I never played original RE2 so I have no idea what was lost or changed or added so that's a moot point for me.
And that's you a problem, so I suggest you find a way to play (modified PC port, if you rig is at a decent power), if you choose. Unless, you've actually played, or a the very least watched some playthroughs, your opinion don't count for jack shit. Now I give you heads up, most of the original games have huge jank in certain regards and those tank controls have not aged well. With RE1 being the worse of course. OG RE3 has the best of the tank controls of the PSX titles, and RE1R doe this even better. Especially if you're playing the modern ports on HD consoles where it gives you the option to play with modern controls.

So, you're in agreement that RE2 Remake wouldn't be a good movie assuming it was a movie (vs a game) and the story and characters were what they are in the game?
No. You don't listen a lot. Pay close attention and actually learn something. Note I how I said the live-action movies from Paul WS Anderson. Those ones suck, because they were made by a guy that doesn't give a shit. The Netflix series and Welcome to Racoon City are shit, because Capcom is just licensing to whoever without any forethought nor foresight. An RE1, RE2, or RE3 proper adaption can work. Huge unintentional camp, or more subtle camp. Doesn't make too much of a difference as long as the person in charge and those on the production team actually care. Not rushing or throwing in lazy fan-service for the sake of member berries. We've already had this discussion, and I'm not wasting time on a back and forth with this. Either you get it or you don't (want to) get it. Done here.

I never played them because the gameplay and tank controls. Thus, why I tried the remake. Why do I have to have played the original to have an opinion on RE2 Remake? Is the game not supposed to stand on its own? My opinion of the remake doesn't care about the original and what was changed/not changed so I have no preconceived notions or biases going in when I played the remake. The characters and story weren't nearly entertaining/interesting enough for me to care about, I don't see how playing the original would have changed any of that. Or if I needed that original experience, it means the remake doesn't stand on its own and obviously has a major issue then.

I was responding to your following line that you said. How else was I to interpret it other than I did? You said if RE2 Remake was a movie, you wouldn't even give it a 4-5/10 meaning you didn't think it was good in that area...? I know the 2nd sentence there is referring to the live-action movies. Btw, I found both those 1st 2 live-action movies more entertaining story/character-wise than RE2 Remake. The 1st movie is played pretty straight and works well enough. The 2nd movie is not played straight and has enough fun with itself to be entertaining. I think I saw the next 2 but they were garbage and never even checked out the last one or last 2, the movie series went on for way too many movies.
If RE2 Remake was a movie, I wouldn't even call it a 4 or 5 out of 10. That belongs to the actual first two live action Resident Evil movies.

Whatever you're going on about Phoenix, I'm not wasting eye strain on. Don't care.

Fans are modding the parry mechanic into the PC version of OG RE4. Now that is dedication!

Stop yelling at people for not listening to you when what you posted could be misinterpreted or perhaps you even made a mistake and worded it wrong. Do you not realize how abrasive you come off? I'm literally just talking about Resident Evil, figured that was allowed in a Resident Evil thread... guess not.

Then why'd you reply in the 1st place if you didn't care?

I just found out there's a DLC code for people that pre-ordered through GameStop. I have one on my receipt and it gives you a handgun ammo charm and the golden attaché case (you get more money drops). There is no other means to get this DLC, unless Capcom decides to added to the digital stores. I wish devs would stop doing this. Capcom did a similar thing with RE3R with Jill's classic costume, but that did eventually get put on digital stores. Here's hoping they do the same.
The pre-order bonuses are now available via DLC on all platforms.

Remember when these were unique selling points? Good times....not really....

Note: I am mainly referring to the "ADVANCED AI/CUNNING ENEMIES!", and the "BEHIND THE CAMERA VIEW!". Not knocking the enemy AI, but the Ganados and some of the Las Plagas monsters in RE4 OG are lethargic compared to the ones in RE4R or later over-the-shoulder shooters from 7th generation and further (not all games obviously). "BEHIND THE CAMERA VIEW!" started becoming old hat and normalized by 2009 for me. I know the Wii release came out in 2007 for the States, EU, and AU, so it had the right to boast at the time. Funny enough, Japan got the Wii version last in 2008.

A Resident Evil 4 Remake version of Separate Ways was first spotted by dataminer Gosetsu back in March, and Capcom has now made it official, confirming it'll release for $9.99 USD - alongside a free update to Resident Evil 4's wave-based Mercenaries mode introducing Ada Wong and Albert Wesker - on 21st September.

I remember being kinda disappointed by Separate Ways in the original, and having no desire to go back to it after getting the last achievement for unlocking the Mafia Leon costume. This looks like it's taking the basic ideas of that mode and reworking them into a new and better form; Ada seems to have a different playstyle to Leon using that grappling hook rather than simply being a cut-down version of him, and that there's more unique areas for her to go through.

And 'old idea done new and better' is when the RE Engine remakes are at their best, so hopefully Separate Ways will be another feather for that overstuffed cap.

The original Separate Ways was just a 3 hour bonus campaign you got for free simply for beating the game. It was Ada's side of the story, basically weaving in and out between Leon's chapter breaks. It was short, level-based and 90% made of reused assets. Nothing much to it, just a fun extra thing to spend a couple of hours on.

If the "new and improved" Separate Ways is just *that* but 10 bucks, no thank you. It needs to be game-sized and different enough if they want me to spend even more money on this thing.

Obviously, I can't speak to its length, but it does at least look to me like they're changing enough things to justify its existence.

Anyway, how big is 'game-sized', to you? How long is a piece of string?

Separate Ways I never played, because I only had the GC version, and that mode only appears on PS2 and nearly everything else afterwards. If I remember correctly Assignment Ada was even worse.

That's why I'm excited. For example, Ada gets the laser hallway now as seen in the trailer. Oh, and Luis teams up with her too, like Leon.

I'm going to get it any way. Gives me an extra reason to pop the game back in, along with the free Mercenaries update. Here's hoping they add a few more stages as well to Mercenaries.

Well it's definitely not the case of the original Separate Ways. Not just because it's a breezy 3 hours at best, it's also on the cheap side (gimmicky, simplified, reused assets, narratively irrelevant, suspiciously quiet characters because they couldn't get the voice actors back). It's a tacked-on bonus level. It's essentially the Catwoman DLC for Arkham City. Would you describe that as game-sized, or rather game-shaped, in of itself?

Does it matter? We're talking about the remake of Separate Ways here, and while I can't speak to all of those qualities being improved upon from one trailer, I'd be pretty surprised if it was just like the original based on said trailer, at least the way you described it. At the very least, they definitely still have the voice actors on call for original dialogue, there's several areas that weren't seen in the main game, and I'd be genuinely surprised if it added nothing at all to the story. 'Gimmicky' and 'simplified' are a little too personal to properly answer.

As I said before, what the REmakes are best at is taking those old things that kinda worked but kinda don't anymore, and making them into something interesting. Though from the way you're talking about it, I doubt there's anything I could say that'll change your mind...

What I got from the trailer is that they doubled down on cutscenes and Ada can now Zip-Kick ala Robin, to continue the Arkham City DLC comparison. Apparently she's also fighting a Verdugo instead of Krauser (?), and gets the cable car set piece that was missing from Leon's campaign.

My position is the $10 DLC has to do much more than simply remake the original FREE bonus campaign with a couple of neat little twists.
