People complain about Call of Duty and other AAA titles taking up too much system storage, but current indie darling Helldivers II requires 100GB of space and I haven't heard a single peep about it.

Ah, well if it's quarantined on just that platform, maybe some crazy texture or language packs?
Anyway COD is like 300 gig, without even having to go into the numerous other reasons they excel at making the worst of their bloated file sizes.

That's only if you include Warzone, which is technically a separate game that is "bundled" with each copy of COD. In MW2019 it couldn't be removed, but in every subsequent call of duty it's actually an optional download.

For MWIII (the most recent game), if you just want to play the multiplayer it's a 79GB download. You can download the campaign, multiplayer, and Warzone all separately, so it significantly shrinks the file size.

Did, uh...did you just advertise cod to me there lol? Was this all just an elaborate promotion strategy? S+ for effort if so! Asuming you talk from PC experience only, I did try COD not (too?) long ago on consoles: bought Cold War and the one before it on sale to check out the campaigns. Except it didn't download the campaigns when I clicked the download button, it auto downloaded the F2P behemoth instead. Wasn't informed whatsoever beforehand, during or after. Booted up thinking "ah, fun shoots about to finally begin!" Only to find the menu shaking its head in disappointment, saying i hadn't downloaded required content. So downloaded what looked like it wanted me download, to be denied access to product I just bought yet again. Tried 1 more pack and after that denial resorted to downloading all of them instead. Shoddy internet connection over a couple of days, never had a new console game be so exasperating merely to access before, the memory ain't fading anytime soon, lol. Though am aware PC owners are likely less bothered by pre-access faffing to games. Master race giveth and taketh it appears. 😉

I'd say that's more of a failing of the Playstation store, which has always been absolutely awful to use (and I say this as someone who owns every console to use the Playstation store).

I don't think anyone needs to advertise CoD, at this point everyone knows what it is and either loves it or hates it (or hates it but buys every new game and plays it every day anyway). I just think that a lot of the hate that it gets is from people who don't even play it and only have 3rd hand experiences that are wildly wrong.

Still doesn't excuse (I know you're not) the constant homogenization, lots of the sequels varying in quality, but most turning out mediocre later, the crappy DLCs/Season Passes/Loot Boxes, relying on FOMO, and these games becoming creatively bankrupt in general.

That's what I'm saying. There's plenty of reasons to criticize a lot of the Call of Duty (and other AAA titles) without needing to make up problems with them, especially when those same problems are now creeping up outside of the AAA game space.

Im still awe of that fact that Ubisofts Skull & Bones launched at and is still at $69.99 on consoles. Like its not divided praise or criticism. Its been paned across the board. Not just for its gameplay, but theres now side by side comparison videos online showing a graphical step down from ACIV. Ubisoft absolutely knew this was coming. They knew this was, at best a budget title. I mean..the stones on Ubisoft

I am shocked and in awe of the

I imagine it may have something to do with their contract with the Singapore government that the game studio had to release a "AAA" game. It could also just be greed and incompetence.

No. I'm sick of that dumb take. This isn't the first time this question has been asked, nor the last. There always be a place for superheroes no matter what anybody thinks.

Perhaps but our cynical age does have its effect on the superhero genre.

That is nothing new. It's the same crap we've heard in the 90s, 2000s, and parts of the 2010s. Superheroes will always constantly evolved or change in different forms. Even in a cynical time, they're positive influence will always be important. They survived this long for a good reason. So long as people care to tell good stories or do them in unique and interesting ways, superheroes will always thrive and survive. It's only the really badly done or written stories that don't make it anywhere or stay stuck in a decade they were created. The same applies to most deconstructions. Most of them don't do a good job of deconstructing anything or just hating on the people who love this stuff.

This time stamp only further proves my point.

I remember last week that Dunkey put out a compilation video of all these different YouTube users and critics saying how the PS5 is now worthless because it doesn't have any (first party) exclusive now. I'm not coming to the defensive sony, but this is a load of click baiting crap. Don't get me wrong, Sony still screwed up by trying to go all in a live service and already having to cancel most of their live service games. Not to mention them going over budget with a lot of their single player games. With that said the situation is not completely hopeless people. Stop this. There's still plenty of third party exclusives coming out to the ps5. FF7 Rebirth comes out this week for Christ sakes. I may not be getting the game, but we already know it's going to sell bangers. Rise of Ronin comes out next month. Not to mention some of those Xbox exclusives coming to PS5 now. You get HF Rush on ps5 later in March. For those that weren't interested in an Xbox, you have no right to complain right now if you're interested in this game but didn't want to pay $500 just for one game. There are least tons of games to play. If you really just came to this console for the first party exclusives, then that's really on you. You have every right to get what you want to get and play, but it's called up your variety and play other games once in a while. Otherwise, you got plenty to pick and choose from. Now I will say Sony better get off their ass and actually stop having their ego get so inflated. The new guy in charge is not helping and I really hope he steps down real soon.

With "has the world become too...?" sort of questions in regards to taste or mood (or vibes I guess?), they're inherently misleading and ultimately meaningless when trying to interpret them at face value on their own terms, presupposing an illusionary world population who's simple scope isn't so large and diverse where there's a place for almost anything anyone likes no matter what kinda 'vibe-checks' the current, local group of humans can mostly agree they're recieving from their choice of media absorbtion lately.

Console is still preferable to me than PC for various reasons, so it ain't worthless yet, no matter what they wanna put out there.

Even Bloodborne.

Yes....especially Bloodborne.

I dare Sony to do Bloodborne.

Come on Sony...

you can do it!

Please unlock the damn 30fps lock, it's been years, these eyes grow heavy

Also games preservation in archives for the future of humanity that doesn't kill itself is important, alongside easier pirating options in case your consoles or games won't function anymore, so I'd have thought it only a positive for the people who consider themselves a regular enjoyer of the games.

Stop doing fucking face scans you dumbass western devs. You are either garbage at doing them so much that I have seen better facial models in games from the 2000s, or your acting in bad faith for some BlackRock-based ESG agenda.
