Zune Or iPod

I have an old zune that I got for a graduation present. I have an iPod touch that I got for (almost) free when I got my new mactop. The zune is pretty cool, and the interface for the new one is pretty cool as well. Really the only thing that my iPod has that's better is the internet browser, which I love.

But if you were to compare a classic iPod and a new Zune, I'd say that they're pretty equal, and I found that my zune was very reliable and I had no problems with the software or hardware. Same with mypod.

Here's my only problem with Zune: They have this awesome wireless zune-to-zune music sharing, but first you have to find someone else who has a zune.

iPods own the mp3 player market, and barring anything extraordinarily revolutionary (zunes turning into optimus prime or the like), no "ipod killer" is going to change that.

Wow, longer post than I expected. Sorry.

I like iPods, I dunno why, I just think they're better looking and sleeker.
That said, I dont think they sell Zunes outside the US so all I have to go on for comparison is pictures. If they do, I would probably look at a friend's zune and immediately become biased against it for some trivial reason though...

P.S. Yes I am a hopeless RL troll, don't try to help me

EDIT: BTW, I have a nano, but I'm saving for a touch (Yes I am broke, I've figured out that I get £60 a month to spend on non-essentials like food, rent and power/gas/water)

here's the way to look at it

ipod - very little drm, your music is your music forever

zune - more drm than you can shake a stick at, any music they don't want on there can be removed AND any music you buy will no longer be playable when ever they decide to stop allowing you to play it
What are you talking about? The m4a is the most DRM filled peice of shit formatt ever released on the internet.

What you're describing is the zune pass, its 14.99 a month and unlimited music downloads. You don't need to have the zunepass to use the zune marketplace, you can just do individual downloads just like itunes and you can choose either mp3 or wma format, neither of which have ANY drms, unlike itunes which requires you to download in m4a format.

You can also just buy all your music from amazon, like i do, and not ever have to worry about converting it to m4a to get it onto your ipod.
actually no i'm not. it has nothing to do with the zunepass, this is from the marketplace itself

here's an easy to reference screenshot

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=7271611&id=623900290

as for m4a, it's drm is NOTHING compared to the stuff that windows media has. you should really do some reading before you get proven wrong very easily

as for ipods, you can easily put mp3s and such on there if you want
Odd, I've had my zune for 2 years and I've never had that happen, so its either rare or its bullshit, I don't exactly consider facebook a credible source of information. It sounds like to me he used the zunepass, and got pissed off when all his music was deleted because he stopped paying for it. Yes I know he "claims" he didn't, but none of my collection has ever tried to sync with the zune marketplace, so I don't know what that error is.

Regardless, it doesn't matter which mp3 player you go with, just don't use itunes or zune marketplace, its not like zune requires you to use the marketplace. The device itself will play just about any format of music.

As for myself, I don't usally use the marketplace, there's no reason to unless you're doing zune pass. I've purchased a few items off the marketplace but it requires you to sink money into "microsoft points" similar to the xbox live arcade system, and you usually have points left over. If I'm going to buy music digitally, I just buy it from amazon. Zune doesn't require you to use the marketplace at all.

iPod, hands down. I own an 80GB model from a few years back that's still in perfect working order despite being dropped a few times. No experience with the touch models, but for a good looking and practical mp3 player with a large capacity, the Classic models are your best option.

120GB iPod classic. Most space, easily the best for me.

You know what's better than an iPod? A Zune.

you aren't considering it credible cause it proves you wrong, the amount of effort he'd have to go thru to photoshop that, especially putting in MARKETPLACE into it with the correct font and nicely lined up too

seriously read stuff before you go discrediting things and blowing them off cause you might learn a thing or two

If we are simply examining the player itself I prefer the zune. If we look at the software, iTunes is vastly superior. I actually own both, though they perform different functions. My iPod (120gb Classic) is primarily used in my car and while at school or doing homework. My 8Gb Zune is used when I do anything physical (I swear I'd use it when fencing if that weren't "against the rules")

Are we basing this off of personal experience or are you just making wild accusations on the internet. My zune produces the same high quality sound and carries the same amount of information as the ipod equivalent. They both have similar size screens, battery life and overall dimensions. The only real differences lie in the appearance and inteface of the device (and I prefer the Zune) and the software (where I prefer the iPod).

Interesting that you prefer iTunes over the Zune software -- I think that the Zune software is vastly superior to iTunes, not the other way around. I especially like the interface, and how seamlessly syncing goes, as well as the visualizations. iTunes was always functional, but never perfect, and syncing always caused the program to freeze for a bit. Not to say that you're wrong, but could you please elaborate on why you find better about iTunes?

I haven't seen a thread about this for awhile.
Also, if Zune, what model? If iPod, same deal.
Just traded my friend a 16gb Zune for his 30gb iPod Video.
One question what the fuck is Zune?

Definitely Zune. I've owned one for a year now and its the best Mp3 player I've ever owned and I've been buying them since 1999. They're really easy to use and the sound quality is way better than iPod's. The only downside is that the software isn't that great (though its still better than iTunes). The Zune pass is a pretty good deal too. Just don't buy Zune if you want to buy accessories as well. As another poster mentioned they're kind of scarce...
