"The moderators of r/animemes aren't actually part of the anime community" is a hell of a take.
Not really, given that less than 5 mods control the top 92 subreddits. Powermods are a real problem. It's very possible that people who have no interest in a subject could gain control over that subreddit.

Context is, as ever, of paramount importance.

Please understand.

I don't have anything to contribute, except problematic content.

A classic. Man, 2014 was such a fun time around here.

That's exactly my point, thank you.
You cut half the sentence there.

Just like the gender identity and sexual preference of the performers is irrelevant, so too are the gender identity and sexual preferences of "traps", because "trap", used in these contexts, is just another tag, like "straight" or "lesbian".
The context being porn?

The context being that these people are actaully being paid to embody your deeply unpleasant, ugly, incredibly queerphobic and transphobic fantasy?

It;s weird how all this has flipped hasn't it. We've gone from you claiming that the word trap is positive, that it's just an objective description of a way of life or state of being which is totally cool and inoffensive and respectful of self-expression, to you now admitting that it's a heterosexual fantasy, but a fantasy we aren't allowed to criticise for some reason despite the fact that it's not a generous or respectful fantasy at all.

You don't say that "lesbian" is inaccurate because the performers might be straight or that one or both of them are trans.
It is inaccurate, because all porn is inaccurate. It's fake. Porn is fake. Did you not understand that point?

Tagging a scene with two straight women ineptly fingering each other as "lesbian" is only "accurate" in the sense that it depicts a fantasy of what heterosexual men think lesbianism is. It is an objectified view of lesbianism for people who only engage with lesbianism as something which exists for their voyeuristic benefit. And the prevalence of "lesbians" in porn does have huge consequences for actual lesbians and bi women. Lesbophobia has a very particular character, one which is deeply rooted in straight men's fantasies and beliefs about lesbians, the idea that lesbian relationships are inauthentic, purely sexual and exist primarily as a vehicle for heterosexual men's entertainment. Porn has played a huge part in that.

Lesbians do not exist for your entertainment.

Cis-male GNC people do not exist for your entertainment.

Trans people do not exist for your entertainment.

Porn may tell you otherwise. But who cares? Porn is fake.

When you were asked if a woman character who acted and identified as a woman but was born with a penis, aka a trans-woman, was a trap, you said yes.
Apple is a fruit but not all fruits are apples.

A trans person can be a trap, but not all traps are trans people, it also applies to non-trans crossdressers too. And those tend to be the majority, making the term one which is mainly, primarily, almost exclusively used to describe the non-trans variety of chars.

So yeah, it's all about the context. What you wanna do is take it on a case by case basis and judge accordingly if you're a moderator. Not just ban the word that applies to this specific thing, a thing which by definition is a cis character.
I know there has been 10 pages here, but where exactly have I disagreed with this? Since we are 'going in circles"

You implied that it needed rehabilitation in the post I was quoting when I wrote what you just quoted, correct? If not, my bad. But if you did indeed imply that, that's disagreeing with that sentiment, the one about how you can have terms used as insults to groups yet still not need to rehabilitate their specialist-context-use.

"The moderators of r/animemes aren't actually part of the anime community" is a hell of a take.

Have you considered the possibility that at least some of the people who don't like using "trap" to refer to every crossdresser or trans woman in anime might also like anime? Like, shit man, Ranma 1/2 influenced half the trans people I know.
Houseman already put it perfectly, the mods are just not representative of the community. Otherwise they'd not be met with the reaction that they indeed were met with.

I think that if those people truly like anime, they are doing it a disservice by making a big deal out of this issue which does nothing to better anime. They have their priorities messed up.

Where I grew up they never showed Ranma so I am not personally versed in it but I did have interest in the series, I will add it to my retro night (next thing on that is mahou kishi rayearth :D) but yeah, as far as I can tell, the plot in the ranma story is the protag by the same name gets cursed and when hit by cold water he changes sex, which is just the premise of Lunch from dragonball where she sneezed and she switched from a yamato nadeshiko to an american girl. Now, I do think this is a flimsy premise to build an anime on, but I did enjoy that one show about witches putting plane rotor boots and wearing no pants while fighting aliens, and there's a panda martial artist according to the ranma fighting game, so I'm sure I'll enjoy it plenty.

But yeah, isn't that sorta bad for trans people in the sense that it implies it's a choice and you can switch back and forth, and that you were not, in fact, born in this one immutable state of being a woman but just in the wrong body? Wouldn't the people who'd be upset over people calling cis traps traps be insanely mad over this? I find it odd that one accepts ranma's premise but has an issue with a term, hence why I can't see the two groups being one and the same.

You seem to be contradicting yourself here.
The character has no way of knowing what is in the mind of the trap and whether they identify as male or female or what have you so he will perceive everyone male as being cis because that's the normal thing characters do. Basically the term is fundamentally one where there never was any contemplation about trans people in its inception in the first place, but if there were any trans traps, they'd be treated the same as males as far as traps are concerned.

