But there's all the fun (and more importantly, plausibly deniable) "proxy wars" everyone who was anyone on the world stage enjoyed.
Excellent premise for a Splinter Cell title as well!! Just saying, for all the "bang, bang, kill the other guys" games we have, there's an untapped market of "sneaky sneak, still their data" game...

Yeah, the stories of the cod games tend to have aspects that could be really cool, but then they eff it up. The best story was from COD4, that was just solid. The other MW games went stupid and over the top with it. The story for blops and blops 2 was fine. Inifinite was ok, but the "we are the victims" was at its peak with it. Advanced had some really cool directions it could have gone, but it was also one of those that just turned out ok. Ghost just had a bad story staight up, it was just stupid and more racist then cod tends to be. WW2, holy shit that was a bad almost to the point of parody ww2 story.

I feel like I'm one of the few people who actually liked Advanced Warfare, but I basically viewed it as CoD doing a James Bond movie with Kevin Spacey playing a full bond villian. Granted, Spacey being the villian now feels a bit icky in retrospect.

Not to say it doesn't have other problems, but it had some really fun missions.

This would be the perfect premise for another Splinter Cell (yes, I'm going to bring it up as often as I can because I'm angry and tired of being teased, Ubisoft.)
How many collectables and xp boosters do you think they can cram into it? Also, TOWERS! TOWERS TO CLIMB EVERYWHERE!

A big brother's government, who will promise loads of things...

This may work on the mouthbreathers who buy COD no matter what and mindlessly buy FIFA, and or Madden. But it's an anti-progressive message.
I mean, we had Ghosts, which played into the far right wet dream of brown people invading the US, but only after hijacking our doomsday weapon(which we were right to build because we were gonna use it for the right reasons).

Is no one going to mention how COD has now completed almost two cycles of settings? They went WWII, Modern Warfare, Cold War, Futuristic Shit, Space, then back to WWII, Modern Warfare, and now Cold War.

That is... insane to me. I haven't given a shit about COD in a good long time (although the MW reboot interested me a bit). But you can't deny that the series has been successful enough to pump out so many games that they've needed to start repeating themselves.

Anyway, meh. Never was a fan of Treyarch's shtick. They've always had a tendency to overdesign their games visually.

Star Wars: Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight. Good game but man that title just kept going.
Bah, that's amateur hour. There's a Japanese game (because of course it is) called:

夏色ハイスクール★青春白書 ~転校初日のオレが幼馴染と再会したら報道部員にされていて激写少年の日々スクープ大連発でイガイとモテモテなのに何故かマイメモリーがパンツ写真ばっかりという電実と向き合いながら考えるひと夏の島の学園生活と赤裸々な恋の行方。~”

Which roughly translates to Summer-Colored High School ★ Adolescent Record – A Summer At School On An Island Where I Contemplate How The First Day After I Transferred, I Ran Into A Childhood Friend And Was Forced To Join The Journalism Club Where While My Days As A Paparazzi Kid With Great Scoops Made Me Rather Popular Among The Girls, But Strangely My Camera Is Full Of Panty Shots, And Where My Candid Romance Is Going. –

So succinctly elegant, it just rolls off the tongue.

Isn't the term "Cold War" used to describe a state of political threats and hostilities between two or more nations without actual warfare? I mean this premise flies in the face of a notoriously action-based shooter, does it not? Unless the game is a walking simulator which would be a fairly jarring turn of pace for the franchise...

HOWEVER...

This would be the perfect premise for another Splinter Cell (yes, I'm going to bring it up as often as I can because I'm angry and tired of being teased, Ubisoft.)
I had the exact splinter cell thought before the "however" was uttered too.

You didn't even need to mention it was Japanese or include the original language; with a title like that, anyone would realise its origins.

Advanced Warfare was probably one of my favorite cod games, the multi was a blast and I really liked how the mobility in it worked, more then in the other games, even though they didn't utilize the setting of the story the best Spacey was a decent villain. Like, what AW could have don't was lean more into the mercenary aspect of it, which would have really fit the cod series. Instead they start you off by really just trying to hunt down this one terrorist guy with no presence at all, your just going after him and his followers, then when they are dealt with, Spacey as the real bad guy happens. Instead of that lead us down the path of doing some dubious things under his command, then have him go all cobra commander.

Ye gad.

I thought "Dr. Strangelove; Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb" was a tad excessive.

Japan, we need to talk.

First "Revengence", then "Ground Zeros" and now this?

What's your issue with "Revengeance?" It's "vengeance twice" or "the state of taking revenge" according to the website I just created for that citation.

And still....

They just been constantly following trends for the most part. Rarely changing in much.

This makes me sad because it's a very real possibility. Just remaster Chaos Theory, Ubisoft, and I'll get off your case.

Also, the lack of context when quoting someone who's quoted someone else is slightly infuriating...

It just comes across as damn awkward. There's "Revenge" and "Vengeance" but nope, let's go for the weird archaic version which looks like you're merely combining the two. If it were set in an era where that's a common phrase (Like how Black Flag used "Freebooter" as a term for "Pirate") it would be one thing, but this is a dystopin cyberpunk-ish hack and slash game.

Yes, I know it's petty.

I would love to play Beyond Good and Evil 2.

Just not what Ubisoft is presumably working on by that name. From what we saw a couple years ago(before they went silent again), it looked like every other UBISOFT GAME but with mutiple maps....er...so like every other UBISOFT GAME.

Trying to play through WW2 which I was borrowed. From a gameplay perspective the campaigns in these games still have about as much thought put into them as someone flinging a can of paint on a wall and leaving the room. Fuck me is it frustrating restarting a checkpoint only to die randomly running two feet in any direction.

Oh goody, another capitalism/communism/socialism debate. This time, within the first two pages of a thread.
