Controlling the aiming cursor is done with the Wiimote, not the gamepad (which is used for giving long distance marching orders to your commanders) but I guess Yahtzee's Wiimotephobia is still in effect. I suppose his hate of RTS will also prevent any Dragon Commander reviews.
Or maybe the fact that Nintendo expects you to use the Gamepad, or at least heavily implied that they did by devoting roughly half the system's hardware budget to making it and not bundling a Wiimote with the system.

It's actually rather ironic that a game on this system controls better with its predecessor's controller. It's almost as if the thing were actually useful and innovative and the other thing were a pointless gimmick trying desperately to make lighting strike twice.

I'm sorry but the references to the Battle of Somme were highly distressing to me. The Battle of Somme is one of the bloodiest battles in human history, where over a million men were wounded or killed. It makes me sick that such a thing was made light of, and I request that it be changed.

I can't in good conscience continue watching Zero Punctuation after that. It made me feel uneasy, and I'm ashamed Mr Croshaw brought it up.
Ahahaha, I love this. We should crusade to get some little detail changed in every video from now on.

Uhh... Why didn't Yahtzee bother to check out the other control schemes? Wii remote + Nunchuck is much more intuitive than the GamePad.
Two things to consider, one's his own personal taste, the other an actual criticism.

For himself, it's probably because he hates the WiiMote with a passion. Most everyone, including myself, cannot stand motion controls, and I suspect that with Yahtzee it would mean he probably wouldn't be able to go through as much of the game as he did.

The other, however, can be considered a criticism of the game. If we assume the gamepad is the default option, we would then have to assume that the default option is the one that the developers assumed most people would want to play with. If that default option, even if there are better options available, is not incredibly useful for what you want to do, that in itself would be a criticism of the state of mind the developers were in, because the assumption would be that they didn't really think about what the best option for play would be, and instead went with what they assumed would be the best. Another thing to consider is this: what does it say about a game, a game for the WiiU, if it plays better using a non-WiiU controller? It's sort of the same thing with Twilight Princess, in which both came out for the Wii and Gamecube, but the Gamecube version, or even the Wii version with a Gamecube controller, played better than with the WiiMote. It was one of those things that said a lot about the controller that even Nintendo's games played better with older controllers. If we assume that the WiiMote/Nunchuck combination is a better control scheme than the controller that is supposed to be the selling point of the WiiU, that says a lot about the use of the gamepad.

EDIT: Also, where does Yahtzee come off thinking that having a flower on your head means your being controlled by a mindless parasite? I have lived my whole life with flowers in my hair and on my head, and for him to basically say I'm being controlled by parasites is an attack on my basic human rights! Offended? There isn't a word strong enough to express my offense! How dare you let this stuff through, huh? You should be ashamed of yourself, and I expect an apology post-haste!

You know, I could already sense the amount posters waiting behind the bleachers with baseball bats for this Zero Punctuation, aching to get a crack at Yahtzee.
Heh, yeah. Ah well, at least nobody is getting banned for just posting "First!" like they used to.

Nineteenth!

"Hey Croshaw, we gonna gitcha for apologizin' for that joke, ya hear!"

This isn't a crusade, this is common decency. Yahtzee should have realized that making a jokes around such a big issue would result in offense and backlash. I personally think that Yahtzee should consider making his "own" "choice" and changing the joke to something less offensive like a holocaust joke.

Yeah, Pikmin is one of my favorite Nintendo series', but I always felt a little offput by just how incessantly violent it is. I remember the first time I played it and some of my Pikmin died. I felt awful. This is even more off-putting when you think about how Japan's advertisers accentuate the cuteness of the Pikmin much harder than we do.

It's the most adorable game about the harsh and cruel realities of nature you'll ever play.

I take it you didn't see the comments section of last weeks episode?
Prepare your inbox, you're gonna get a lot of quotes like that.

There's still plenty of people out of the loop, apparently.

I must admit I can't tell if you're serious about this or not. Pretty good job there.

In the off-chance that you are, using something bad as a point of comparison isn't as offensive as you make it out to be. Hiroshima is frequently used like that and nobody bats an eyelash.

Pretty damn funny episode, I don't have any interest in picking Pikman up though, so I still eagerly wait the review for Sain'ts Row 4: The fourth (I really have no interest in that damn not-XCom game either).
I was looking forward to a review of Splinter Cell Blacklist, but it looks like he's not doing that one for a couple of weeks at least. :(

Loved the review

I enjoyed the first two Pikmin games, so this one being pretty much the same isn't exactly a point against it. That said, the complete misfire on input design (not using the WiiPad to direct the Pikmin) does put a sour taste in my mouth; might be a nitpick, sure, but controls are an integral part of design

Wait, we're being serious now? It's fo-realz time?

We've noticed that the "offended party" goes by the handle "Genocidicles", right?

Is he serious? You can't use the touch screen ? Isn't that like making a PS3 shooter where you aim with the d-pad?

I wonder if there's any Germans who will find the "German scat porn" tidbit offensive and kick up a ruckus over it.

Curious. For anyone that's played the earlier games, was this version all that much harder to control?

It sounded like they changed the control mechanics drastically from the first two, and while it was never exactly pinpoint accuracy, it was fairly straightforward.
Well if you use the Wii Remote Plus and nunchuck it has the best and most precise controls of the series.
Can't you just use the pro controller and dispense with the shitty motion controls altogether? Because if you can I may just buy a WiiU for this.

Yahtzee, this is one of your funniest videos yet! Had me laughing from start (getting tongue-tied about Pikmin's title) to finish (banishing video game nerds to the darkness)! As for that Battle of the Somme crack, I can see how people would be offended, but it's not a joke on the battle itself; it was meant to be a comparison to point out how unexpectedly violent Yahtzee found it. Although if the flowers on the Pikmins' heads WERE body-controlling parasites, that would explain how dumb they are.

Yahtzee, being german i'm offended by your reference to german scatporn.

Not only does ignore all the other varieties of hardcore fetish porn my great country produces, it also completely disregards the high quality scatporn made by other countries which i'm sure is going to offend shit fetishists from all over the world. I demand that you change it to something less inflammatory until next week otherwise i'm afraid i'm going to have to complain on the internet and pretend that anyone cares for my hurt feelings!
Here I thought German cornered the market on scat porn. I thought you'd be flattered. Then again, I heard Holland and Scandinavia have WAY more sick and twisted stuff! I'm talking shit that would turn your hair white!

And as a survivor of the great guinea-pig massacre of 2009, I demand you change your depiction of guinea pigs as "innocent" creatures in that one throwaway joke, for they massacred many of us and left me heavily traumatized and having to see a guinea pig not only triggered these memories again, but having to endure being told that they are "innocent" creatures is just adding insult to injury.

That joke at the end about throwing vegetables I am just gonna wait for the uproar from the coma patient community.

Well you're damn right about that.
As someone who is currently in a deep coma, I expect an official apology from Mr Croshaw. Him making fun of my lifestyle choices is unacceptable and I shall piss through his mailslot if he does not issue a formal apopology and make a considerable donation to our cause.
The Great Guinea Pig Massacre? So those two South Park episodes were based on real events?
