I actually agree with yahtzee compltely in his review. For the most part I never jugde a game on based on other peoples review or movies at that because for the most part hmm let me think there taste and idea of a great game might be completly diffrent then yours! I actually enjoy his critics not just for his animations but because he does bring up valid points on many games both flaws and points of praise. He though it was a wonderful idea for a fight to be held where mario cold beat peach senseless for me that was link and zelda but for the most part yea the unlocking charcters part sucked. For the past games you unlocked mostly by doing events an then fighting with friends for so long an then you get someone. this one you kinda trailed along the longgg story mode until you find someone random and they joined you. don't get me wrong I like the story mode movies and concept but the same old enimies and repeating the same level two to three times kinda got to me after a while. All in yahtzee brings his own unique kind of criticing to the table even his animations he doesn't use a score board which I appericate halo was given a 9 out of ten on many score boards I probaly would have given a 4 that's my opion. but he choices to list say and show which is rare why he likes or dislikes it in his review which animaions it suppose to make you laugh but he also show's his valid points. But to all of you who probaly rant on and on about how he's dumb or whichever here's a wonderfu idea go to accounts hit delete and stop wacthing his reviews

To be honest, Yahtzee wouldn't have got half the complaints about his review of SSBB if he:

1) Didn't review it in the first place because he didn't want to.
2) Found some actual faults in the game instead of pathetically making some non-existant ones up.
3) Actually played the damn game for more than one drunken night.

I can name a few faults in SSBB, but unlike Yahtzee's complaints, mine are legitimate and actually exist, and I haven't even played the sodding game. So this latest Zero Punctuation was basically him trying to defend himself against dozens of people who were angry at him for giving SSBB not just a bad review, but a bad review highlighting non-existant faults, and personally, I don't blame those people one bit.
Yahtzee, (being the game reviewer we all know he is and wants to be) undoubtedly played the game for more then one night. He just happened to be using it as an example. People tend to forget that everyone has the right to not like something, but just as many people forget that others have the right TO like something.

Yahtzee obviously didn't like SSBB (which I did) and just as obviously didn't like Halo 3 (which I also did). On both forums, people spent a few good days (or two weeks in the former's case) going back and forth calling the other fanboys. While they have the right to do this, it doesn't make it any less annoying for those who are actually here to "Discuss" ZP.

Though in all honesty, I can't for the life of me understand why we need to discuss this. It's not like Yahtzee have deep hidden messages, or is leading us on till "next weeks exciting adventure". It's just a review, something just as easily discusses over the phone, or on an Email/Chatroom, or a PM.

It seems the only thing this is here for is to praise Yahtzee (which I suppose can be construed as a legitimate reason) or to yell at passersby (which seems to happen most often).

Although I wish I could have seen a game get skewered on the twin blades of wit and cynicism, this video still was funny and enlightening as usual. Yahztee's points were valid. While he has his own opinions on them - such as in Mass Effect - he tries to appraise games fairly and will admit that someone else might enjoy a given game when he might not. I've wondered why Yahtzee often kowtows to the request like he does (he'd admitted several times in the past the collective bitching pisses him off), but the appeal professionalism over indulgence is a legitimate defense.

While seeing him review interesting and diverse game titles as his tastes would see fit would be neat, appealing to the Escapist's audience now and then might be a good way to boost the site's hits and keep the Zero Punctuation feature from stagnating. Yahtzee's attitudes towards numerical ratings is also appreciated. A numerical value might be worthwhile for evaluating averages or calculating standard deviations, but the appraisal of video games is an art rather than a science.

What parts of the game make it enjoyable, innovative, appealing, intelligent? Do you give a shit when Alyx Vance lies comatose? Do you get frustrated when both of Fable's endings are essentially the same bloody title card with different shading and a slightly tweaked voiceover? X out of Y stars, thumbs up or cackling imps of manic glee don't adequately express the attitudes a player would build while playing.

Numerical reviews work best for at-a-glance decision-making ("Should I take my girlfriend to see Iron Man after we head out for the night?") but hen faced with the commitment for buying the game (a fairly expensive endeavor) an intelligent consumer should do more then act like a computer program that sets the .buy|Game value to TRUE when reviewer-rating >= 8.

Overall, I salute Yahtzee for responding in kind to the grating moans of people who don't think their responses out and impulse-send their comments. Kick more ass, yahtzee! We may yet turn the tide on the stupid epidemic!

