Probably but who's fault is that. They didn't put a gun to Vlad's head and forced him to invade. And the war is so miserably in part because Putin apparently can't plan an invasion to save his life. Literally even.
The more I read and hear about this whole debacle I keep finding things to be amazed by in how unrealistically stupid they sound and If someone had written this all down and sent this back to a year ago for me to read I would accuse them of being a fucking hack who'd read entirely too much Tom Clancy.
Just the fact that apparently that Russian intelligence can discover a Ukrainian position and it will take from 48-72 hours for a fire mission or airstrike to actually attempt to hit that position, which often hits nothing because the Ukrainians have better things to do then wait 3 days for the Russians to shoot at them, is fucking mind boggling. Or the fact even high ranking Russian officials didn't know when the invasion was going to happen and only found out after it had already started, let alone the average soldier, who was apparently given orders like "We're invading Ukraine. Follow the vehicle in front of you and take Kyiv by tomorrow" and that was the only briefing they got. It's like every rookie mistake I can think of rolled into one massive clusterfuck and they're stuck in it because withdrawing would be an indication of weakness now, no matter how many have to die and how many tanks need to eject their turrets into Low Earth Orbit in the meantime.
This whole thing is a stupid unforced tragedy that is only slightly alleviated by the sheer amount of meme worthy dark comedy it's generated. I'd call this Amateur hour but we're coming up on a year now.
