19 posts before me, (not including the initial post) and only one mention of Monkey Island? That's just not right.

Why wont they bring back Monkey Island 1 and 2???

I used to have Goblins Quest 3 which I really enjoyed but I don't know where the discs have gone. After some searching on wikipedia I found that the rights are now owned by Vivendi.

I contacted Vivendi and asked them to send me the game assets. I argued that the EULA said they I do not own the game merely the rights to use it which they never put a time limit on. Ergo, I argued that they owe me a copy of the game. Unsurprisingly they said that they did not support it anymore and couldn't help me.

Im glad we both agree the wii is a gimmick. I feel like playing a story telling adventure game now. But the first thing that comes to my mind is Broken Sword. There were sequels of that right?

And Biek, I'm glad you're happy to admit that you don't know what the definition of 'gimmick' is. And before you copy and paste the definition from your computer dictionary, please keep in mind that you just said that the entire Wii console is a gimmick... which is stupid.

Anyway, back to the review, I've grown a liking to some adventure games since I've started playing Phoenix Wright, but Zack and Wiki is so different that I'm not sure if I might enjoy it... and I'm not talking about content and whatnot, I'm referring to storylines and characters. Z&W seems to be more puzzle-based with not so much story, apparently, and that's a turn-off for me... I guess I'll just have to rent this one.

Not the usual edgy or controversial video, but the humor factor in it is up there with the best.

I have no idea why I was chuckling as much as I was, must have just needed cheering up.

Oh and giving Roberta Williams games their due time in the burner is long overdue.

Yeah, but I think the series have been milked a bit too much.
Now Ive only played the first game, but there have been many releases after that one.
In this case though it's a bit different. Sequels tend to be shittier than the previous version but their focus had been anyways on unraveling mysteries by using logic ( if you can forgive the 2 or 3 logic holes that happened in each version making you test every damn evidence on every damn testimony part until you hit the right spot ). Somehow I liked that the system didn't change dramatically. After all they tried new things in the latest title ( number 4 if I'm not mistaken ) which uses especially the pen for more than just a better selection tool. And one thing is though for sure: they love doing epic cases keeping you busy for some time if you don't rush through. Definitely a series I'm looking forward to the next installment. So far they did not fail their customers.

Tons of humor.
I love how you kept changing the names of the main characters.
That and your way of expressing condensed names, such as F.P.S, leaves me laughing.

i agree so much with the "UND PRECICELY VON application" thing. Its a good thing they stopped doing one trillion cubic meter inventories.

Man, I rented this game when I heard all the praise about it, and I was really disapointed. For those who don't know, the "random things killing you" was a serious point in Bens' review. You simply investigate something completely inconspicous and the damned thing kills you for practically no reason. I couldn't finish the game because at about the third area I was so sick of having to deal with random stupid deaths that I just got bored.

I've actually been really wanting Ben to review this one, as I love adventure games and this one just stomped all over that love with golf cleats. Seriously, I like being able to figure out the answers myself, not having to look up that I was supposed to take the friggin' umbrella before opening the chest. That's just dumb.

I swear, if they had just taken out the random deaths, then I would really reccommend this game.

Podcasts are fairly useless, IMO.

Meh. I think it's sad that the Wii's one saving title is one you play with a gamecube controller and utilize zero of the Wii Functions -- namely Brawl. I liked the GCN -- it had some good titles like Pikmin and such.

But the if Nintendo follows the Wii up with something similar, the Nintendo fan boy in me will finally die, lying as he is in a sorry state in the hospital ward of my mind.

How can you say that the only reason to have a wii is Brawl. Haw about MP3: Corruption, No More Heroes, Super Mario Galaxy, Zack & Wiki, among others. I don't even like SSB Brawl (never been a fan of the series) that's why to me it is kind of annoying when people give credit to the wii BECAUSE of SSB Brawl ONLY, when other games (like the ones I mentioned) use the wii hardware in a more convincing way.

UND PRECICELY VON!
Amen mate the adventure games where you had to go through everything in your extensive arsenal every time you encountered something you could do SOMETHING with was enough to drive me up the wall back in the day.
Especially when you had say, a guard blocking your path and you thought the gun would be the correct choice but you find the answer was the rubber wallabies was indeed what was needed to get the guard to leave his post.
Times like that you just sat there dumbfounded going "Huuuh??? that worked!?!".

Great review Yhatzee, keep em coming.

Maybe it's my own ignoarance of the system.
Previously I had never heard of Zach & Wiki.
No More Heroes I've just heard rumors about but haven't seen.
Super Mario galaxy I found uninteresting.

Its just, IMHO, I would rather play A LOT of the Current Wii titles with the old GCN controllers. The few times, IMHO, that I've enjoyed using the Wii Remote is in Wii Play and Wii Sports, but then those games are best used at a party when your guests become board with Beer Pong and Flip Cup.

Both made (or published, at least) by Capcom, I note.

And apparently with similar downsides.

I was kind of hoping that the annoying "you failed to grasp our illogic, repeat the last 15 minutes!" was limited to Capcom's Ace Attorney series, I'm rather sad to learn it's apparently par for course. There's nothing more annoying than being sure you know the answer, only to learn that the game disagrees and as punishment for not figuring out whatever the developers were thinking you get to slowly wade through pages of text yet again. (Especially when you knew the right answer, but guessed the wrong item.)

I do wonder to what extent it's a translation issue, if the logic would make more sense to a Japanese audience. But it's still annoying and makes the games far more annoying than they really need to be.

Seriously, why not let me be retarded and poke everything? What harm comes from allowing me to just try everything until I hit on the correct solution? Why the extreme punishment for being slightly wrong?
