Michel Ancel Says Beyond Good & Evil 2 is at "Day Zero of Development"

I feel like the constant cult-like prayer for a sequel is some kind of lament to redeem the first game. If only the sequel would get made, it would prove the first was good by having huge sales. But if BG&E were a good game, it would be a good game. What's the sociological term to describe...

your game of the year so far

Well it's early in the year and there's 8 more months of releases so how could we possibly make this call yet? Still... Nioh - Fun and fresh but fizzled out and got boring halfway through. May not even finish it Zelda BOTW - Same as above except I forced my way through it. Probably will...

    Nier: Automata Impressions

The first Nier was an intentional genre-salad, with action RPG, shooter, and even survival horror. This game has much better combat and more interesting character customization, so compared to the original I'm liking it more. Also I dig the music. But I'm not far enough to talk about the story.

Darkest Dungeon to Add New Game Mode with Shorter Completion Time

It's a terrible game. Way too long, way too much grinding, too simplistic, too repetitive.

Doctor Strange Surpasses Iron Man at Box Office

Well I wasn't that into it but I'm glad it's doing well. At this point you want all Marvel movies to succeed so that there will continue to be more Marvel movies.

What Do You Like About RPG?

This is historical revisionism. RPGs have never been story-focused games. Games like Ultima, Wizardry, and Might and Magic were not about story. RPGs were a digital offshoot of tabletop D&D, which was a dungeon crawling simulator, not a storytelling game. Stories in RPGs were incidental to the...

What Do You Like About RPG?

I enjoy killing things, taking their stuff, and leveling up. The story is important too, but only in the context of providing goals and challenges. Without something to strive for, the killing and leveling feels hollow. Super deep, compelling narratives are nice but I've played so many RPGs...

EA Puts Mirror's Edge, The Saboteur, and Spore on GOG with No DRM

The saboteur? I forgot about that game. I may have to check that out.

    Starbound Release Date Finally Set

What started out as a sandbox space adventure turned into a linear quest grind with scripted missions and level caps. The sandbox element was pushed into being a mere framework while content was turned into a repetitive gear treadmill. Terraria succeeded because all the activities and mechanics...

What We Want from Red Dead Redemption 2

RDR still has one of the best endings ever. It's hard to see how to follow that, but a prequel could work. It's also nice to see one of Rockstar's open world games as a contrast to Ubisoft's Ubiquitous Checklist Of Repetitive Tasks games.

These Films Should Have Won "Best Picture," Rotten Tomatoes Says

It's not accurate to proclaim movie critic opinions to be the "true" measure of a film's quality; for that you would have to check ticket sales, but then a Transformers movie would probably win and we can't have that. Critics are infamous for picking unwatchable stinkers and--in recent...

Get Paid For Your D&D Campaign - The Open Gaming License Is Back

3E saved D&D from bankruptcy and death, 4th edition split the fanbase and hemorrhaged players. 5th edition and the OGL are an attempt to stop the bleeding, but it's way too late. The entire point of 4E was to get away from the OGL. WotC (and Hasbro) began to see the 3rd party content as lost...

Zero Punctuation: Top 5 Games of 2015

Undertale is basically the "Oscar-bait" of videogames. Like Gone Home, It's main selling point isn't the gameplay or content, it's the ability to look down your nose at anyone who didn't like it. You easily spot these games by how insufferably smug their fans are.

George Lucas Says He Sold Star Wars to "White Slavers" - Update

What the hell? George Lucas literally sold out and now he has the gall to lecture other people on their artistic integrity? He has four billion reasons to shut his mouth.
