I am and have been a part of each group. Ignorant, and yet have become at least moderately aware of some of the good movies with the help of some good friends. It always does bother me whenever I get the urge to say a reference to something I know none of my friends would get like Deliverance. Whether movies, D&D, anime, card games, comics, video games, a lot of it just happens to be where your interests lies. For as nerdy as I am in the above, I know I'll always be shamed by the knowledge of others in their fields of strength.

Anyway, I should probably get going and paddle faster. I hear banjos.

I don't see a lot of movies that are considered 'must see'. I don't want to come off as elitist. If a band or game I like becomes popular I'm glad (it was nice to for once talk about Fallout series without everyone going 'huh?') Just that if it is something everyone is like zomg over, then I feel it might not speak to me personally (esp some seem too 'guyish' for me). I'm a huge music/book person and could care less about TV/movies so that might also be reason.

Movies I haven't seen and have no interest in, but people are like YOU HAVE TO:

Pretty much anything by Pixar (not really into cg)
Harry Potter series (not even the books)
Godfather series
Spiderman series
Big Lebowski
Later star wars
Rambo series
pretty much any latest blockbuster unless it's kind of quirky or odd (ie eternal sunshine, pan's labrynth)

I saw the old star wars movies only one time each due to friends being like omgosh you MUST and eh.. they're okay, but not for me and I haven't seen them again. I rarely rewatch anything anyway.

Also I don't recognize actors and actresses, someone is like let's watch this movie, it has so-and-so.... I'm like who? I'd rather see the movie if plot sounds interesting rather than because it has someone famous in it.

I've never seen Pulp Fiction. I know a lot of people shocked by this. To be honest, I'm not a huge Tarantino fan, although the opening scene of Inglourious Basterds was, well, glorious.
There are tons of movies I've never seen though. I'm so into gaming and music, that I really don't leave much time for movies once you factor in things such as school and socializing (although I could probably get rid of that...).
I want to get into reading again too... *sigh*

"You ain't seen Bad Boys II?"

The first thing that came to my mind, really.

OT: A friend of mine refuses to watch any 'cult classic' films. This includes The Matrix, Airplane!, Wizard of Oz for some bizarre reason, any of the Star Wars films, Fight Club and the list goes on. I can't help but wonder why...
They won't see Airplane!?(I guess that should be read as a question)I say you should knock some sense into them.

I'll be honest, I think a part of me died when they told me. I mean surely they can't be serious?!
...
I mean if they'd responded with "I am serious and don't call me Shirley" there could've been some compromise!

I just don't understand how they could be doing that intentionally. It...frightens me.

He is a poor, angry man.
I would suggest abducting him and making him watch it, but...that might be viewed as a bit on the extreme side.

I have not seen Avatar, and my brother was like, "What?! How could you possibly not see that movie? That movie is more like an experience..." and some other nonsense.

But in all fairness, I've not stepped foot in a movie theater in 4 years.

That movie is old as fuck. Why would you want to watch it?
So... because a movie is old it is automatically unwatchable?

wat
Because it's outdated. Just because it's a classic doesn't mean it's timeless.

Fight Club and Pulp Fiction are both simplistic, braindead action films. I don?t see why anyone would want to include these on a list of classic must-see movies.
You MUST be trolling.

Not everything has to be a 'The Seventh Seal' or 'Citizen Kane' to be a cult movie you know. (although it wouldn't hurt to go and see them...)
Now, that is actually my opinion. I never really liked Fight Club for example. And I don't see why anyone would. Too the best of my knowledge, the movie has gotten a pretty mediocre critical reception. (no offense)

Never seen The Godfather. People seem surprised by this.

Also never seen Porky's II. Or the first one, for that matter.

Instead of saying "I have no desire watching it" you could state your reason.
Having no desire to watch a movie should be reason enough in this case. Unless you have a reason for wanting me to go deeper than that. In which case, the only thing I can come up with is "It's not on my list of movies to see before I die." Which still equates to having no desire to see it.

I've never seen Pulp Fiction, The Godfather, Toy Story 3 (yet), Fight Club or Scarface.

I'll see them in my own sweet time. No, I will not see it right now, this minute. I know the movies are there and I'll get to them.

So...

I recently got in a conversation with a newly acquainted friend of mine. A discussion that gradually transferred from video games to movies.

I made a reference to a Tyler Durden quote, but he didn't seem to get it. He had never seen Fight Club. Huh... I tried bringing up Old Boy, but he hadn't even heard of that movie. Fair enough, I suppose. But when I brought up Pulp Fiction, he hadn't even the slightest idea what the movie was about - not even a quote!

And thus: personal DVD-collection to the rescue! Now while I think Fight Club is a movie every (wo)man should see at least once in his/her life, I decided to hook him up with Pulp Fiction first. And guess what? He hated it! He actually called it flat-out boring and uninteresting!

Now, my question to you: have you ever met a man so void of modern cultural knowledge you just couldn't believe it?
(I mean, in the end, the fact that he hadn't seen the movies still baffled me more than the fact he thought Pulp Fiction sucked. In the end, people still have the right to have their own opinions, even if they don't make sense...)

Oh, and not surprisingly, he had also never seen A Clockwork Orange or The Godfather - though I've experienced more than once in my life, that there are more people who simply quote the movies instead of actually seeing them.
What the fuck is "Old Boy"? And I haven't seen seen Pulp Fiction, Clockwork Orange, or Godfather, either.

I've seen Fight Club, though. One of 7 movies that I've ever seen that I would watch again on my own time.

If you haven't noticed, I don't care about movies in general.

I'm kinda like your friend. I don't watch every "Excellent" movie ever, would you believe that I hated Team America? I've never seen Pulp Fiction either
