    It might be Dungeons and Dragons: Shadows over Mystara. It definitely has branching paths, 4 players, upgradable weapons and a black dragon boss. As for the other features, i can't remember.

    It's almost certainly ICO. EDIT: Looks like issue 49 of OPS2 magazine (October 2001) is the only issue to contain a playable ICO on the demo disk. Also included are Spyhunter and Gauntlet: Dark legacy, which fit your description of the racing and action games respectively.
