The thing that really bothered me about what happened in Georgia this week is the sheriff and the DA both said Trump would be treated like any other defendant.
Like any other.
So excuse us while we shut down the entire airspace of an entire city for 12 hours for Trump, excuse us while we coordinate a 20 car, thousand officer armored caravan of security, excuse us while we let his secretary fill out his fraudulent paperwork days before his arrest, excuse us while we spend all of 15min processing this guy and letting him go, all being paid for by you the loyal tax payer.
I don't get why Georgians aren't up in arms, outraged at this "fair and equal" treatment. Trump shut down an entire city just by arriving. He's accused of treason, why does he still have a security detail, and why is it larger than Biden, who is the actual sitting president?!
Also, that's not how mugshots are meant to be taken. Look straight ahead, no expression.
They let them grandstand the whole thing, and it was definitely a deliberate perfotmance.

Also also he openly says he may just flee to Russia to avoid prosecution. And he's not deemed a flight risk because...what, the totally ethical secret service won't let him? His pilots are just golly gee wilikers patriotic Americans who will put the good of the country ahead of their mob boss?

The secret service being apparently loyal to Trump is strange. Didn’t Trump made it a point to rob them during his presidency? Forcing them to pay fees to be in his property to protect him. You’d think they’d want some revenge about that.

Probably just paid with government credit cards, because it’s an expense they would not incur anywhere but their job.

IIRC, it caused problems because they've only got a finite budget for that and he decided to eat a lot of it. For the people on the ground, not their problem, though.

The Secret Service recruits almost exclusively from ex military operatives. And those people are almost exclusively far right wing religious fanatics. So you have the Military cult, followed by the Secret Service cult followed by the Trump cult. These people are the distilled Trump fanatics who will do anything, and I mean anything, for their God Emperor.

Trump unwisely ran his mouth off after losing the case against E. Jean Carroll, and the judge has decided that another trial isn't necessary, a jury just needs to decide how much more money Trump can hand over.

Because Trump still cannot grasp the idea of there being consequences for anything he does.

For a very long time there effectively weren't any tho, and still aren't in a lot of cases. Including here. What is the real consequence? It has to pay damages? No doubt not from its money tho, donations will foot the bill.

Deluded old man.

In an interview on “The Hugh Hewitt Show” that dropped Wednesday, the host asked Trump, “Did you direct anyone to move the boxes, Mr. President? Did you tell anyone to move the boxes?” referring to the boxes of more than 300 classified documents the federal government seized last year from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

“I don’t talk about anything. You know why? Because I’m allowed to do whatever I want. I come under the Presidential Records Act,” Trump replied, while also taking a quick detour to bash Hewitt. “I’m not telling you. You know, every time I talk to you, ‘Oh, I have a breaking story.’ You don’t have any story. I come under the Presidential Records Act. I’m allowed to do everything I did.”

Trump has long been misrepresenting what is allowed under the Presidential Records Act.

The law states: “Upon the conclusion of a President’s term of office, or if a President serves consecutive terms upon the conclusion of the last term, the Archivist of the United States shall assume responsibility for the custody, control, and preservation of, and access to, the Presidential records of that President.” There is an allowance for presidents to keep records that are of “a purely private or nonpublic character” and unrelated to presidential duties, but many of the documents Trump was found to possess came from government agencies, such as the C.I.A. and Department of Defense. Trump even bragged on tape post-presidency about holding on to plans for war with Iran.

Yup. He thinks the law doesn't really apply because *gestures at his history*

"Well, if the President does it, it's not illegal." -Richard Milhouse Nixon. Who, incidentally, was the first president to have all of the letters of the word "criminal" in his full name. The second? William Jefferson Clinton.

'Alina Habba, Trump’s general counsel, described the Trump Organization as “an American success story” and called the judge’s ruling “fundamentally flawed”.'

Yes, an American success story: born to a multimillionaire property developer, inherited most of his wealth, and apparently used plentiful fraud to maintain his own business empire. A lesson to us all about how to get ahead in the USA.

I think a comment I saw on this pretty much sums it up:

"
Donald Trump’s father, Fred Trump, founded the Trump Organization in 1927 — that’s 96 years ago.

And today, a judge ruled that the Trump Organization will be dissolved because Donald Trump falsified business records.

Donald Trump lost his father’s business.

I bet that hurts. Good."

It's not really going to be dissolved, though, is it?

At the bare minimum, if the paper entity of the "Trump Organization" is dissolved, it's still Donald Trump's property and a new paper entity will take things over, in a thoroughly plus ca change sort of way. And Trump can be nominally banned from running it, but that will mean he'll just get a catspaw to sign everything off anyway. That said, the Trump Organization might actually do better without Trump running it, as years of financial releases have suggested.

He's losing something either way.
