Zero Punctuation: Kinect

To be completely honest, even though I spent a shitload of money on the whole Playstation Move thing (yes, I know this topic is about Kinect but they're pretty much the same thing), I found Child of Eden far easier to play with a regular old controller. I'm guessing it's probably more to do with the slippery Move controls than my muscle memory playing Rez. Also because I live in a small fucking apartment.

[sub]Still, Yahtzee mentioned my two favorite games. Yay.[/sub]

To quote your Lords of Shadows review, Yahtzee, this Kinect review is "attempting to jump on the bandwagon so late that the band has completed three sold out world tours and sold their wagon to a scrap dealer." You should've ripped this piece of gaming abortion the moment it came out, man. But oh well, better to shit on it late than to shit on it never. XD
He was probably waiting for the wave of shovelware to rush through so that he could review something actually worth reviewing. He can't really find much to talk about from Kinectimals or Kinect Sports when he's already reviewed identical games recently.

To bad he didn't do The Gunstringer. It has fairly simple movements and you can sitdown while playing it.
It kinda defeats the purpose of the Kinect as a new type of controller, doesn't it? Instead of working properly on select games, it should have, to quote a certain meme, WORK PROPERLY ON ALL THE GAMES. XD

It's a new technology it needs time to test itself and secondly I've played enough games to know that some games don't even work with a regular controller.

Hoping on the brand wagon, I ask Yahtzee why, why? Why are you reviewing a console everybody already knows sucks. God, that piece of shit is for old people and young children. Bad Yahtzee, bad.

Indeed I agree with your last thought about the use of Kinect. It will never be any good for games unless you have an easy way of moving around.
try using it from a wheelchair!
Microsoft said before launch that one of the fetures it was proudest of was it's ability to let everyone play, including those with physical difficulties.

So, Yahtzee wants to see a game that uses the Kinect for unimportant things while using a controller for movement, attacking, etc. does he?

WELL BEHOLD!

I would have enjoyed this video a whole lot more if it didn't keep glitching on me

I agree with yahtzee I could possibly justify having a connect if it was used to give instructions to a game. Kind of like the way DS's touch screen is used.

I cracked up at the "Well hello there, Counselor Troi" wanking scene (though I'm more of a Dr. Crusher fan myself).
Yeah, about that. Uh.... source?
It's from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Deanna Troi is the psychiatric counselor for the Enterprise.
While she does do some actual counseling from time to time, her character's primarily there for fanservice. Personally, I always thought Dr. Crusher was more attractive:
I must admit though, she has a pretty unfortunate last name for her profession.
No... no... you totally missed the point. I'm relatively sure he wasn't wanking to Star Trek the Next Generation. I'm guessing it was TNG themed pr0n.

Then again maybe he was just waking to TNG. Making it sad and... sad.

Now i guess that after finishing all the FPS of this year he may try the Gunstringer for the Kinect or Arkam City to alleviate the pain of dull-generic-FPS.

Speaking of that, if i recall correctly he does have some free time after the new year for himself so maybe he will try the FPS he listed in the Extra Punctuation Shooters of Yore or another old title to show how can you make a serious story without draining the fun out of it.

wow well I'm quite surprised by his response haha funny and he makes some darn good points
(I've actually been considering getting a new 360 Slim with the Kinect)

also I think the Escapist should have an episode where we get to see Yahtzee play Dance Central :D

Was hoping for Dark Souls but I imagine it would very similiar to the Demon's Soul review.
He wasn't as harsh on the kinnect as I would imagine though.
Oh well, Batman:AC review next week should be funny hopefully.

When Yahtzee mentioned "Gamers games", I realized there really aren't any for the Kinect. There has been a mighty drought when it comes to triple A titles.

That being said, those who are a little computer savvy can use the Kinect to play any modern PC game of their liking.

Using the publicly available program FAAST, users can map key-strokes to gestures, allowing them to control games using Kinect.

As an example, here is a video where Kinect is used to play Bulletstorm.

Sigh. That's what I was hoping for when I was shocked to hear he actually bought a Kinect. DC is actually a good game, too... For me, DC (and the upcoming DC2) makes the Kinect a very worthy purchase.

"I don't know if you've ever tried standing off balance for however long it takes to drive a very slow forklift down a narrow corridor..."

The forklifts at work are standing ones... and you have to stand on a peddle in order to turn off the safety an drive... So Kinect is like my work, essentially.
You operate forklifts on one leg? o-o

Good to see that he gave it a go. Agree about the games being awkward and that it does still have potential.

Good, unexpected and witty review :)
