What's the song? I might be able to help!
It's Cosmic Dancer by Deepsky.

It's basically this version, but minus the first 2 minutes or so, and the last minute or so. I mean I guess I can use this clip, as it's basically it, it's just a lot slower to build compared to the version I was looking for. Used to have it on CD, but not sure where that disc is anymore.

Omg, there's a song by Deepsky (intro to MTV's AMP) I've been looking for for decades.

That song? Or another song? Not familiar with AMP

Did a quick YT search, and this is what came up

That the one you wanted?
Sorry, I typed that wrong; I meant to say "there's a song by Deepsky I looked for for decades" being sympathetic to your quest for one of their tunes. But yes, that is the one.

But you never heard of AMP?!? Boy, you missed out!! Back in the '90s for a couple of years, MTV relegated an hour of air time (like, 2am on Sundays, I think) to electronic music videos. Most them were trippy, psychedelic animations or art house acting (come to think of it, I really wish I did drugs back then; AMP was the perfect time to trip balls.) Despite having to be up and ready for school in the morning, I stayed up with a pen paper ready to jot down any tracks/artists that caught my attention. I discovered TONS of great music that way. Best use of MTV since before, then or ever.

After watching the intro clip when I searched for that, I vaguely recall it yes. Back then I wasn't really into EDM as much, and definitely not enough to make a point to wait until 2am to watch it. I seem to recall catching it here and there, on nights of insomnia, but the dj's usually didn't really catch my fancy most nights, given the random selection. So it never became something I actively sought out.

People who give their kids the middle name Junior, instead of the suffix Jr.

Seriously, why in the fuck do you do this?!?! Because when I'm sorting through file names, I now have to double check my naming system to see if it's someone just typed out the suffix instead of just the JR, or is it their actual fucking name. It's just so frustrating.
I'll never understand why people give their kids the names they do. Like why would you ever call a child "Guy"? That's like naming your cat "Cat."
They're actually slippers,
There's your problem. Can't blame them for living up to their name.

Funny you should say that, about "living up to their name", as I've noticed, that people who get named for virtues, tend to be the opposite. Like, EVERY girl I've known named Chastity, which is admittedly only about 3, were anything but Chaste. I suspect it's something about being rebellious, and deciding "ok well they named me after not having sex? I'm going to fuck everything I see!" Similar to the "catholic schoolgirl/preacher's daughter" syndrome of being dirty as hell.

I actually have a client, her first name is Arrogance. Not kidding. I have no idea if that was the name her parents gave her, which if so, wtf parents?! Or if it's a name change she did on her own later in life. If so, wtf lady?! People take WAY too much significance to a name. I had another client who got my name wrong, and when I corrected him, he was just SO upset that he got it wrong, and was apologizing profusely. Like, to ridiculous levels. When I told him that it was ok, it wasn't a big deal. He was like "It IS a big deal! Names have power!" My response "No they don't, it's just a series of sounds I answer to, calm down, I don't care that you got it wrong, people always get my name wrong on the phone. Now can we discuss your benefits?"

Wow, that's incredible. Maybe parents not native English speakers? About the only reason I could think of other than her parents hated her.

*shrugs* She spoke perfectly fine english with no accent, but her parents might be from somewhere else? I didn't ask her about it, it just felt like a conversation that was either a hot topic for her that would annoy her because everyone asks. Or it's something she LOVES talking about, and I'd bite off more than I can chew.

My working theory, is that they were playing Opposite day or something, and that if they name her after a Vice, given the tendency for kids to NOT live up to their Virtue names...that it would mean, by reverse psychology, she wouldn't be arrogant? *shrugs* The one I think is more likely, is SHE changed her name to that, for some personal reason, as a statement or whatever. I dunno, didn't ask, didn't really care, but it stuck in my mind as a prime example of "people can be fucking weird with names"

Yeah it can be fairly strange. My family has a fairly complex formula for coming up with baby names. It is supposed to help by narrowing the potential names, but in my case it led to being born un-named (my original birth certificate had "Baby Boy" in the first name field) and my mother settling on a name that fit the formula she saw on a nametag... in a dream about being at a conference. So as someone who also has a weird name, I can say you did the right thing. It is very annoying to get the same handful of questions every single time I'm introduced to anyone. I know there's a preference these days for parents to name their special little baby something "unique." But they will thank you... DON'T. Pick something ordinary and then spell it right. It will be a MASSIVE time saver for them later.

Oh god, yes, changing the spelling for regular names, but then still pronouncing it normally, drives me NUTS. Almost as much as them pronouncing it differently while keeping the spelling normal. "Ok Michael..." *mike-ul* "...so what kind of..." "I'm sorry, it's Muck-Eye-ul, not Michael." *looks at sheet that clearly has it spelled like billions of michael's have had it spelled for generations.* "....ok...Muck-Eye-Ul...." Now I get things being pronounced different in other countries, that's fine. But this is Joe American Normal Kid, born in Bumfuck USA (and I know this because I'm looking at his fucking birth certificate), to parents name Tom and Francine....it's fucking Michael damnit! Stop trying to be fancy by proxy!

I've also seen dudes, who have that "My children will all be named after me, even if they're female" fetish, that made for some REALLY stupid names for a girl. Like, the guys name is Kevin. So his kids are Kevon, Kevahn, Kevina (for daughter 1), Keviniqua (for daughter 2), etc etc. And if you think I'm exaggerating there....I am not.

The "culturally appropriated name" yeah, that's me. My name has no meaning in english, but does hold meaning in a few languages and cultures that are not my own. Being fair to Mom in my case, she didn't have any idea and just thought it was neat. It is traditionally something more Middle Eastern, which I do find some fun with post 9\11, freaking out racists if I meet them online or over the phone or by audio. So it isn't all bad.

Yeah I mean, if it's something like "My mom is from France, so we pronounce it Michelle, even though it's spelled Michael" ok fine, fair enough. I don't know why you wouldn't just spell it as Michelle, but whatever.

I really want this heat wave to end now.
That would be nice yes.

Yo @happyninja42, I know you said you don't listen to Nirvana anymore, but check out this idiotic story.

Yeah, I'm kind of a split mind on this. On one hand, I find the idea of it being a claim of child pornography fairly stupid, as the point of the album wasn't sexual. I DO however, think that the guy should have some compensation for his image. I mean it's not like he was capable of giving consent to have his image used on a fucking album cover. He was an infant. I have no idea if his parents got any form of reasonable compensation for the image, or if they used it wisely for the kid. But given how shitty the entertainment industry is, they were probably lucky to get a one time payment that was probably chump change, and that was it. While this kids baby schlong, is now in MILLIONS of homes worldwide, on news channels, billboards, you name it. People made truck tons of cash off his cock, and I'm quite sure, that growing up, knowing how kids are, wanting to attack anyone that is unique in some way, probably gave him no end of shit, if they learned it was his picture.

So, I think the child pornography angle is a bit weird, but, I don't fundamentally have a problem with the now adult person, having issues with his image being used in such a way, and the unforeseen repercussions of it on his life, and wanting some compensation. I think he would probably have more luck with a copywright, or royalties claim, than a pornography case. I think that's just going to get thrown out of pretty much any court you could imagine. But, a royalty claim? For something THAT iconic? Yeah, might have more weight to it. *shrugs*
