Because of course she is. Never mind she was kind of into Erond in the first game. Never mind she's shown herself as rather asexual in Forbidden West.

At this point it's just better to assume every character is gay until shown otherwise. No wonder I prefer Japanese media these days.

Well....at least Aloy has good taste in women.

Honestly, I don't care and don't see the big deal. I "get it", but Japan can have the opposite problem at times. Or constantly play the ambiguously gay angle. No media is perfect. The reactionaries would do their usual thing, and then forget about it within the next week. Moving on.

The problem is that its just so predictable at this point, "strong" female character = lesbian. And its kinda sexist too in its own way, it just place female character in very narrow role.

And games like Streets of Rage 4, River City Girls 1 & 2, Bot Vice, Celeste, Bayonetta, Dandara, and Parasite Eve prove you don't need a "strong" female character to be lesbian or bi. Honestly, this problem dates back to Legend of Korra when KorraXAsami became a thing without much build or explanation. Yeah, they bonded and eased into friendship, but not enough for that. Even then, they couldn't show them kissing (due to Nick's TV practices at time). Mike and Bryan were looking for diversity points with no effort. It pains to say that a lot. Plus, LoK always had a huge problem with focusing too much on pairings and shipping at the expense of the plot. Don't even get me started on that awful "love triangle" in the first two season. They made Twilight and Inuyasha look like Shakespeare by comparison.

Um, by what metric?

"Strong female character" is a nonsensical term that shouldn't exist, but I doubt I could even name 10 lesbian characters in games, period, and certainly not 20. The idea that "strong female character" = lesbian isn't borne out by statistics as far as I can tell.

Also, homosexual=lesbian. Super progressive and yet also acceptable because men (the producers and the target audience) find it sexy. You won't see that trend with male homosexuals any time soon.

You also usually see acceptance of women by the lesbian character, but no explicit rejection of males. In the eyes of the male public and producers, the lesbian is still "available", so no biggie. The real taboo isn't breached.

I don't trust Atari, and why would you idiots buy Bubsy of all things?

Not interested, and will be paying attention to other games.

Fuck off Sony.

As I've said before, I will always laugh in the faces of these scalpers. They deserve every bit of profit loss

Atari has learned absolutely nothing, and if they had the power over the market today that they did back in the '80s then we'd be looking at a second gaming crash.

Also, at no point was Bubsy ever good. I rented the first game once and found it to be annoying and derivative, a desperate attempt to force a new mascot into popularity, and everything I've heard about it since then tells me that it only ever got worse.

A friend of mine gave the second game to me for free. I sold it at some point.

Atari is just a name that's passed around nowadays, the company behind it now is not the company that was behind it back in the 80s. And I don't mean that employees walked out and new ones came in.

What's wrong with characters being gay? And what's better about characters being default straight?

Aloy, nor any other character in "Japanese media" is going to jump out of the screen and suck you off.

Uh, no she wasn't. He flirts with her the first time they meet to which she has pretty much no real response. That's it. Also, it's optional. You could also optionally reciprocate Avad's feelings at the start of Forbidden West. Soooo... 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, because japanese media certainly has none of that. Unlike the west they don't have entire genre's named for their gay content.

Also, important to note the vast majority of characters in fiction are still straight, but one or two videogame characters come out and it's all 'geez, why is everyone gay now'.

Yeah, I kinda feel like I should point out that most of the really popular anime of the last few seasons have been varying degrees of queer, mostly lesbian, but this is also a videogame thread, so...

Anyway, y'all see the new Splatfest?
