Pour one out for big Valtteri after that pit stop at Monaco. That's the most brutal one of the lot. Mans pure cursed.
You got to it before I did...

My guy (Bottas) was running in a respectable 2nd place while his teammate (Hamilton, aka “second coming of Christ”) was struggling back in 6th. The team brings Hamilton in to pit and have him out in 2.2 seconds. Moments later, they bring in Bottas, aaaaaand… pit crew machines the wheel nut to his axel and he’s forced to retire from the race. Then team principle Toto Wolfe had the fucking nerve to come out and say Bottas was partially to blame for stopping too soon in the pit box which caused the mechanic to have to angle his wheel gun leading to him effectively grind it onto the axel. For fuck’s sake, that’s the equivalent of your barber saying he fucked up your edge up because you were sitting too far back in his chair.

Another disastrous weekend in Formula 1, but we got a couple good memes out of it!

Alpha Romeo's Giovanazzi made it into Q3 somehow; that was pretty incredible... as in the literal meaning of the word, "unbelievable."

1621953488560.png

And Lewis Hamilton, "bEst DriVar EVAR," was handily out qualified by 6 other drivers, one of which was Bottas (quali'd 3rd.) Went on to complain that Monaco needs "updated" for the size of the modern cars because it's too hard to pass on the course...

I've never seen something like that happen before. Wrong tyre sets, jammed wheel guns, slow changes, but never a fucking threaded axel. Dude needs to meet a shaman in the mountains before the next race.

It was a weird race because it was mostly boring but some absolute shithouseary occurred. LeClerc not even starting was something else, not even starting from the pits, just not racing at all. All at his home race, it was wild. Also , the uncalled for cut on the live feed to 'STROLL 18' while an dangerous battle for position was happening sent me. The memes have been off chops since.

Some positives still. Max leading the championship for the first time, a unique podium, Gasly, Vettel and Gio having good showings. I still think Hamilton is going to come back on strong on tracks he usually dominates on, but its classic Monaco, everything interesting happens off the track.

This dude is absolutely insane. 22 years old with 50 home runs and top 5 in plenty of other stats. Don't know if it's too much of a reach, but he reminds me a hell of a lot of Griffey Jr. when he was younger. If him Machado and Snell can't put their $650M together and win a ring they shouldn't even bother playing together.

In other news, my Rockies are paying Arenado to be an All-Star on another team, as if it couldn't be any worse of a run franchise.

Yeah, I’ve heard quite a few complaints that the race was “boring,” but I was actually able to enjoy it for the drama behind it all. Hamilton in the midfield literally chasing down an Alpha Tauri (Gasly) and failing was worth the price of admission alone. But LeClerc not starting at all was a shocker, the pole sitter sitting OUT. Honestly, the most boring part was Verstappen, no competition, no fight, just out front cruising waiting for the laps to expire. At least Bottas was keeping him within a couple seconds until Mercedes jammed it up his tail pipe… But given circumstances, I was happy with the podium, too. Seeing Norris and Sainz together again (if on different teams) was a bit heart-warming.

That said, I’ve learned that F1 fans are a particularly cynical group. I’ve been a sports fan most of my life, but never have I encountered fans that are just fucking MEAN. I joined two F1 fan groups on Facebook looking for some camaraderie and playful ribbing and banter, but these guys, jeesh, they’re just awful to one another. Maybe it’s because F1 is so personal; you’re not necessarily cheering for a team, but a singular individual of 20 in the whole world, but they’re out for blood. At 41 years of age, I’ve not been called much worse than what I’ve been called as a Bottas fan, lol; makes me love him all the more!

There's really not even words for this one...

This is out of comedy about baseball not a real baseball game. Baez is either a galaxy brain gen in breaking the Pirates defense or the Pirates are just a bunch schmoes with a backyard minor league masquarading as profession team.

We are all Anthony Rizzo in this scenario that was good belly laugh.

The new ‘greatest moment in MLB history’, this one will go down with the best of them.

Its one of the worst defensive plays I’ve seen in any sport ever. Just step onthe bag bro!! You’ve got two outs!! He even could have tagged him at the plate and it would have been inning over. The fact Baez had time to signal out and THEN fun to first is the cherry on top.

It works cause even if you don't know baseball you know the guy is a dumbass.

