YouTube has become an ungodly pile of awfulness, just why, Google, why?

Yeah, same here. Saw nothing warning-worthy about it.

Also, guys - there is a chrome extension that lets you disable comments. Get it. Now.

Seriously, I've never realized how much more enjoyable videos are without that crap.
He mentioned having Ad-block.

You never say you are using Ad-block on this site.

This new update is horrible. I mean, the older updates were often full of crap, but this... the way they're not allowing to write any comments if you don't have a Google+ account, it's just utter bullshit. I love writing comments and feedback, and most of the time, the video creators like to get feedback. I've gotten to know a lot of people and video makers thanks to the comment section. But this is just so fucking stupid. I know it's a bit silly, but I'm pretty damn upset about this.

I wish there was something i could do, or well, "we" could do, to change the minds of whoever's making these changes. They're just forcing Google+ down my throat, basically. A useless social networking page, that i really do NOT need. And i can't do shit about it. It's just so frustrating. Really damn frustrating, you know. The feeling of not being able to do anything againt Google or YouTube, since they're such powerhouses. Sending feedback? I doubt anyone even reads those. Or even if they do, i seriously doubt they'll make any changes even if they get spammed with those. And my frustration is just growing, the more i think about this whole thing. And nothing comes to mind. How could we change something like that? Again, i know it's a bit silly to get so worked up about this, but YouTube used to be THE page i visited, all the time. And i really enjoyed it. And i still want to enjoy it, god dammit. But this is just ruining my experience.

I've said it before, but I'm pretty sure Google and Facebook have made some kind of infernal pact with the Dark God Of Change for their success, all they have to do is feed Him with our outrage over their constant changing to fuel their unholy profit margins.

That said, I fail to see how anything that might temper the denizen's ability to make comments on youtube could be a bad thing...

if a mod sees this comment you can kiss your escapist account farewell. Admitting to using ad-block here is a big no-no. Just a heads up.
EDIT: I didn't realize this thread has gone onto another page.

I don't even give a shit. I use G+ because it is great. Integration? Yes please. Less spammy comments? Yes please.
Comments actually seem like proper conversations about the video instead of an unrelated thread of people posting spam or insults.

Meet Ed130. Ed130 gets up early in the morning, eats a well balanced meal and is an all around decent guy. He also knows how to respond to people's questions without feeling the need to act all condescending about it.

The question was already answered, thank you very much. Maybe you should have read the rest of the thread.

Someone sent me a message the other day, and I checked my inbox last night and saw it. Went to try to reply to it and his comment has no reply option. Nor does it have a thumbs up or down option. I even waded through the comments sorted by most recent all the way back two days to find where it originally occured and I still cant reply to it. WHY????

Also it tells me to sign in when I click the bell thing but the sign in link it gives does jack shit so I guess they don't want me using their feature?

Also why are they making the inbox harder and harder to find?

There are not many stupid people because there are not many people period. In the long gone times of Usenet, there were not many c*nts either, because all the people there were initiated and there was an exclusive attitude. If Google forces people to use Google+, most people will comply and G+ will become just as much of a mess as FB or Twitter, and then you can kiss your courtesy goodbye. Popularity always means more idiots.

More broadly speaking on the subject, it's a goddamn shame. The community was important on YT, the sense of meeting people and being able to communicate freely ; which meant, of course, abuse. But it was par for the course, and it was the best symbol of freedom : C*nts everywhere. Now G is just trying to make it a gallery, with no possibility of anything. They might even remove the ratings eventually. Until they restore the normal course of affairs, I'll stay out of it, we have lost something here. And yes, I'm a single bum and it doesn't mean a whole lot for that huge website, but screw it, it's between me, myself and I.

What? I have your thin on too (The "A-word" is blasphemous here), yet I still get bugs where the video just STOPS DLing or buffering at 7-15 seconds in, sometimes the video just doesn't play but the audio does, sometimes the video plays but the audio doesn't, half the time some video qualities just disable themselves at the start or at random times during the video so I'm forced to watch it in 360p and compare it to when I was watching it in 720p. Still get these problems after disabling your app too.

Do you have something I don't that just makes Youtube "not shit" or something?
Pretty sure your problems stem from your ISP not youtube. There is legitimately no complaint you can make against youtube which does not have an even nastier twin elsewhere on the net. Demonizing and slinging filth is the way of the internet however. Minor annoyances are death-sentences. Look at a WoW forum any given tuesday afternoon for a prime example, these people are told the servers will be down, since they cannot comprehend things are capable of going wrong, they all flip shit and start sounding suicidal.

