Nice to see him review a PC game for once (last one he did I think was L4D.) I played Sims 1 and 2 and I have to say that EA's habit of loading people down with DLC and expansion packs is starting to wear a little thin. I understand the monetary incentive behind doing so, and that releasing new add-ons helps keep the games "fresh," but I think its about time they start bundling Sims "staples" into the new numeric releases. I mean pets have been around since the Sims 1 (via expansion) and having to wait 2+ years (if EA's track record holds up) for a gameplay mechanic that has been around since late 2002 and having to pay for it AGAIN really rubs me the wrong way.

Overall a decent review. I look forward to his Ghostbusters review, although I have a feeling that he's not going to be a big fan of it.

I noticed it too!
Weirdly, I think his vocie sounds better for it.
Since it is winter in Oz, I assume he has got a cold...being that is well....cold :)

Also I found it very funny, it reminded me of Eminem's new album, sick and twisted but funny

Well, the line of commentary about women was expected and sort of on the money given that most of the people who play The Sims *ARE* women, and it seems to have evolved around those sensibilities. It's even gotten to the point that people have talked about being indirectly insulted by game store employees if they are a guy and buy a copy.

It's amusing I guess because it's a woman's game trying to make pretensions of being directed at everyone despite the target audience. With something like "Barbie Horse Adventures" you'd expect it a bit more.

"Sims" and the Paranormal romance genere, the current recreational stomping grounds of the modern woman. :)

Predictable material aside (he's just funnier in saying what everyone else was), he did seem a bit hoarse. All I can say is "Thank you Yahtzee". ZP is one of the things that I look forward to, and I'm glad even if he wasn't feeling well that he still took the time to entertain us.

As far as the comments about being surprised about what game he chose to review, I'd point out that "Red Faction: Gueriella", and "The Conduit" both advertised here on The Escapist. RFG even going so far as to get it's own badge for our accounts (which I never obtained).

Going back to Yahtzee's old comment about EVE "being a challenge since they advertise here on The Escapist", I can easily see how games that advertise here would not want to be reviewed by Yahtzee, and might take their business elsewhere.

I do not know exactly how the EVE Online thing played out after that, but I would imagine the guys who pay Yahtzee are keeping him on a fairly tight lease, and effort is being made to avoid a fiasco like the one that got a certain famous reviewed kicked for blasting "Kane and Lynch".

No I can't spell, and yes I know my english is horrible.

once again spot on

i wanted my damn hot tub and pool table =/...there are a few lacking ''game'' aspects in this but then that might because its trying to be to realistic and no add on packs......it took me 2 days to get bored of it.

Excellent review. One of his best yet, I'd say. I especially liked the part where he started explaining why The Sims was the ultimate evil game. Good stuff.

I did when I had the game (Sims 2), played it be torturing them... its the only fun you get otherwise you might aswell not be playing a game and doing your routine, at least then you're doing it for yourself.

I will not be buying this one.

BTW whats with the barrage of first posts that have like 5 words in them? Its not an accomplishment in ANY sense...
You try convincing them of that, its them that put me off joining for so long been a fan of yatzee for two years, on topic im going to avoid the sims three and stick to my sims 2, seems better in every wat.

Damn that was a lot of vagina jokes...

Good review anyway, but... That 'blood striked spam sandwich' thing will probably haunt my dreams for years to come.

I'm sad now. I feel like I've wasted my life.
Technically, any game that completely recreates real life is a waste of time, as you can do the exact same thing, without spending $60. Also the sims is completely single player, so your ability to interact with others and show how *great* your house/sims/whatever are doesn't really exist.

Great review like always, the sims is one of the most evil games in existence.

I think I collapsed in dismay when I heard about Sims 3. Thank you Yahtzee for pointing out the underlying evil that it really is.

The part where he talks about the content that isn't in this installment, for starters...

Heh. I love the Sims, but I am also a woman, and evil.

Yahtzee chooses to miss the point that the fun part is not actually controlling the Sims, but letting Free Will run and seeing what the little dolls you make do on their own, which is in fact quite a lot. (And then preferably cap or vid them and make crazy movies out of it.) Admittedly, it is sometimes less playing a game (though you can certainly sim-strategize the hell out of it) and more like interactive television, but what's wrong with interactive television? I got other games for when I want to splat things into gore.

The Sims should be renamed to Tranquillity Lane.
My next Sims project is in fact to build Tranquility Lane. With the Sims 3's new personality traits, it'll be fun making an angel-faced child named Betty with the traits "Genius", "Mean Spirited", and "Evil" and then watch her wreak havoc.