I parrot everything about this his observation.

After being forced to retire from the race in Monaco where he was running in 2nd place and the pit crew “accidentally” machined his wheel nut to the axle, Valtteri Bottas now finds himself stuck in Finland in lieu of tomorrow’s practice, Saturday’s qualis and Sunday’s race in Baku. Apparently, the plane he was supposed to be on had some mechanical issues. He’s always gonna be my guy, but for someone whose career revolves around vehicles, I think he’s a fucking curse. He’s trying to get to Baku by this evening, but yeesh… And George Russel is there waiting in the wings like a pervy F1 seat stalker. I swear, that guy is like your wife’s male friend who you know is just waiting for you to fuck up so he can swoop in.

EDIT: Bottas made it to Baku!!! Fuck you, George Russell; get back in that sorry-ass Williams and PRAY you make it into Q2 and quali in the mid teens at best come Saturday!

Aslo, this is probably my favorite F1 meme of all time.

Damn

I'm not sure anyone really cares all that much but

I don't know how he ended up since I had stopped watching about halfway through the Third Round but at the time of me watching at least, he was in the Top 3 (he might have even been leading but I don't quite remember so I'm playing it safe and saying Top 3).

That sucks for him

EDIT: I got this link from someone as he was told on the course

Sheesh.

One of the biggest games of rugby league of the year, the first of a three game series, and it was a 50-6 blowout.

Shouldn't have even bothered watching.

Something in the hockey world is kind of bugging me. I'm seeing a lot of "The Avs are collapsing/self-destructing/blowing it" commentary. They are not Toronto (sorry Leafs fans,) I don't think people are giving enough credit to the Golden Knights. Yes, Colorado was the best team heading into the playoffs. They are probably still the most talented and fastest team alive in the post-season. But on a team where the "weak spot" isn't really all that weak... defense is that spot. And the Knights are making them lean too hard on Grubauer, who is really good but needs his team to keep the pressure off if they want to win. Right now the Avs standout player is Brandon Saad, and there's nothing wrong with that (being a Blackhawks fan I think the world of that guy.) But the Avs are simply better if Saad is hot... they NEED MacKinnon and/or Landeskog to be hot if they want to dominate opponents. And that hasn't happened much this series. But I don't think they just aren't playing their best right now, in games 3 & 4 the Knights defense was just smothering them, allowing nothing. And that's the difference right now.

I think its a shame that these two teams are meeting now and not in a championship or final. Because whichever team advances here has got to be a favorite for the cup.

Real football games are underway with Italy handily beating Turkey 3-0 in a comically one-sided affair. Things get even real-er tonight when Finland gets to prove themselves too fortunate to even participate. What I find ridiculous are the advertisement video screens around the field running Chinese ads. In fucking EURO football...

Well shit. A Danish player's heart stopped in the middle of the game.
Update: sources say he's ok, but I dunno if they play through the rest of the match.
Update 2: He's stable and they will play the rest of the match (2nd half only...?)

I do hope Erikson's OK.

EDIT: Apparently he's conscious.

In between times was Switzerland v Wales, which was a poor show all round. Wales should count themselves lucky they got a draw, Switzerland should be ashamed of their poor offence and letting Wales get one in.

Just when the tv graphic shows that Attempts at Goal are 18 - 0 for Denmark and Shots Toward Goal are 5 - 0, Finland gets the first for both... and it's a goal.
Update: Danes mad

Memes from the debacle in Baku...

So apparently I missed it during the live broadcast, but the cause of Lewis Hamilton’s disastrous 2nd to last lap at the restart in Baku last Sunday was a “brake magic” button. After race leader Max Verstappen had a tire failure which led to him wrecking out, the race went into a standing restart (restarting from a stationary grid as opposed to a rolling restart.) This left Hamilton in a promising P2 going into turn 1 wheeeeeere, his front tires locked up, and he went off the road. Turns out the cause was his accidentally hitting the brake magic button which diverts power to the front brakes allowing them to heat up and better warm the tires for better traction. He finished in P16, 4 places behind the now notoriously unlucky Bottas who never stood a chance if I’m being honest. Not much to brag about but didn’t stop me from calling my dad (a Hamilton fan) and gloating as if Bottas actually accomplished anything save for finishing the race without complete disaster.
