Have they even released the Zune in the UK?

Anyway, on topic: I just have a generic mp3 player. Means I don't have to deal with itunes.

Zune. I got the Zune 120GB after my iPod 30GB broke, and I haven't looked back since. The player looks nicer, functions better, can do more, costs less, and integrates with the Zune Software, which absolutely demolishes iTunes on Windows. Prices are usually 79c per song, and almost all of them are DRM free, as well as better sounding, in my opinion (compared same song from both stores). Also, the Zune Pass is a steal. $14.99/mo for unlimited downloads, plus streaming previews of the full length of most songs available on the marketplace.

Doesn't work on Mac, but for Windows, it's head and shoulders above the iPod.

Neither. I have a Creative V200 Mp3 that's 1GB and has lasted me Eight years, the most reliable thing EVER. Its being held together with Selotape and it still works

Neither, 8gig Walkman. Smaller than both, charges faster than both, lasts longer than both once fully charged, file size is smaller so more tunes per gig with no obvious lose of quality. Okay the Sonicstage software is a tad poo but then anything that forces you to install quicktime before you can install the software you actually want isn't exactly brilliant either.

Just traded my friend a 16gb Zune for his 30gb iPod Video.

I'd say Creative over either of them, but if i had to pick out of those 2 I would say the Zune. iPods are just flashy and apple excels at making shiny, gimmicky, hardware that appeals to people who like shiny objects and getting ripped off.

Not to mention people who use ipods usually get tricked into buying all their music through itunes in their DRM ridden proprietary m4a format, and then you're screwed because you have to stay with ipods for the rest of your life.

Yaa, major flame war potential.... I prefer the iPod, its much better looking and Apple products don't break as often as a microsoft product might...

I know you have to be kidding, apple products break all the time because they're poorly designed and cheaply built. The batteries are sub-par quality and have to be replaced within 2 years. In the last 4 years, my friend has gone through 5 ipods, 5. That's ridiculous. When I ask him why he doesn't just try another brand of mp3 player he tells me "because all of my music is in m4a format."

I mean look at the new iphone with its overheating issues. It melts through people's hands.

here's the way to look at it

ipod - very little drm, your music is your music forever

zune - more drm than you can shake a stick at, any music they don't want on there can be removed AND any music you buy will no longer be playable when ever they decide to stop allowing you to play it

What are you talking about? The m4a is the most DRM filled peice of shit formatt ever released on the internet.

What you're describing is the zune pass, its 14.99 a month and unlimited music downloads. You don't need to have the zunepass to use the zune marketplace, you can just do individual downloads just like itunes and you can choose either mp3 or wma format, neither of which have ANY drms, unlike itunes which requires you to download in m4a format.

You can also just buy all your music from amazon, like i do, and not ever have to worry about converting it to m4a to get it onto your ipod.

I have a 5 year old iPod Mini that works as well as it did they day I bought it. I'll probably stick with Apple once it dies, since it's been so reliable. I looked at the Zune, but the song library isn't as large as Itunes's, plus their subscription service is a total scam. Any product where the company can forcibly remove content from a device that you purchased is not something I would buy.

I have never really understood the need to customize wallpapers. The only reason I look at the screen is to change the song or find the album that I want. As long as the background isn't terrible garish, who cares?

I have a Zune. To be honest, I kinda regret getting one. I mean, it's pretty cool. You can put your own background.. and it has a radio.

Sucky thing is.. there is practically no accessories for it. I spent two weeks trying to find a case for it, only to find a plastic one costing $50 and makes it look ten times bigger (btw, I stole it.. $50 for 2 cent plastic? Hell no!).

It's all personal preference though. If I were you though, go with the iPod. Everyone else has one >.>

I own a Black 120 GB Zune. I love it. It hasn't failed me yet.

I'm very anti-iPod and iTunes. Several thousand of the songs currently on my Zune came from someone else's Zune and I have it all on my computer because you can copy Zune mp3 files onto whatever computer you want and sync your Zune to any other computer you want without there being any song deletion at all anywhere.

This is beautiful.

Also Zune's are damn near indestructable.

They're lots of pros and cons on this, but I base mine solely on how much space it can hold.
So either or, max space is all that matters, but I do have to say I like the aesthetics of a iPod better.

I started with a Creative Zen, then went to a Zune. I had an iPod for a while and was unimpressed, but the Zune impressed me even while I was opening the packaging - the boxing shows how much care they put into the product. It's a functional creation - it's designed to play what it plays, and it does it well. Superbly, in fact.

However, I got tired of carrying around a phone and a Zune, so I wound up just using my N95 for music. And now I have an iPhone which serves all purposes.

Moral of the story? Zunes are awesome. Just as good if not better than iPods and a hell of a lot cheaper.

And about the reliability of my Zune... the screen was cracked in 23 places. I dropped it... once.

as for m4a, it's drm is NOTHING compared to the stuff that windows media has. you should really do some reading before you get proven wrong very easily

as for ipods, you can easily put mp3s and such on there if you want