This is why I've been saying all this time that this isn't even to do about what you identify with, only with what you look like and what your body is. Trying to twist it around to have to do with your feelings misses the point and makes it be about something it isn't.

The context being porn?
The context being a descriptor that isn't meant to be an exhaustive and comprehensive summary of everything a person is.

Lesbians do not exist for your entertainment.

Cis-male GNC people do not exist for your entertainment.

Trans people do not exist for your entertainment.
"Trap" is a term made for entertainment. It's a game in itself. "Is this a boy or a girl? Is there going to be a dick or not? Play the game and find out!"
The game is at the expense of the "macho" guy who gets it wrong and ends up being attracted to something he claims to not be attracted to. Nobody is bulled or made fun of and gender identity never comes into it.

Man, I love stuff like this.

They targeted Weebs.

Weebs.

We're a group of people who will sit for hours, days, even weeks on end performing some of the hardest, most mentally demanding tasks that is watching anime. Over, and over, and over all for nothing.

We'll punish our selves watching things others would consider torture, because we think it's fun.

We'll spend most if not all of our free time worshiping a fictional character all to prove our waifu is best.

Many of us have made careers out of doing just these things: slogging through the grind, all day, the same shit over and over, hundreds of times to the point where we know every little detail such that some have attained such weeb nirvana that they can literally watch these animes blindfolded.

Do these people have any idea how many DVD players have been smashed, systems over heated, disks and vhs destroyed 8n frustration? All to latter be referred to as bragging rights?

These people honestly think this is a battle they can win? They take our sub? We're already building a new one without them. They take our slurs? Weebs aren't shy about throwing their money else where. They think calling us racist, misogynistic, rape apologists is going to change us? We've been called worse things by prepubescent 10 year olds. They picked a fight against a group that's already grown desensitized to their strategies and methods. Who enjoy the battle of attrition they've threatened us with. Who take it as a challenge when they tell us we no longer matter. Our obsession with proving we can after being told we can't is so deeply ingrained from years of dealing with big brothers/sisters and friends laughing at how pathetic we used to be that proving you people wrong has become a very real need; a honed reflex.

Weebs are competitive, hard core, by nature. We love a challenge. The worst thing mods did in all of this was to challenge us. Mods are not special, mods are not original, they are not the first; this is just another boss fight.

That's one of the legit saddest things I've ever read.
Don't worry, it's not serious. This was originally copypasta about gamers.

Should have put a line in there about Endless Eight. Now that was a slog.

I'm a very self-deprecating person, so I guess that's why I find fun and laughter in such things.

I'm not sure why you don't just use the term "transvestite." Some people consider it offensive (I don't know why), but it's certainly less loaded with derogatory associations than "trap" is.
Sorry for the extremely late reply but yeah you do have a point. The only reason why I haven't is because its definition has been muddied over the years that people don't know what it means anymore. People would assume I'm trans because its literally in the name when it has a different definition. And there is the negative connotation (for lack of a better word) from the term as you mentioned but it seems that being either a crossdresser or trans is going to be offensive to someone.

I have called myself a drag queen in the past for lack of a better term and the fact that I don't think I pass too well but that's more about the performance than I guess an identity thing. I do respect them don't get me wrong but its from what I understand anyways. And even that has its negative associations. Idk maybe we can't win with people?

I posted my evidence on page 1.

Here's some more evidence:
View attachment 602

So where's your evidence?
Don't have any?
Okay then.
You didn't pick a credible site, post your source, or cite it at all. You evidence is worthless. You may as well have used urban dictionary. You can't just post a screen shot, and say that it supports your thesis. The only thing it proves is that you're not the only person who uses that definition... which simply means that it's possible that two people are wrong.

I always found the words transvestite and drag queen to sound rude and offensive. While terms like tranny and trap are cute and endearing. That's just me of course.

Yes, that was exactly my point. I'm demonstrating that most everybody who uses the word, uses it the same way I do, by way of finding actual definitions of the word being used in the wild. You're not. Terminal Blue isn't. Trunkage isn't. Thaluikhain isn't.
Nobody else is.
Because they can't.
Because they're wrong.

Nobody in this thread can show me any evidence of it being used as a slur, despite claiming as such.

I, however, can find multiple examples of it not being used as a slur, used on sites visited by millions.
Here's some more for you:

The one before was from D1-booru.
Here's one from G-booru:
1598203881155.png

Here's another from D2-booru
1598203919408.png

Here's one from site code-named "pudding"
1598204618269.png

The names of these sites have been censored so that our pg-13 audience doesn't accidentally discover them.

If you want to ignore or dismiss all this, then there's nothing more I can say to convince you.
