Honestly, I'm amazed Michael Atkinson let you have it.
The Game Ratings board let them have it. Michael Atkinson tried to appeal their decision and take it away from them.
TBH, all Australians who wants the 'banned' games can have them quite easily, thanks to ebay, steam and the like. Michael Atkinson's lonesome crusade against gamers is perhaps not the very definition of, but clearly a Pyhrric victory.

You know what'd be good? If they weren't just banning, but were actively stopping the hacks that were already being used.

There's an idea.
Who's to say they aren't?

Doesn't TF2 run off the same system? I've only once seen a hacker in that game, so maybe VAC is currently being updated to deal with the initial wave of hacking in COD?

I don't get Cheating... truly I don't, not on a game like COD... were's the gain, ho your top on the leader board go you, you have no skill you just hacked it. Playing games online is a test of skill.
Griefing other players. Making them feel like shit. Ruining their enjoyment. Getting your rocks off to their impotent screams of rage as they yell at you for being a dickless shitbag cheating not-nice person.

It's not as if griefing in games is anything new. I would've thought people would understand what goes through their minds by now.
Just seems a little much just to be a prick. Surely these people have better things to do with there lives then cheat on a online game, it's not as if it's a victimless crime and unless you get off on having people think your a utter dick head there no real reward in it.
Trust me, some people are just that sad.

Scrooge is an English name, McDuck being Scottish yet he is American. Weird.

If Atkinson's hissy fit over MW2 does go through it will be yanked from the shelves, don't think they could do too much about the copies that are already bought, but if the Great Firewall of Australia does indeed go up then Steam will most likely be blocked in Australia.

I still have yet to come across an aimbotter or wallhacker. And I've played at least 36 hours worth. Guess I'm lucky or most of the hackers are in the US. Aus ftw?
Aus ftw no matter what mate.
Honestly, I'm amazed Michael Atkinson let you have it. And Australia FTW when censorship allows games through.
I was gonna say something similar... Like "How's all the gore in L4D2, I heard it was brutal"...
Of course, Aus does have Kangaroos... So it's cool... Oh, and like the top 10 deadliest snakes... That's awesome enough...

Why not say so, if they are?

Steam is region-locked. If MW2 gets banned in Australia, fairly certain that Steam has to stop selling it as well.

Dunno how they deal with copies that've already been bought.

Why would they/why should they have to say that? I mean, it's fairly obvious that they'd try to cut off the problem at its root (the hacks) instead of just re-banning those that use them over and over again.

To perhaps reassure the few PC Gamers who did buy it for that platform that they didn't make the wrong decision? One need only look at this thread to see that most people see 2,500 as a great big fuck all. Hearing a "And we're working on fixing the issues permanently." couldn't exactly be bad press.

While it's obvious to you and me, that they haven't said anything about it means that whether it's obvious to them as well is still up in the air in the realm of Maybe's and Perhap's.

It amuses me when people who sign a contract, then break that contract, complain when the holder of the contract does exactly what the contract stipulates they will do in the situation of someone breaking said contract.

Guess what, if you break the rules you get punished. Arguing about whether or not the rules are fair is like getting arrested for possession and telling the Judge you shouldn't be punished because "weed should totally be legal anyway, man!"

I have had the previlege yo meet some of these hackers, and they arent
very careful to show it either.

(Funny thing, i even saw my friend get killed in a screen shot.
by a cheater) :p

2.500 can seem like a low number, and probably is to.
But then on the other hand the working hacks that are out is
monthly paid for, so dont think to many are cheating. So the 2.500
number can be kidna good.

Wonder if this will only be the tip of an iceberg they are showing us here...I have a feeling those numbers will rise eventually...

But, I do agree with above. They need to invest more time/money into actually preventing the hacks been used rather than just riding the users of the hacks. Seems like bad practice to me.

Its like stopping the prisoners from escaping through a hole in the wall but leaving the hole there for all to see!

lol this is what happens when you don't give the server admins...o wait nevermind there are no server admins in this game. Maybe now ppl might realize y dedicated servers, with MODERATORS/ADMINSTRATORS on PC is a GOOD and NEEDED thing. lucky Aimbots/Wallhacks aren't so prevalent on the consoles.

Glad I held off on the PC version XD
Waiting on my console mouse controller, then picking it up for me console \o/

on another note, 2500 bans is a terribly small number XD they are so fail. Marketing geniuses but still fail :p

I've seen a few cheaters here and there in CSS and TF2 but as my community has a rather large band of admins they mostly only operate for 10-20 minutes before getting perma banned. VAC waits forever before slapping a ban, so it's good we can police it ourselves. It's silly to be dependend on VAC to keep the games clean.
And that's not even mentioning banning for racism and rudeness.

Though I suppose that this goes to the center of the whole debate about dedicated servers.

Now this banning thing would work infinitively better if there were dedicated servers. Current games using dedi would be the proof. So when will we be seeing dedicated servers? AND mods? Well at least Activ/IW got to sell 2500 new copies of MW2.

If there were dedicated servers with admins those guys would have been banned long ago. True story.
