It must be so fucking annoying to be around people who care so much about what OTHER PEOPLE have or have not seen. Relax. Not having seen Pulp Fiction isn't the same as not knowing who the president is, or why the sky is blue. It's up to them, people can and should have the freedom to not watch things without being harassed about it.

I have never seen Fight Club and have no real desire to. Pulp Fiction, yes I've seen that, but I don't find it interesting at all. It was "great" at one point, back when I was a teenager and giggled at things I didn't understand, but now that I've gotten older I find I don't like a lot of Tarantino's works. That's just how it goes, though.

Instead of saying "I have no desire watching it" you could state your reason.

To Topic: I only watched Pulp Fiction twice, i really didn't see what the fuzz was about it. The dialogs were funny, but overall i didn't find the characters or the plot that interesting.

I totally gasp when people tell me they haven't seen The Dark Knight.

So...

I recently got in a conversation with a newly acquainted friend of mine. A discussion that gradually transferred from video games to movies.

I made a reference to a Tyler Durden quote, but he didn't seem to get it. He had never seen Fight Club. Huh... I tried bringing up Old Boy, but he hadn't even heard of that movie. Fair enough, I suppose. But when I brought up Pulp Fiction, he hadn't even the slightest idea what the movie was about - not even a quote!

And thus: personal DVD-collection to the rescue! Now while I think Fight Club is a movie every (wo)man should see at least once in his/her life, I decided to hook him up with Pulp Fiction first. And guess what? He hated it! He actually called it flat-out boring and uninteresting!

Now, my question to you: have you ever met a man so void of modern cultural knowledge you just couldn't believe it?
(I mean, in the end, the fact that he hadn't seen the movies still baffled me more than the fact he thought Pulp Fiction sucked. In the end, people still have the right to have their own opinions, even if they don't make sense...)

Oh, and not surprisingly, he had also never seen A Clockwork Orange or The Godfather - though I've experienced more than once in my life, that there are more people who simply quote the movies instead of actually seeing them.

I still haven't seen The Godfather movies. There's a few others that are already canonized as CLASSIC but I can't think of them right now. A lot of Scorcese's stuff, come to thing of it. I've seen Taxi Driver, (most of) Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Bringing Out the Dead (SO underrated) Gangs of New York and The Departed. I haven't seen any of his Mob films save for Goodfellas.

Still trying to get my sister to watch Inception, which I got her last Christmas.

Some movies just don't click bro, it doesn't mean they're void of cultural knowledge like you say it. I didn't care for Raging Bull for example.

The fact that my friend didn't like it is just side info, it just baffled me he didn't know about the movie(s).

I've tried to watch, but never managed to stay awake through Dazed and Confused or The Big Lebowski. I get a lot of shit for that, because apparently they're awesome, but I could never get into them. But I've seen all the movies the OP mentioned, so *whew*, I'm safe.

There are so many "must see" movies that I haven't seen, yet I've seen an unbelievable amount of movies that no one cares about. For instance, I'm a huge Woody Allen fan and seen a lot of his movies but I haven't seen any of the Lord of the Rings films.

Hey now, I haven't seen it either. Then again, I hail from the frigid north, where nobody else has either, and the thing really doesn't have much cultural meaning.

I know what it's about and have worked out a close enough understanding of the thing, but I have never actually seen it. I don't think I even saw the physical movie in any format at any point.

And more on topic, I've had that a lot. Sometimes a bit of a downer when you realize there's a glaring hole the size of a train in your family's and friends' movie culture. I know a few who never saw Jurassic Park, for example. And although it's not as severe, I still consider it a failing that my Street Fighter -obsessed friend hasn't actually seen the Van Damme movie.
