Most DLC is overpriced for the content you get. Here's some of the dumbest DLC I've seen:

6 new gun skins 6.99!
5 new multiplayer maps 14.99.
New story arc 15.99 (for like 2 hours of gameplay?...)
New playable character 5.99

That's MENTAL
5.99 is 1/10th the price of a new game for a character (or just a skin change), 5 multiplayer maps for 15? That's 1/4th the price of the game in question!! Most games are overpriced to begin with when it's 5 hours of game for 60 bucks but then there's this lackluster DLC with a pricetag comparable to the game cost. Why bother?
Unfortunately, this is what the market will currently bear, so it will continue.

I think I sit with that 32% who think that $60 is already enough for one game.

I don't buy DLC unless it's for a game I absolutely love(Mass Effect 2 for example).

I hate how a lot of publishers abuse the system. I'm looking at you Konami... charging for characters in Harmony of Despair, when you promised they would be unlockable in game. That alone put me off from buying the game.

I like the fact that "only online multiplayer" and "only single player" are back to back.

I think the lack of demos/reviews and the pricing are probably the best reasons to skip DLC. Probably privacy, too, but did they mean privacy in terms of "giving your details out to Ex Blah or PSN?"

I smiled at complicated storefront. I don't want to run around telling people they're wrong, but REALLY?
Yeah really, the only game I have purchased DLC for was Dragon Age: Origins. The actual buying part was easy, but getting it installed was a lot more difficult. First the game had to recognize that I purchased the DLC, which it's own servers had a problem with. THEN, the game had to decide to download the DLC and install automatically, it did not seem to allow me to do it manually, which just irked me, because I wanted to have it all installed before I even played the first area of the game. Some of these problems were technical in nature, and strictly on their side, but still made setting up the DLC difficult, and to a non experienced user, I could easily see them viewing it as "complicated"

I've bought all the Reach DLC map packs although I can't even properly play them. I've also bought every Castle Crashers DLC. The latter is more worth it in my opinion.

it didn't mention people like me, who's parents won't allow consoles to be hooked up online for fear that they'll get computer viruses. I'm probably just in too small of a minority to register on the study, but still, thats just one more thing preventing DLC
I may be allowed to connect but I don't like the idea of depending on the net to be able to play games so I don't often hook mine up so I am in the same boat but for a different reason

49%? That be crazy!

You know what this calls for?

[HEADING=1]MOAR DLC![/HEADING] /sarcasm

Seriously, not everyone needs to purchase DLC in order to enjoy their games. The only game I have really spent money on, regarding DLC, was Red Dead Redemption. For good reasons, of course.

DLC is overpriced crap 99% of the time. The other 1% is shit that should have been included with the game and some clown decided to rip it out and sell it separately to moronic free spenders who can't understand they are being ripped off, taken advantage of, and helping to support a terrible system.

Once again this picture tells the whole story:

Yeah, I don't buy DLC unless I either really like the game or I like the developer.
I refuse to buy any DLC for games like Dragon Age, that game takes 'paying full price for half a game' to the friggin' limits of literalness. Offering us a sidequest in the game then opening up the friggin' purchase screen when we accept and trying to sell single quests to us for half the price of the game is just being a dick.
I've been looking for an excuse to rant about that for a while now.

In an additional survey, EEDAR asked 3500 respondents why they chose not to buy DLC. Their responses:

Privacy: 47 per cent
So, (49%*47%) 24% of respondents - around 1700 were scared about privacy on their consoles. That was their largest worry?

Funny, because you don't hear any of the console game manufacturers looking into that.

In fact, if you read the results from bottom to top, they look like the manufacturers worries from top to bottom.

Perhaps someone needs to turn the list around?

Often, it's because I am not getting enough for my money. Granted, if I loved a game enough, I would be happy to spend a few bucks instead of waiting for a sequel. However, if I pay stuff, I expect to have something well spent.

The mortal sin of DLC is when a developper releases half a game and then he releases the "true" ending in 5 DLCs. I won't pay for laziness.

You know what 51% is? A controlling interest. Yep not going to see the end of DLC anytime soon.

For the record my opinion doesn't count here because I don't have a console, however, I'll tend to buy DLC that expands the single player story and avoid equipment/map packs. Of course if my will holds out I'll buy the GOTY when I can. Sometimes I'll even pick up the GOTY for less than the few DLC packs I'm interested in, I've done that for Fallout 3, Dragon Age: Origins and I'll wait until the New Vegas GOTY edition before I buy any DLC for it, and I already own New Vegas.

As well a the seeking suspicion that most DLC is stuff that could have been in the game, my main problem with DLC is there is not much competition or downward pressure on pricing.

A lot of DLC is only available direct from the publisher through their software distribution platform. They tend to keep pricing the same as at launch. I expect to buy a game 6 months after launch new for less that the price it launched at, due to competition from different sellers driving down price. This does not seem to happen as much with DLC. So not only is it expensive at launch, it also is a long time after launch as well....

I am curious what they took as buying DLC to be 51%. If it also were to say include DLC pre-order people get for free but can be bought by others or game that comes with free DLC code in box then this 51% is skewed. I noticed this year I have gotten a couple games with free DLC codes so if that means I get added to 51% then that makes whole thing just skewed out of proportion.

You think the DLC is bad now? Wait until FF13-2.

I no longer buy DLC because now it's just ways to get your money and excuse their laziness. Deus Ex Human Revolution's new DLC says it all. Bioware is just as bad at the money-grabbing DLC making.

I don't even know what privacy means on your thing... that they have no possible way to get it? Or that the DLC in question is multi player functionality?

Not a fan of dlc. Most of the time due to it coming out when I have become bored with the game. Plus a lot of DLC is nothing special really.

They specify "purchased."

I tend not to buy DLC because it's outrageously over priced for what you get. $5 for costumes? costumes!?
I have downloaded a ton of games off of psn though.
