OK - if this one gets 700 comments.. then Yahtzee shouldn't be allowed to review GTAIV...it would destroy escapists bandwidth.

I was going to say something insulting to "Joined to vote Valve," but wasn't exactly sure what he/she was referencing and therefore can't really state an argument, other than his/her lack of clarity, which has no importance to this topic.

But what I wanted to put more emphasis on was how well posts 752-573 (sorry, I'm too lazy/stupid to quote) describe my opinion. Unless I read something wrong. And, according to Smash Dojo, which probably tells all in this subject, Sonic is unlocked via ONLY the following methods. And yes, each human adds to the time counter, so Valve-Voter guy was right here.
? Play 300 brawls
? Beat Classic mode with 10 different characters
? Play in brawls for 10 hours
? Get Sonic to join your party in The Subspace Emissary

Now lets move on to the next SSBB-related subject that will make people want to murder each other. :)

This has nearly taken other the Zombie Role Play. And thats saying something. I don't think the Escapist will let him review GTA4 unless he gives it a ten out of five due to the fear of the website exploding.

I dunno...I think there might be more SSBB enthusiasts/fanboys/etc. than GTA4 ones...
It isn't as nerdy a game as SSBB is, so the fanbase is less likely to care.

Now if you want to see the site come down, I'd go with a WoW review. I'm not ashamed to say I'd enjoy that game being torn to pieces. Then again, everyone already knows that game sucks, so I guess not.

Everyone needs to get their panties out of a bunch and stop complaining about a video-game review

Maybe Yahtzee could do Wrath of the Lich(sp?) King when it comes out. Then again, if one can't take 10 ****-gargling hours to unlock Sonic (I know I wouldn't), trying to play WoW would lead to rigomortis.

I've also noticed that GTA is the one game where you are "allowed" to be fanboyish about..

Halo? No, that is over-rated dood.

SSBB "OMG ITS JUST A FAITING GAME MAN CALM DOWN!"

GTA IV "OMG IT HAS A FOUR AT THE END OF IT HOLY CRAP, I MEAN, IT'S GTA MAN, 'NUFF SAID!"

The part of this review I most appreciated was when he talked about how all the action was blocked by the particle effects every freaking attack incurs. This has started happening to a LOT of games lately. I do mean a LOT. Action games, adventure games, RPG's -- doesn't really matter what genre, it's fallen prey to this, and I'm SICK OF IT!!! Thanks, Yahtzee!
(and yeah, I registered just to say this, I just agree with it that much)

I'm sure this post is going to be lost in the massive shitstorm of Nintendo fanboys (and equally as pathetic, anti-nintendofanboys) but I have to say one thing that I hope eventually gets to Yahtzee.

This is about the third time (or so) that you have reviewed a game that people were constantly nagging you about. Don't you see the cycle you are creating for yourself? You're encourging them to keep doing it! In fact, I'm sure the next fanboy obsessed game to come out you're going to have even MORE spam about it.

Then again, I'm not sure what's worse... the fact that you're encouraging them, or the fact that they haven't caught on that when you NAG Yahtzee to review a game, he's likely going to fucking hate it. I'm sure you know just as well as I do, their intentions when they send in these requests. They want you to praise it like some holy grail of the new era... never does happen.

So I say... do what you want, that is... unless that's throwing some more meat into the lion's pen. Let them starve, and make their own goddamn review videos on YouTube (As long as it doesn't consist of them wanking off to their television screen.)

Eventually they'll leave you alone... and in the end, we can all be happy hearing reviews similar to those in the "early days" (Ugh, I can't believe I'm using that phrase, it's not like it's been more than a few months.)

Most people who joined this site came from yahtzee, either to agree or disagree, so no surprise.

Also, he's mentioned this before about other games, "particle effects and bloom lighting" are usually brought up a lot, whether he says it or writes it at the end.

I think his review was very accurate cause I can't and will never see the "depth" behind Smash Bros. Also totally unrelated but also related, hope I don't get banned but this is related, hot off the presses....off my computer Zero Punctuation Wallpaper get it while its hot!

Given the perfect scores GTA4 is getting, if Yahtzee bags it out, the internet will die

i don't think i could resist the temptation if i were in his position.

Oh good, holy lord in heaven.

It's called COMEDY for the love of God!!!!!

