause like I said in a thread a few minutes ago, I don't tend to get very attached to fictional characters, but if I had to pick I'd probably go with Chie Satonaka.

Actually, I think it's a little disconcerting how easy it was for me to make that choice...
Basically this entire post.

Never really thought about it, but I'd make that choice too.

And to keep this post from getting too short, I'm just going to type out the random words bingle bongle dingle dangle yikitie do yikitie da ping pong lipie tapie to ta.

If I chose a manga/anime character that had a persona I liked and found attractive to look at, it would probably be Misaka Mikoto.
Didn't copy the image to save peoples screens, but what anime?
Fairly certain it's To Aru Majutsu No Index (A Certain Magical Index)...
You are right. She is also the protagonist in the spin off manga/anime To Aru Kagaku no Railgun (A Certain Scientific Railgun).

Pretty sure waifu is more along the lines of an anime character (normally female) that someone feels attached and attracted to, usually to the point where they don't have the greatest grip on reality.

Hence the creepiness factor.
You're right in that it is usually the proper definition of the term, and in Japan attachment to 2D characters is a big issue. Within this thread I had assumed it was used lightly to mean who is your favourite fictional girl, in the same way the western world took the term "Otaku" and and used it incorrectly to define anime/manga hobbyists.

At least that was my thinking when I replied, and I really REALLY hope I was right.

You guys remember that Critical Miss comic a while ago about Schrodinger's cat? That last panel? That's how the word 'waifu' enters my head.

Waifu.

Waiiiifuuuu~

Let it burn.

As for my favorite fictional female character?

Truly an awesomely written character. Subscribed to Senjougahara Fascination.

You, sir, just made my day with that joke.

OT: Because I could actually care less, I'm going to go with whatever my butt is my currently on is my "waifu." If I'm on the couch it's the couch, if I'm in a chair it's the chair. Just don't expect me to get all lovey with any of them.

Wait a thought I clicked on The Escapist not /tv/!

OT: Although not really a waifu, Lilly from Katawa Shoujo fits my type of girl to absolute tee.

Somewhere, maybe it was reddit, they were on this topic earlier this week. I can understand being a fan of certain characters, but the hardcore Waifu movement seems a little out there. And if you're so devoted to them how can you have had 3 previous waifus. Is there a divorce procedure? Do you need to burn all your Black Lagoon dvds if you give up on Levi?

Well, since I have a life?no, I don?t have a ?waifu?.

But if I had to pick one, it?d probably be Envy from Fullmetal Alchemist.

DAT ANDROGYNY

Yes, I know he's male. But, in the manga and second anime, he would technically have no gender, since he?s a shapeshifting homunculus. Anyway, I'm not ashamed of admitting that I'm attracted to guys that look like pretty girls. Or just femininity in general.

I was always wondering up until the half way point whether he was a dude. The voice, hair and the outfit were all distictly female so it kinda shocked me when I found out he was actually... A giant/tiny green lizard made up of human souls.

OT: I have only used the phrase "waifu" sarcastically. While there are plenty of characters in anime who I would enjoy having a physical relationship with were they real, I would not refer to them as a "waifu" in the same way what I would not refer to my spouse as "snookums" unless I was being extra sarcastic or ironic.

As someone who knows the futility of having a waifu, I do not possess one. As someone who WISHES they could have a waifu IRL, Hanako and Emi from Katawa Shoujo or Mizore from Rosario. They all make me want to cuddle them and tell them everything's alright.

Someone needs to tell that poor girl to go see a doctor, her eye appears to be on fire. Must be quite uncomfortable.

I can't even say the word aloud, it's just that kind of word. I can't even say it ironically.
Oh yes you can. You are British are you not? You can say anything ironically..its your racial/cultural skill... :p

Okay, I haven't watched TV or anime in years...so the only animated characters that come to mind are...

I can't crush on Disney characters like a 12 year old boy might--and it's been eons since I've been 12--but Shego and Kim Possible are (normally) cute.

Well, it's a tie between Joan Holloway:

Or Saffron:

Joan is much less likely to steal my wallet, but Saffron could teach me how to fly a spaceship.
