Resident Evil 1 - Chris and Rebecca and Jill and Barry could just be working as teams.

Resident Evil 2 - No reason that Claire and Leon aren't working together the whole time. They always end up in the same place.

Resident Evil 3 - Jill and Carlos.

Resident Evil 0 - Rebecca and Billy (you're controlling both of them at the same time anyway, might as well make it a coop game).

Code Veronica - Claire and Steve
The Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles both on Wii & PS3 already did that. Umbrella Chronicles had Chris and Jill team up in the mansion and in a new scenario that happens way later in the timeline. Richard and Rebecca have their own scenario in the Spencer Mansion. Rebecca and Billy have their scenarios from 0 too. Jill and Carlos tag team in the 3 scenario. Wesker and Hunk are solo in their respective scenarios, but that makes sense given their situation. The same applies to Leon and Claire in RE2 scenario, Claire and Steve in CV scenario, and Leon and Krauser get their own co-op scenario that takes place before RE4 in DC. I know they're rail shooters , but I highly doubt would be revisiting any of these again just for 3rd person co-op. Also, the gameplay in Darkside Chronicles is ass, because of the abundance of shaky cam and calling it "fair" difficulty according to Capcom.

I personally don't recall those games being as big, or as instantly popular and widely dispersed like BL 2. Granted, I think a lot of those titles were Nintendo titles?
  • Viewtiful Joe - Gamecube and later ported to PS2. The sequel released on both consoles simultaneously.
  • Killer 7 - GC & PS2. Later got a Steam release last year.
  • Jet Set Radio - Sega Dreamcast and the sequel on og XBOX.
  • Mad World - Wii only.
  • No More Heroes - Wii, Switch, and PS3 (first game only. The HD port is a worse quality than the Wii or Switch)
  • Okami - PS2, then later on Wii. Got ported a couple years ago to PS4, XBONE, Switch, and PC.
  • Sly Cooper - Exclusively on PS2. Got HD ports on PS3.
  • Prince of Persia (2008) - 360/PS3/PC. People loved the art style, but many did not like the fact that the game became too easy.
  • Cel Damage - Released on all 6th generation consoles
  • Red Steel 2 - Wii only
  • Gungrave & Gungrave Overdose - Both exclusive to PS2. VR is a PSVR exclusive and the upcoming Gore is going to be on PS4 and most likely PS5
  • LoZ: Wind Waker - GC and Wii U
And I don't recall people losing their shit about them like they did with BL2.
They did, you just locked yourself out of the loop. Sly Cooper, No More Heroes, VJ, and Okami all got a lot of hype. People still talk about them for a reason. And it was more than just the art style, but definitely a huge factor not to be disregarded.

Like I mentioned before, BL2 (and the series as a whole) does not even use cel-shading. Some game(s) or series are niche properties, but they are still popular for a reason and have gotten modern ports or still have sequels. These games had a huge hand in pioneering cel-shading to the gaming world. Especially if we're talking about VJ, Sly Cooper, or Okami.

Yeah, Windwaker, Okami, and No More Heroes in particular were pretty huge and recognizable.

Hell, Viewtiful Joe got a Saturday morning cartoon on Cartoon Network and Kids WB. That's more than Borderlands will ever get.

Being brown and grey does not mean its visually bad.

Gears of War for example is not meant to be a colorful rainbow game.

Its a Grimdark, Post-Apocalyptic War for fuck's sake.

Too bad it looks like shit nowadays, even with the Remaster version. It still does not excuse the 200 dozen games that decided to copy Gears wholesale, regardless if it took place in a apocalyptic scenario or not. Adding in brown and grey where the setting made little to no sense. That is not Gears exact fault, but it was a huge problem in the 7th generation. I'll give the Gears sequels credit for adding color. Mainly 3. Even then there are brown and grey games more pleasing to look at than Gears. Many of them from the 6th generation: RE4, DMC3 (there is color, but it's subdued in a lot of places), Shadow of the Colossus, and Twilight Princess. It's helps that they have unique and distinct art styles. The Mad Max films 2 and after take pace after a nuclear war, yet they got more color than all of the X360 Gears games combined.

  • Killer Instinct (2013) is the best fighting game of generation 8. No exceptions or substitutes. Also, the best modern Darkstalkers game ever made. Capcom should bring some of the Darkstalkers cast as guest characters.
  • I don't find the South Park rpg games appealing; especially now that I don't even bother watching the show anymore.
  • Wild 9 should have gotten a sequel and is the best 3D Earthworm Jim game ever made. The closest we got was Mad World and Bulletstorm.
  • Ninja Gaiden 4 should have a new protagonist, if KT/Team Ninja even bothers to make it.
  • Samurai Showdown (2019) is the best old school style fighting game, and the best SamSho game.

Post-apocalyptic, yes. Grimdark? No.

Yes. It's called making fun yourself and having fun. I find that hilarious and found Epic did nothing wrong in this regard.
I'm not sure this is being "self-aware" and "having fun."

This feels more like Epic looking at Fortnight and going "If we turn Gears into Fortnight we can get the Fortnight money into Gears."

Idk, Gears 1 was pretty Grimdark.
Even if Gears 1 was grimdark (which is debatable), that's still one game out of 8. The IP as a whole definitely isn't.

I define grimdark as a setting where things are bad, stay bad, and will always be bad. 40K is an example of this, because it fits the criteria. Gears doesn't - things explicitly get better after Gears 3, and we've never reached the level of desparation seen in Gears 1/2. The actual period of Locust stuff is a blip in Sera's history, whereas in 40K, things have been "grimdark" for 10,000 years.

They knew what they were doing either way. I laughed so hard. My brother has Gears 5, so I going to find out later if he's got this update. If so, I might play a couple matches for the hilarity.

If you're there, try Escape - it's Gears 5's best mode IMO.

Grimderp is dead, and thank God for that.

Saints Row 4 was my favoritie in the series cause it was apex of them just adding insanity and embracing it. Even if it made cares obsolete it is my favorite GTA clone and I love more than any game in the GTA series.

Cover System gets way too much flack then it deserves.

Especially since the games I played with it worked with what they are trying to do with it.

The problem is not most of them working improperly. The problem is that they stuck around way too long and didn't bring much new to the gaming sphere. That is the major issue at heart, and that so many publishers or devs were trying to get the COD/Gears money and many failed taking unnecessary risks. With most of them learning nothing.
