A good rant, I recently gave up wow upon realising how boring it is...
seriously, it was like a chore

Hilarious... but seriously how did he get in a guild?
I kid.

Anyone else initially think this thread was just a wishful thing like "Oh, wouldn't it be awesome if Yahtzee reviewed WoW! Because I really care and am not funny enough to invent cock-jokes myself."

Oh I'm sure there was at least one person who ruined their life trying to get 100% in Super Metroid.

And tbh I actually do hate it when I get an spiffy new weapon or armor piece but it looks like crap. It's like finding the perfect car for dirt cheap but the only available color is neon pink with glitter :/

You got killed in a Deathwing random event?

LUCKY!

Yeah, I know it's ironic, but it's rare and cool.

This review was more levelheaded than most, I agree almost completely.

I just stopped Cataclysm recently, and I don't feel like I WANT to play it, but I do feel like I SHOULD.

That's some scary shit.

I'd be right up there with all the LOK'TAR OGAR if Garrosh hadn't almost personally killed me twice before hitting level forty. Do not want getting dropped off bridge kthx.

An issue I had with the MMO is that they have a comic running that they kind of forcefully wedge into the game as being canon. The only part I'm familiar with involves telling where a certain Stormwind king has been doing all this time.

I've hated Garrosh since WotLK and I wasn't amused when I heard he'd be taking over as Warchief. I was Horde through and through until a certain diplomatic liability took command. I also hate Varian Wrynn as much, if not more, so Alliance isn't even an option if that thing is even a part of it.

I took the third option and quit playing because now with Cataclysm, I feel that the game is just everyone playing dodgeball with the Conflict ball just because. More so now than in Northrend. Maybe I had time to look through all I've done, lean back, and think, "Wow, this is fucking stupid."

The goblin starting area is hilariously fun. The worgen starting area is both sullen and stupid. On that point I wholeheartedly agree: Fuck the Alliance. And fuck the people that use "grats" on gaining piss-easy achievements, too.

I was actually curious as to how a self proclaimed misanthrope like Yahtzee ended up in a guild. *reads end message* Ah, rats...

There really are people who play WoW just to be the best like he said in his video, but there are people like me who genuinely enjoy the content and lore and raid to see the continuation of it. Items, to me, are only necessary to enjoy more warcraft lore.

EDIT: In regards to the "Grats" part, I personally only congratualate people when they actually achieve something worthwhile, it annoys me to see people do it for trivial achievements.

I used to love WoW, I used to devote countless hours to it. I gave it up last year and got tempted enough to try Cataclysm out.
I can thankfully say that I am free from WoW. The Cataclysm trial did nothing but remind me that essentially, fun as it is while you're doing it, the game is a massive skinner box. I was bored for the Cataclysm trial and didn't get back into it.

Thank god >_>.

I strongly disagree, TBC was as close to perfect as it could be.
Visually, perhaps (I will admit that WotLK gear is boring, a palette swap, or both) but too much about the thing was just terrible. Blood Elves on the Horde (blood elves playable at all, honestly), turning some of the most compelling characters from the RTS into loot pinatas, Hellfire peninsula, the sheer amount of grind, and most of the questing zones just aren't compelling.

The fact that Yahtzee has been playing a MMORPG like WoW has not sunk in my stubborn brain. That is how shocked I am. All this time, I been paying attention to how much he dislikes MMOs that I assumed he wouldn't play one or have time to. It almost feels like he is coming out of the closet with this or he is taking me out of the closet. Showing me something else than I expect to only put me into another closet for the next unexpected thing.

"How did he get into the Guild?" haha, that's easy. He is a guild leader. That explains all the imps. (kidding)

Those things aren't important at all. The endgame is. And that was pretty much the best it has ever been. Not perfect mind you, but WotLK pretty much ruined any chance of that.

Haha, now I actually feel less bad for getting interested in a bit of WoW again. Played it a couple of years ago, when apparently I was too thick to figure out why "soloing with a holy priest" even sounds bad on paper.
The numbers really are a weak point, but on the other hand World of Warcraft has a shitload of lore and quite nice world-building. Considering to pick it up again as I most definitely didn't feel any addiction the first time. TF2 got me addicted. Over a thousand hours in like one years (although you have to substract quite a bit because of idling, but it's still way too fucking much. "Luckily" the last few updates have turned me off).

I never played it, but I agree with his points that being well made and fun or addicting or whatever is not enough to justify the cost.

It does not look fun to me, but I am guessing it is for a lot (duh) and do not even want to try. That said, I am surprised he even played it, almost as surprised that he played it before.

I have not read MOGWORLD yet; waiting for the iBooks version *HINT HINT*; and so I did not know it was WOW based, I figured it was a Ultima Online thing because all I have ever enjoyed is Ultima back in the day and I guess I was projecting.

Still kind of a funny review, not the best but at least worth of the ZP name.

Never did know what was going on in WoW. I was vaguely aware that we (the Horde) were fighting them (the Alliance), but I never really found out why. There's probably a good reason the Night Elves want to kill the nature loving Taurens, but no one ever bothered to explain it to me.

I guess you could argue that MMOs aren't about the story line, but then why would it makes us do so much faffing about to level up? And if we're meant to experience the world, why let us zip through the low level content so quickly?

Although WoW isn't the worst offender of this stuff. Just the biggest.

So, uh... did he like WoW or not? I mean, I know he called it evil and all, but everyone knows that at this point, and just becuase something is evil does not mean it's not enjoyable

Thank you for addressing the problem with raiding and instances. You're only gathering gear to gather more gear.

I played World of Warcraft for a very brief period of time(because I try things before I bash them) and I never understood the point. Once you've gathered the best gear you possibly can, there's nothing left to do but PvP, and the PvP system is so shit that it's not even worth doing.
