I know. Look at the blind RE fans that say tank controls makes things "scarier" and have no flaws at all. You won't believe how many of those I have encountered online and in real life. This isn't a nintendo specific gripe either.

I'm not even really into RE(I know plenty of it though) but yeah, I'm gonna say Tank controls is not something that needs to be carried forward from a lot of these older games, unless you're literally playing a game about driving a Tanks(I'll also accept a Mech/Mecha), which there are surprisingly very few of. I'm excluding MP focused games like World of Tanks here or gimmick levels like COD occasionally has you drive a tank.I know. Yep, it's why I never really go back to the earlier entries. Other than music and atmosphere. RE4 I don't like that much, and it's over-the-shoulder tank controls make it all the more infuriating. Don't even get me started on RE5. There are reason I prefer the controls in Shadows of the Damned, Dead Space, Evil Within 2, and REMake 2 & 3 so much. Move and shoot at the same time, for life motherfuckers!I'm not even really into RE(I know plenty of it though) but yeah, I'm gonna say Tank controls is not something that needs to be carried forward from a lot of these older games, unless you're literally playing a game about driving a Tanks(I'll also accept a Mech/Mecha), which there are surprisingly very few of.
Having only played the RE remake, RE Zero and RE4 of the tank-controlling RE games, I would say the tank controls work very well for how those games are designed. I'm not going to talk about the scare factor of that camera, since none of the RE games are scary. But the controls make sense for those games. I never was bothered about not being able to walk while shooting in RE4 (my first RE), because everything is built around stop and shoot.I know. I sorta agree, though Claire's original outfit wasn't accurate to 90's fashion either. And I actually prefer Jill's new outfit, I feel it makes her look more badass. I think it also avoids being the typical jeans and shirt look by having some layering going on, and giving her a necklace. Little things like that is already enough to add some character. Honestly the only thing you'd have to change about Claire's new design is give the print on her jacket some actual color. Done.Any character designer who puts jeans and a tank top on their female protagonist should be embarrassed. As should the studio heads and executives who mandate that. Like we don't have enough of those. Sometimes the tank tops are under jackets.
Chloe Frazer - She wore slim cargo pants in Uncharted 2. In The Lost Legacy, she wore jeans. Her shirt at least had cap sleeves. It wasn't another tank top.
Elena Fisher - She wore capri pants in the first Uncharted. Since then, she has worn jeans. Uncharted 4 has her wearing jeans and a tank top.
Nilin from Remember Me - Not as recent as my other examples. I replayed it over the last week.
Claire Redfield from the Resident Evil 2 remake - Her clothes aren't even accurate to typical 1990s fashion.
Jill Valentine from the Resident Evil 3 remake - There was actually nothing wrong with her wearing a skirt in the original. Like Claire in RE2, she wasn't expecting to be in a zombie apocalypse. She was attacked in her apartment or hotel.
Jesse Faden from Control
Joanna Dark from the new Perfect Dark - We can see that she wears jeans in the teaser. I bet she wears a tank top under the jacket.
LaraLaura Croft from Tomb Raider
There are so many other practical choices, if you're aiming for realism/grit (Like we don't have enough of that.) and the protagonist is able to prepare for the situation. It's pretty obvious why they do it. The tank top and slim jeans allow them to show just enough of the body to please the horny male gamers but not so much that a certain other group of people will get angry. It's the most inoffensive, bland, safe combination there is.
I know they work and designed around, but it does not make me like them any more. I am more so referring RE4. RE0 is not a good game no matter the version, and RE1 Remake perfected tank controls. Still don't care much for them. I have RE1 & RE0 double pack collection on PS4. I fancy that version, because you are given the option to use a modern control scheme that works well in both games. RE4's controls I tolerated at the time, but once other over-the-shoulder horror/action games started showing up, the flaws started becoming all the more apparent. Plus, I do not like the game's pacing.Having only played the RE remake, RE Zero and RE4 of the tank-controlling RE games, I would say the tank controls work very well for how those games are designed. I'm not going to talk about the scare factor of that camera, since none of the RE games are scary. But the controls make sense for those games. They tried, but they felt it would not have been different enough and wanted try something else, because Capcom knew most people wanted over-the-shoulder.That RE2 remake was one of the best RE games I've ever played. But I would have preferred fixed cameras over another close up over the shoulder game in a sea of them.
Her new outfit is based of the beta version where she originally was going to wear the tank top and jeans combo in the original RE3 on PS1. Modern gaming had nothing to do with that. I don't care how much you dislike it. If you pre-ordered, her og costume is unlockable with a code. If not, you had to wait a couple of months unfortunately and pay a couple bucks.Jill Valentine from the Resident Evil 3 remake - There was actually nothing wrong with her wearing a skirt in the original. Like Claire in RE2, she wasn't expecting to be in a zombie apocalypse. She was attacked in her apartment or hotel.
Neither was the original outfit. It only looks so by comparison. And once again, her new outfit is based off concept art/ideas that were dropped for the original RE2 when it was going through the 1.5 phase. Just be happy you get her classic costume and the Elza Walker costume.Claire Redfield from the Resident Evil 2 remake - Her clothes aren't even accurate to typical 1990s fashion.
If you want fixed camera that badly:The only new horror game I've played with fixed cameras was Until Dawn. Which wasn't that good of a game, but at least showed what can be done with that camera in 3D environments instead of the old pre-rendered backgrounds. There was more motion in the camerawork. It was visually interesting, different and actually did add a little more tension.