Whats wrong with a proper unlock system? Beat the game with one character to unlock the next one, or combinations of characters?
Clear Classic Mode with 10 Characters to unlock sonic.
clear classic mode under 12 minutes to unlock captain falcon
fight 5 brawls to unlock ness
fight 15 brawls on shadow mosses to unlock snake
fight 22 brawls to unlock luigi
clear classic mode under normal difficulty with zelda or under hard difficulty with link to unlock ganondorf
etc, etc, etc...

I see some porper unlock system here, if you ask me...
I was thinking more of somthing that makes sense, stuff like "complete the game with mario & luigi to unlock peach"

as opposed to "BEAT IT 100000000 TIMES TO GET SOMEONE YOU EXPECTED TO BE THERE FROM THE START"

Ahh... this is horrible. I've probably been a nintendo fanboy all my life, but i do my best not to bring it out. I'm also an european so i really haven't gotten the chance to play SSBB myself. I was disappointed with the way Yahtzee reviewed the game at first not because I have to franticly defend my consumer choices to random people on the internet, but because I really enjoyed SSBM and hoped that the newest installation of the series would also bring more of the same gaming-goodness and convince the toughest gamereviewiever on the interwebs. Well this did'nt happen, but I have to say I even managed to get over my fanboyerism and have a good laugh from this review (Was it a review? I'm not sure.).
All I am trying to say is was this really nescesary? I mean the reason I didn't post my whining sooner on the comment thread of epic proportions was that I thought that the comments were just something for people to whine in and no-one (at least not Yahtzee) would not be reading. I suppose I presumed that Yahtzee was a totally independant force of nature that could not be controlled by mere mortals. It turns out Yahtzee is just as woulnerable to criticism as the games he reviews.

And if someone somewhere someday is feeling the urge to correct my english grammar I just have to mention that I am not a native english speaker so no goddamn wonder I don't write like Edgard FUCKING Alan Poe. Let's see how well you write complex sentences in Finnish.
Haistakaa paska.

Although this week's Zero Punctuation was a right old laugh (probably the funniest yet), it didn't look at the proper complaints. But then again, the whole point of this was to smack fanboys in the face which it did a good and hilarious job of.

Whoo insulting the tards! Go Yahtzee!

and yeah it's the new generation of gamers kinda do suck balls a little I mean there are people who played games all their life, then theres people who can't game for crap and think since they can beat the samey cartoony crap games Nintendo seems to spew out on a daily basis, they are far supirior to 'real' gamers (Feh Angery Nerd = me)and thus they spam you to death with the most enjoyable hate mail, whenever you say what most good gamers are thinking

Pardon my poor Grammer.
"There's people who played games all their life, and then there's..." HAHAHA.
Do you have any idea how stupid that sounds?

how now you nerds can't quote stuff from this page. Because quite frankly that's all you do, quote qoute qoute quote. If somebody says something you don't like just leave it, don't start some gay quoting arguement. So i'm happy for stretching the page. (i was also bored when i did it and still am)
I don't usually flame people online, not in a harsh way, but...

Shut up, you blockhead twat. No-one cares for your bollocks, and even less for your bollocks-whining.

Haha, I loved the "I'm not a nintendo fanboy" bit, I know quite a handful of people that are just like it. Top notch, and the only one I've felt the need to post a reply to. Great job.
Also, if a user is going to make fun of people for having poor grammar, the user needs to make sure that his or her own grammar is correct in the post. Otherwise, he or she is considered a hypocrite and/or a jackass.

If we leave it how can we express our opinions across, to said person. Even so, quotes are a way to actually discuss something to the right person rather than cause confusion, when the topic is getting loads of people posting.

then you have:
Clear Classic Mode with 10 Characters to unlock sonic.
clear classic mode under 12 minutes to unlock captain falcon
clear classic mode under normal difficulty with zelda or under hard difficulty with link to unlock ganondorf
beat the 100-multiman melee to unlock falco

To the "100000000 times" thing:
1 life brawl, enemy handicap at 300%, AI set to piece of cake, start. Enjoy your unlock rampage!

And you have at least 3 ways to unlock the characters: beat subspace emisary and let x character join to your group , beat x number of brawls or do x thing.

I don't see people complaining about some timesplitters characters which are locked from the start...

The point I made about not being able to play more than one or two hours at a time, I can't really explain. After completing a couple of missions and one or two side things like a date or billiards with Roman, I feel like I've played enough for that session. I'm not really bored or anything, it's more like I'm tired.

I know, that sounded confusing. I said I couldn't explain it.
Since you asked what he didn't like about GTA IV, and he replied with this - I'll just express my view on this. I found that hours passed quickly while playing GTA IV.

Definately a title you should pick up, or at least rent, and then pick up. Arguably the best xbox 360 title.