Humour, you know, like ha ha ha, that was rather funny and so on? Is that not what Yahtzee is about, making us laugh with his witty, cutting reviews, you know, HIS JOB?! THE REASON HE'S GOTTEN SUCH FAME IS BEACUSE IT'S FUNNY.

I LOVED SSBB, and I LOVED this review, because it made me laugh, and anyone, ANYONE who got "offended" is a fucking idiot.

IT'S A GAME. Jesus CHRIST.
Hey, don't get me wrong. I'm a longtime Yahtzee fan, and this is far from the first time he has given a negative review to a franchise I like. Case in point: Resident Evil. One of my favorite franchises ever, Yahtzee clearly isn't a fan. That's okay. RE isn't for everyone, and I totally see where he's coming from on some of the things he said about it. He has also made a great deal of reviews that I completely agree with him on.

This one is different because he isn't giving the game a fair shake and he isn't backing up his statements with fact.

Oh, and as far as people who "got offended by it being fucking idiots," well that was probably because he pretty much came right out and said "this game is stupid, and if you like it you are stupid." Actually, I think his exact wording was "jibbering fanboy twats," or something close to it. So, yes, I was mildly offended... because he was directly insulting me. That's kind of the textbook definition of being offended. Negative reviews are fine, but when you start directly stating that a person is stupid for their tastes in games (something that members of gaming culture are notoriously bad about) that's when you've crossed the line.

Heaven knows I'm not trying to start a flame war here, geez. I'm just trying to make sure the other side of the coin is seen.
Nah, I'm not a hate mail/flamey sort of poster, but whatever. Opinions are opinions, 'nuff said. I wasn't talking to you directly, I just thought it was ridiculous the amount of posts that cameto flame/support Yahtzee for this.

But seriously, I honestly, considering all Yahtzee's game reviews, only think that he does these for the sole reason of comedy and nothing more. It's like getting offended by jokes. Example, I'm a blonde, and people think I get offended by blonde jokes. But I don't, because it's COMEDY. Regardless if it's taking a stab at me or not, it's still funny.

If you didn't find it funny, maybe you need to lighten up. God knows he wouldn't get as much hatemail if he, perhaps, made a spiteful comment towards women/race/disabled people. Oh wait, HE DID and honestly, people laughed. I laughed.

BECAUSE IT WAS FUNNY

'Gibbering fanboy twats' = those legions of SSBB fans, who, when insulted, will generate almost 800 posts, hundreds more than when Yahtzee offends any other fanbase

yes, i think gibbering suits nicely, 'twats' perhaps to far

Hm... seems like things like anti-fanboys do exist. That's a bit annoying.

Yeah, Brawl has flaws, but for people who appreciate the spectacle of playing and the shoutouts to nostalgia and obscurity, things like, repetitive adventure mode or featuring unlockable characters, seem like nitpicking really.

Which Yahtzee is known for. He nitpicks. He complains in a funny way. Due to being forced to review this game, he's pretty much complaining about a game he doesn't like. The fact that any praise came out of his mouth is amazing.

And the last comment was the joke featured in like, every single ZeroPunctuation review. A mean potshot at certain members of society.

Heh. To me it seems people are only offended cause before, Yahtzee only did this sort of thing to games these people didn't care for.

Anyway, love the game, love the review. It would be nice if people critiquing ZeroPunctuation or telling how much Brawl is overrated would stop.

Heh, apparently, I'm both a fanboy of ZeroPunctuation and Brawl.

Dang, I was hoping he'd tell us who the fuck Marth is, because even I don't know.
Marth is from the little-known Nintendo series Fire Emblem, which is amazingly popular in Japan but only has about three titles in America. One of my friends is a Fire Emblem fan.

On a critical note, I like Yahtzee's reviews, as well as his humor, but he has a tendency to fall back onto one or two points. His arguments are backed up, yes, but he doesn't really say anything good about games he reviews nowadays. Anything resembling a redeeming point is just a feint so that he can rape it some more. It's funny, sure, but in lieu of a well-balanced Pro/Con review we wind up with the following:

Opening Credits
Witty Joke
*****
Gripe
Witty Joke
Rant
Gripe
Witty Joke
Rant
*****
Witty Joke
End Credits

Granted, he has done some good 'true' reviews in the past, but he's been straying farther and farther from his original style recently.

As a final note, I liked Brawl. Once you finish the decent (albeit repetitive) Story Mode, it's great for inviting friends over and pissing them off. That and I'm a big Star Fox fan.