Not for me nor, most other people. It's only "clunkier", because you're so used to the original control format. The "modern" control scheme option in RE1 and RE0 is clunkier. Now you're turning around when you move into a new area. Pushing the control stick forward makes more sense with a fixed camera like that. I wanted Until Dawn to have that option. Can you move backwards with the new camera in RE1 and RE0? I don't remember.
So what. Even though it's not AAA game, it not having pre-rendered backgrounds doesn't make it any less of a survival horror game. That's like literally crying for a toy you know is impossible to have. Don't harp on it for what it doesn't have. Actually focus on what the game is trying to achieve and has done so. Not everything has to measure up to the game Until Dawn. Good game, but it has its own flaws too. As for other AAA games, too bad. Not much else you can do other than play those games or don't. I don't care. Better option, instead of complaining about it constantly, either start tracking down old games that use fixed camera angles, or just keep searching into the Indie crowd.Tormented Souls' pre-rendered backgrounds also don't look anywhere near as convincing as the 3D environments in Until Dawn. 3D environments are the future of fixed cameras.
It depends on whose costumes you're talking about. Leon's classic costume is fine. Claire's looks a little off, because they removed the black turtleneck underneath her biker vest. There are mods that put it back in on the PC version, but it does look a little off. Jill's classoc outfit looks fine. And once again that tank top and jeans outfit for Jill was in the original beta for classic RE3. Claire's newer outfit in the remake is based off a concept they didn't use when they were developing RE 1.5. I know you say you don't like it, but Capcom wasn't following a trend in this case. They're just bringing back old parts that didn't get a chance to do in their original versions. That's why the Umbrella Lab has a sterile look this time, instead of the dirty factory look in the original. The classic outfits in RE2 and RE3 don't mesh with the realer graphics. They just weren't well updated and actually even look worse in places than the originals. It shows so little imagination to go with jeans and a tank top again just one year after RE2.
This article had the best write up on the camera work in GoW3, starting at the bottom of the first page-Having only played the RE remake, RE Zero and RE4 of the tank-controlling RE games, I would say the tank controls work very well for how those games are designed. I'm not going to talk about the scare factor of that camera, since none of the RE games are scary. But the controls make sense for those games. I never was bothered about not being able to walk while shooting in RE4 (my first RE), because everything is built around stop and shoot.
It's a shame that most of the AAA developers are only allowed to make first person games or the close up over the shoulder kind. That God of War director talked about how they chose the new camera for the cinematic aspect, not acknowledging how cinematic the fixed camera in the original trilogy was. The only new horror game I've played with fixed cameras was Until Dawn. Which wasn't that good of a game, but at least showed what can be done with that camera in 3D environments instead of the old pre-rendered backgrounds. There was more motion in the camerawork. It was visually interesting, different and actually did add a little more tension. That RE2 remake was one of the best RE games I've ever played. But I would have preferred fixed cameras over another close up over the shoulder game in a sea of them. I guess it's because Dead Space, the sequels to RE4, Alan Wake, The Last of Us and Evil Within don't play as well as pure third person shooters that I don't have an issue with some of the horror games trying the fixed camera alternative once in a while. But it never happens in AAA games.
Ah, yes, the common comeback. "Don't say anything bad about the things I like, just shut up and go away". Who gives a fuck if you find it harmful? I want what I want so shut up and go away.If you don't like the game don't fucking buy it.
Cool in that case you are okay with puritans banning porn, evangelicals banning LGBTQ books, alcohol makers banning weed, weed dispensarys banning alcohol, and baby boomers banning video games.Ah, yes, the common comeback. Ah, an appeal to extremes. "Shut up the critics or they'll take all our things away!"Cool in that case you are okay with puritans banning porn, evangelicals banning LGBTQ books, alcohol makers banning weed, weed dispensarys banning alcohol, and baby boomers banning video games.
The logic is the same, I disagree morally with something, and therefore it should be banned, or ostracized because it's a supposed gateway to things I don't like.Ah, an appeal to extremes. "Shut up the critics or they'll take all our things away!"
Alan Wake is scarier than RE1 (Vanilla) and RE4-RE8, but that game has always been a different approach to horror. Some jump scares are there, but it goes for a more surreal, supernatural, and unsettling suspense tone. Even during the day time, you're not completely safe as the Darkness is still planning and conspiring with or possessing certain townspeople. AW can double as a Silent Hill game in certain instances. It's a better Silent Hill game than 4, Origin, Homecoming, and Downpour. Hell, Alan Wake is kinda RE4, except it's less goofy, and plays itself more straight by comparison.Hot take here. But I found Alan Wake scarier then most resident evil titles.
Yeah it has some jump scares, but the dark scary forest always made me feel tense. Doom 64 is the better and true Doom 3 than Doom 3. Doom 3 is still a good game, but it has its issues. The BFG version is better, and I don't care for peoples complaints about the BFG version being "too easy". Similar complaints were made about the original version of 3, but the complaints went two fold with the BFG version.
Okay, so: that post happened 5 months ago. What's that about "getting the media on her side"? Is the Hot Take that this person is venting about a thing she doesn't like? Is she not allowed to vent in public? But of course, she is going to get the media on her side which I don't oppose that's democracy. And then complain when male rights contrarians do the same thing by going to Reddit or social media, and downvoting her comments, or replying to it saying in some form or another I don't agree.
By the way, I don't agree with violence or threats. But if there is a market for this type of stuff, that's free speech, and it does not cross the threshold of yelling fire in a crowded theater, or pedo shit. But of course, their threshold is stuff you like bad, stuff I like good.
Edit: Also downvote, and I have a game to buy.