To all folk saying youtube is shit: don't go there.
In theory yes, that would be the solution. In reality though, there's no competing video site which has anything like the variety of content that YouTube has, it has such an effective monopoly on the online video market that a boycott would only be feasible if one was willing to forgo watching a good deal of content. I for one find that while certain parts of the site are horrible to use, such as the profile and the comments section, the videos themselves more than make up for that. That doesn't mean we shouldn't complain about the parts which are crap though, especially those which were better prior to Google's updates.

Err...why?

No seriously, that just seems awfully random. Is it because of the ad revenue that the Escapist makes of ads and if it becomes known that (shock and terror) people use "the a-word" the companies that pay for the ads to be displayed doesn't want to sponsor the Escapist videos anymore? That's basically the only reason I can think of, but it still seems weird, seeming how this is the only forum I've seen that actually give warnings, notices and suspensions to people for admitting to using ad-block, no other website I've ever seen actually do this, even those who benefit atleast a 10 times more from ad revenue (thatguywiththeglasses, redlettermedia, twitch etc.)

And no, I don't use ad-block, precious mods, if your trigger-finger lies comfortably on the "ban"-button, but I still just find it extremely bizarre they are this totalitarian with ad-block.
I guess it's because if everyone used adblock, that would effectively remove a sizeable chunk of the Escapist's revenue.
(Ad revenue is generated per view, merely from the ad being displayed on the user's screen. NOT per click, like it was a few years ago.)

Presumably, by warning/suspending/banning people who admit to using it, the mods hope to scare people and dissuade others from using it.
That's my theory anyway.

I mean fuck, that shouldn't be a difficult thing to do, to center the stuff, but fuck me I guess
I think there's a Greasemonkey script out there to fix that, at least. Have a quick google around.
I have to use Google to fix a problem Google created?

Better yet, there's an extension that converts all youtube comments into strings of "Herpy derp herp."

Oh my god that's fucking fantastic. Thank you good sir.
I would also use a html5 video player for youtube.

... well grease me up and call me Willy. I went looking for the inbox a number of times but couldn't find it. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
I had to look it up on the internet as well. Glad to be of help. :p

So THAT'S where the inbox went.

Meh, I was just going to youtube.com/inbox to get into mine.
Three people I've apparently helped with a comment about how bad youtube is. xD As well, glad to be of help.

Err, I woke up yesterday at 15:30 NZDT (3:30pm +13GMT). The other two are correct (if only because junk food is really expensive), but I appreciate the compliment.

It would also be remiss of me not to mention the IceForce didn't realise that the thread had ticked over to a new page if the edit of his post is correct.

That's what happened, yeah.

The post I quoted at the bottom of my post, was at the top of the page those other two posts were on.
So really, all those guys needed to do was scroll up a bit, and they would've found their answer.

Page 3 didn't actually exist when I opened this thread, and obviously appeared in the time it took for me to type out my post. (Yes, it took me that long. I got distracted by something else.)

What? I [l]have[l/] would never use such a nefarious device(The "A-word" is blasphemous here), yet I still get bugs where the video just STOPS DLing or buffering at 7-15 seconds in, sometimes the video just doesn't play but the audio does, sometimes the video plays but the audio doesn't, half the time some video qualities just disable themselves at the start or at random times during the video so I'm forced to watch it in 360p and compare it to when I was watching it in 720p. Woah, overreacting a bit.
How do any of these come back to my ISP? I'm legitimately curious. There are times when it DOES work fine, but these come and go in stretches. If only the audio/video starts playing alone, I don't know how that could possibly be linked to anyone's ISP, but you seem to be an expert so please, do tell. Also, I don't know how Youtube automatically blocking off 1080p, 720p and 480p int he middle of a video could be anything but the shittiest design choice in the whole of humanity.

Also, while I've never touched WoW, this and that are two different things entirely. You're talking about a patch or maintenance, I'm talking about the thing not working for stretches at a time, all stemming from newer updates, none of which I have noticed have been fixed.

It is simply because Youtube has no challenger, competition. They can do whatever they want but it will still be the go to site for videos for at least 1 billion people.

I agree the changes have been useless and broke the system. But they are just trying to find their bearings. They should just allow there to be separated Google+ and Youtube system. They want to be google+ which isn't that good really.
The problem is, it's simply too difficult to step up to compete.

The amount of servers, bandwidth and computational power required is absolutely absurd. For reference, as "small" Google data center has around 45,000 servers in it. Some analysts have speculated Google has more servers than IBM, Apple, Intel, and Microsoft combined.

Quite frankly, if I wanted to start up a youtube competitor I couldn't do it. Even with 100 million dollars in investment I couldn't do it.
