So Putin all but said he wishes to destroy Ukraine in its entirely and install a Russian puppet regime? Guess that proves all the useful idiots wrong who thought Putin had reasonable intentions.

The idiots on the right and the left gloating ''lol where's the invasion Joe'' are also hilariously, tragically wrong now.

I really wonder what China will do?
Nothing: they will remain discreetly quiet. As far as they are concerned, this is a weaker power they hold the whip hand over disrupting their main opponent.

Edit: We might note that Putin and Xi Jinping recently had a love-in at the Olympics. I severely doubt that an invasion of Ukraine was not discussed, and it is almost guaranteed that Xi Jinping promised tacit support or non-intervention.

What's even more annoying is that should Russia be successful, the ones on the right at least will instantly switch from "Foreign war we should not be involved with" to "Biden is weak for letting this happen".

I'm not completely sold on Finland joining NATO. It's more important to devastate the Russian economy with sanctions so much that the regular Russians start thinking other options than just playing along with war games.

Remember when Bill Clinton was blamed for 50K Iraqi children deaths from the sanctions placed on Saddam

Russian soldiers including their vanguard came in by bus on main roads-- hardly a blitzkrieg.
We've literally now had Russia declare war on Ukraine, and launch a massive military attack on Ukraine outside of the Donbas. And all you've done is shift the response, to offer limpdick excuses of another flavour. Every fucking time.

1- When the troops were all in Russia, and hadn't crossed the border, you endlessly insisted that it was a routine placement and we were just moaning about troops in their own country.

2- Then they marched over the border. And you just instantly dropped that line-- no recognition that you'd just been shown to be talking a load of bollocks. The excuse changed to "Oh, borders are meaningless, what really matters is they're not actually shooting at anyone!"

3- Then they literally declare war and start shooting. And of course, instantly, the excuse shifts again. Zero recognition that your last excuse has just turned out to be bollocks as well.

They're literally doing exactly what you've been insisting for page after page would never happen. You've been swearing till you're blue in the face that warnings of Russia declaring war were all western hysteria. And then when aaaaaall those excuses get blown to pieces, is there even the slightest recognition that you were wrong?

Nope. Just shifts again, this time onto pure whataboutery about the US.

You have a complete inability to recognise or accept that you made a mistake.

Yeah, these sanctions aren't going to do shit besides getting some poor Russians killed and driving the rest to be more extreme. Like, I cannot think of a time sanctions actually worked

Can't handle the shame and humiliation of being wrong.

This is just in case anyone here had the idea that Trump would have done more than Biden against Putin.

If Donald was president he'd probably have publicly offered Ukraine to Russia by now. I'm sure he feels pretty satisfied that the country that wouldn't target his personal rivals is now getting ''punished''

Direct videos in this Twitter thread of Russian helicopters carrying out a bombing raid in Hostomel (a suburb town of Kyiv, and home to an airport).

The Ukrainian military has shot down at least one of the helicopters.

As Agema noted, nothing... but what they'll do re: Taiwan is another matter entirely. If Russia can get away with a tepid international response, economic and diplomatic action only, Xi will feel there's nothing to fear from attacking Taiwan (sure the premise would be thin, but it's not like Russia's actions in Ukraine are good to be begin with as far as the international stage is concerned). If the west does get involved militarily and materially, then they're too pre-occupied to deal with another problem on the other side of the planet.

Both can be true.

A day and a half ago, Putin claimed he was only sending in "peacekeepers" to defend the area in yellow.

Two and a half days ago, Putin officially recognised even the area in yellow as Ukraine's sovereign territory.

Almost as if whatever he says about Russia's intentions overseas is a crock of shit, and one would be a gullible twit to pay it any credence.
