Trump Announces 'Patriotic Education' Commission, A Largely Political Move
Trump decries what he says are a "twisted web of lies" being taught in U.S. classrooms about systemic racism in America. But the federal government does not have jurisdiction over school curriculum.

Trump talks a lot about the real education of American history. Yet he's against the 1619 project. In austere, starkly divisive remarks, President Trump on Thursday said he would create a commission to promote "patriotic education" and announced the creation of a grant to develop a "pro-American curriculum." The move is largely political — a reaction to a growing push by some academics for schools to teach an American history that better acknowledges slavery and systemic racism.
In the speech, Trump decried what he said was a "twisted web of lies" being taught in U.S. classrooms about systemic racism in America, calling it "a form of child abuse." He reprised themes from a speech he gave in July at Mount Rushmore.
"Teaching this horrible doctrine to our children is a form of child abuse, the truest sense," Trump said. "For many years now, the radicals have mistaken Americans' silence for weakness. They're wrong. There is no more powerful force than a parent's love for their children. And patriotic moms and dads are going to demand that their children are no longer fed hateful lies about this country."
So, re-education of a nation's Youth to better indoctrinate them to an ultra right wing cause, check. Pointing fingers at powerless minorities to incense a populous looking for someone to blame besides themselves for all of their woes, check. Propaganda on a minority group to entice the majority against them, check. Patriotic citizens willing to excuse said actions and/or ready to go to war against others for... really just propaganda, check.President Trump is weighing in on history, blasting the New York Times Magazine's 1619 Project, which reframes America's history by focusing on the consequences of slavery and contributions of Black Americans, and at the same time announcing the creation of a new "1776 commission" to reinstate "patriotism" in American schools.
At a White House history conference Thursday, he said that the Times had defiled the story of America.
"The left has warped, distorted, and defiled the American story with deceptions, falsehoods, and lies. There is no better example than the New York Times' totally discredited 1619 Project," Mr. Trump said at the event. "This project rewrites American history to teach our children that we were founded on the principle of oppression, not freedom."
Seems like we're ruled by a Despot. Now we just have to see if he's more like Stalin, Pol Pot, or the Big H.
