It was a good joke at the time, but after the initial viewing there wasn't much reason to go back it and there weren't any particular jokes which stuck out.

I'm just sad it was one of the ones with that absolutely atrocious generic synthmetal intro/outro.

I miss when the intro/outro were jokes unto themselves.

While I don't consider the standardised intro/credit song to be "atrocious", I was severely disappointed when Yahtzee decided to switch to it. The unique intro and credit songs gave each episode a unique personality. Even after more than two years after the fact, I still feel like ZP lost a part of it's charm due to that change. Fortunately, at least Extra Credit decided to keep their unique credit song model.

Anyway, I was also disappointed that it wasn't one of Yahtzee's earlier episodes that won, since I always love rewatching those. That said, I suppose we could have done a lot worse than Duke Nukem Forever. It's actually kind of ironic that it was an episode reviewing a unreleased game that came out as the winner.

That said, I am honestly suprised Painkiller did so well. I mean, it wasn't a bad episode, but I could think of at least a few that I thought were far better. But personal opinions are personal opinions....

Who's to say he decided to switch? If Escapist pays his bills they probably TOLD him to change it. Also avoids them potentially getting sued by someone wanting song royalties.

He said it himself on his Fully Ramblomatic website (yes, it still exists) that it was his decision to switch to a standardised intro/credit song, both beacuse he believed it was more "professional" and also to avoid potential lawsuits.

Besides, if it was the decision of the Escapist staff, they would have forced him to switch right from the start, not only do so after 20+ episodes already included unique intro/credit songs. Also, since ZP qualifies as parody and doesn't feature entire songs, it's not really breaking the law (hence why the Escapist was never sued for any of those early episodes).

Personally I wanted this to win as soon as Orange Box got tossed. I love watching Yahtzee enjoy games, and the Orange Box was my favorite of the ones he enjoyed. But this was spectacularly funny, especially the parts where he started ranting about how much everything about the game should suck, and then going back to his fantasy land.


Also; shurikens and lightning + tits and on fire = FTW. That was the best part of Painkiller review.

Being a parody has little to do with it. Space Balls doesn't feature John Williams music.
It all depends upon whether what he uses falls under the rules for Fair Use or not. Given that the escapist is so far as I know a US-based web 'zine.

Em, yeah...that was sort of my point. Parody falls under Fair Use.

I think this is a perfect example of why democracy doesn't work. You let people vote on something they don't understand and it gets screwed for those that do.
